  1. Try googling downtown Cleveland hotels....should be a map there.
  2. I have stayed there 3 times, the last time about 3 years ago and have always had a great time. This resort is actually 2 or 3 hotels that were remodeled and then "hooked" together by common paths and landscaping. There is an adult only pool and pools for families. The staff has always been most helpful. I would suggest buying an Entertainment Book for the area....a lot of buy one get one free meals, attractions etc.I haven't looked at this year's issue, but in past years it had coupons for the restaurants in the TWG and close by. I think they are 1/2 price right now, about $10.00.
  3. I would agree. There are only 2 hotels downtown with pools other than the Embassy Suites which would have a "S" icon and the 4* Renessaince(which never lists a pool). The hotels are the Wyndham at Playhouse Square and the Hilton Garden Inn both being 3*. The Doubletree is the old Holiday Inn Lakeside, but has been totally remodeled....we stayed there this past winter and it was really nice.Hope this helps.
  4. Last time I checked this area, the only 4* hotels are the Tradewinds Grand and the Don Cesar(the locals call it the"Pink Hotel"). The Don hardly ever comes up. Next time you bid,if unsuccessful, add other areas along that same area with your free re-bids one at a time and slowly raise you price each time......Clearwater Beach,Dunedin,Clearwater,Palm Harbour etc. These two are the only 4* reported in this whole area,so each time you bid,Priceline not only scans the new area but also St. Pete Beach again as well with your higher price. I have used this strategy 3 times and worked every time to get the TWG Resort. Check the hotel lists provided on these boards to make sure no other 4* have popped up,but I'm pretty confident that there are no new ones. Good luck!
  5. One night for the Browns vs Lions pre-season game. Started at $42.00 for 3.5*,rejected. Added 3* and raised price to $48.00 with free re-bid and accepted....Crown Plaza. Great hotel in a great location...near Cleveland Browns Stadium. As always, used PRICELINE link provided.
  6. I have used Hertz via PRICELINE twice at Orlando and have had great service both times. The cars were almost new and both check in and out was a breeze.
  7. Also, as always, used the PRICELINE link provided, encourage all to do so and to report their findings. This helps all tremendously to save money!
  8. One night June 6th. Started at $65.00,added Kissimmee(no resorts listed),raised price to $70.00,added Orlando east(no resorts),raised price to $76.00 and finally added Universal/Seaworld(one resort listed JW Marriott) raised price to $80.00 and bingo! Omni Resort at ChampionsGate, which is one of the ones that I wanted! $98.30 with all taxes and fees. Lowest price on website was $179.00 plus tax, almost 60% off!
  9. June 6th One night. Amenities are: Resort, studio, 24 desk, laundry, free parking, kitchenette, spa, tennis nearby, condo, children's activities, pool(s) and fitness center. Not listed on hotel list or VP. Any thoughts?
  10. I received an email alert from HOTWIRE stating that prices have dropped. Checked them and they did indeed drop to $14.95 a day for mid size....$181.00 total with all fees.Decided to give PRICELINE a try (used link here) at $11.00 per day midsize and low and behold,it was accepted by Hertz! $159.00 for 8 days with all fees. I could have upgraded to full size for $3.00 per day,but really don't need a full size. Looks like the summer market has finally broke loose!
  11. Started at $39.00 and have slowly added every day until I hit at $50.00....$65.00 with taxes and fees. Holiday Inn Express Downtown. I have stayed here once before and thought it was at least a 3*(the room was much nicer than the 4* Renessaince Downtown)! Housed in a old Bank Building, the room was huge and just wonderful, plus the free breakfast was the best that I have ever had..hot items such as bacon, sausage, etc.I used this strategy lately for a Cleveland Cavaliers game and was upgraded to a 3* at the Doubletree Lakeshore(recently remodeled....used to be a Holiday Inn) for $42.00 plus fees and was kinda hoping that I would get it for this stay(Cleveland Browns pre-season game). But I must say that I'm not disappointed. Go Cavs and Browns!!!!
  12. When I researched this area, the only 4* in St Pete Beach are the Tradewinds Grand Resort and the Don Cesar Hotel. I would bet it is the TWG since the Don Cesar rarely comes up. We've stayed at the TWG 3 times and really enjoyed it.
  13. One night 06/06/09 Amenities: Resort,Suite,Fitness Center,Pool,Restaurant,Laundry,High Speed Internet,Golf Nearby, and Tennis Nearby. Hyatt Grand Cypress???? Also, are the Hyatt Grand Cypress, the Hyatt Grand Cypress Villas, and the Villas of Grand Cypress all in the same complex and if so what are the differences? Just looking for one last day at the end of our vacation before we fly out the next day and want a really nice pool area. Any suggestions? Thanks!
  14. I ended up going back to PRICELINE and bid $42.00(downtown) for a 2 1/2* which was accepted and upgraded to a 3*,the Doubletree Suites Lakeside. This is the old Holiday Inn Lakeside, near the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.I understand it has been completely remodeled,so will see what it is like. I was hoping to get one of the 2 1/2 star hotels because the ones I have stayed at downtown are truly like a 3* or better ,have complementary breakfast, and are closer to Quicken Loan Arena.
  15. Did a little investgating.....could this be the Residence Inn Beechwood? It seems to me I booked a hotel with similiar amenities a couple of years ago with a S symbol and it turned out to be a Residence Inn. Not sure I agree that they are considered a "Suites" hotel, but their website matchs up with the ameneties. I probably will try downtown instead(Cleveland Cavaliers game)....I was hoping this might be the Embassy Suites,in which case I would have tried to stay here! As always, I will use the links provided here!
  16. I did as instructed....these are the only amenities: It's now listed at $53.00!!!! 3-star hotel in Beachwood - Mayfield Heights This hotel features the following amenities: Suite Complimentary Breakfast Fitness Center Pool(s) Business Center Laundry Facilities High-speed Internet Access
  17. Need help ID'ing this hotel.... Suite, All guest rooms smoke free, free breakfast, fitness, pool, business center, laundry, hi speed internet. 1 night 04/08/09. Only suites on the hotel list is Extended stay america, but its a 2* and nowhere near this many icons. Listed at $67.00 night
  18. Just cancelled my reservation with Payless and rebooked with them because the rate dropped! $97.00 week for a midsize, plus $16.00 extra day,-$5.67 for being a Perks member = $107.33 for 8 days before taxes/fees. That is $13.42 per day before fees......total is $162.00 for 8 days. With PRICELINE's higher fees,I don't think it will get much less expensive than this, but I will keep all posted!
  19. trukyram-Payless is back to the cheaper price on midsize as of 5:45PM EDT on 3/10/09. A 4 day rental(5/30 to 06/02) was $74.60 with all fees. Just thought I'd let you know.
  20. Finally hit this one at $60.00 plus fees/taxes(78.00) after trying for quite a few years. We come to Cleveland for sporting events and occasionally stay overnight. Here's my two cents worth....... The GOOD- hotel is very nice in the public areas. It has that grand old hotel feel. The staff was friendly and cheerful. The beds were quite comfortable. The hotel is connected to the Terminal tower with all its restaurants, shopping and Skywalk to the Quicken Loan arena(no need to step outdoors)and has a nice indoor pool/atrium on the 5th floor. The BAD- the room(508) was really small...we had two beds, one of which was right up against the older type heat/a/c unit...you couldn't get out of that side of the bed.The room was just overall a little tacky(bathroom tile been fixed and repaired, grout not matching, etc.) I would expect this from a 1 or 2*,but not from a 4* Renaissance. Parking in the hotel garage is a hefty $23.00,but the outdoor lot right next to the garage was only $10.00 for the whole weekend. The WORST- the afore mentioned heat/A/C unit was terrible. It had an access door missing and a toggle switch that gave you a choice of run or auto.It also had a round switch that rotated but didn't seem to do a thing. It got quite hot during the middle of the night and I had to crawl across my son to even get to it! I finally turned the whole damn thing off and it cooled down a bit due to a temperature drop outside. I have stayed at the Hyatt at the Arcade on numerous occasions, along with the Holiday Inn Express Downtown(housed in an old redone bank building) and others and would take them over the Renaissance every time.Granted I have only stayed there this one time and in this one room, but first impressions.....!! I also am a Marriott Rewards member and plan on passing this message on to them.
  21. The price on Payless is now $279.00 for the same rental!!!! When I did book it, I joined their Perks Program(free) and it knocked off a little....like $8-10.00 for the 8 days. I too thought that the economy would have an impact, but not so far. I am in the car business(26 years) and we have been told the rental car companies have put fewer cars into service than normal due to the economy,so maybe that has an impact.....supply vs demand.
  22. I took your advice and reserved the car at Payless(have used them in the past and have had no problems) at 212.00 total for the 8 days(midsize).I noticed last night that they lowered their rate to 185.00 total so I cancelled the first one and booked the lower rate. Even if I can get the $12.00 a day through Priceline eventually,it still will be around $176.00 total with all their fees, but I will continue to watch both HOTWIRE and PRICELINE and report back my results.
  23. Looked back at my bid on Priceline from 2008...the taxes and fees were $46.92 on my full size rental @12.00 day....this year it would be $80.94 on athe same $12.00 day bid for the same 8 day rental! Anyone know why the increase of $34.00?
