  1. More often than not you will receive a discounted rate, but there have been times where people have found advertised rates lower than what they received on HOTWIRE. In those cases I would recommend using HOTWIRE's double the difference guarantee, which is good for up to 48 hours after booking. If you are noticing the hotel's own site has the room for the same price then you might as well just book through the hotel since it is likely cancelable and you would save on the HOTWIRE's fees. The vast majority of the time, HOTWIRE will offer better rates, but it's always good to be educated before you make a purchase. Please use this HOTWIRE link to start your purchase and let the board know the result.
  2. Thanks for posting another win! Enjoy your stay.
  3. Congratulations on your win and thanks for sharing it with the board. Enjoy your stay! Is it just for the one night?
  4. HOTWIRE lists the tripadvisor traveler review rating for this hotel as 4/5 based on 680+ reviews. Referencing tripadvisor directly I see that the New York Helmsley fits this rating. That would be my best guess. Help support this site by using this HOTWIRE link to start your purchase and report back to the board. It could be a new hotel to add to our list.
  5. Please follow up your last thread Hotwire - NYC Hotels with what you decided to do, then bump this thread and we'll take a look. Thanks.
  6. Congratulations on your win and thanks for posting it to the board! Enjoy your stay.
  7. Welcome to the board riche! Congratulations on your win and thanks for posting. Enjoy your stay.
  8. This one also hasn't been reported to the board, but HOTWIRE does mention the tripadvisor traveler review rating of 4/5 based on 180+ reviews with the last review in March 2009. Referencing tripadvisor directly, there is one hotel that matches this rating, the Grand Hotel Mediterraneo. That would be my best guess. If you plan on reserving, help support this site by using this HOTWIRE link to start your purchase and let the board know the result.
  9. No 5* has been reported to the board for Prague, and HOTWIRE doesn't list a tripadvisor traveler review rating so it's hard to pinpoint which hotel it could be. The distinguishing amenity is the complimentary breakfast, where not all 5* hotels offer this. There are a couple that do, including the Ventana Hotel and Corinthia Hotel. These are a couple possibilities, but it could be another. $129 seems like a pretty good price and I don't think you'll be disappointed with the result, regardless of which hotel it is.

  12. This one looks to be a match to the Westin Grand. That would be my best guess. Help support this site by using this HOTWIRE link to book and post the result to the board.
  13. Congratulations on your win. Thanks for updating the board with all your previous wins. Much appreciated. Was this just a 1 night stay?
  14. Welcome to the board nate-2244! Congratulations on your win and thanks for sharing it with the board. Enjoy your stay.
  15. Congratulations on your win TravelAround_2! Those are the breaks sometimes, with the prices fluctuating. More often than not I've seen the prices increase so it's always good to buy when you are ready. Still a great price for the hotel. Enjoy your stay!
  16. Welcome to the board Chiefvelo! Thanks for sharing your win. Enjoy your stay.

  18. I would suggest your read Don't bid higher for a specific hotel. Generally, it is not recommended to bid higher for one hotel over the other because you are very likely just going to overbid for your stay. Just a couple other comments. Romelle pointed out correctly that you can't pick and choose the hotel you are going to get with PRICELINE. You are equally likely to get a hotel with poor reviews as one with stellar reviews. It's the risk you take in order to snag a great deal. I think it would be unlikely that you would win a hotel within 1 mile of the Eiffel Tower. The Eiffel Tower zone on PRICELINE is quite large and it's furthest point is quite far from the Eiffel Tower. There is a possibility that even if you get a hotel in the Eiffel zone you would have a long walk to the Tower and possibly even need to take the metro. Just to give you a quick reference. I just booked a hotel (not through PRICELINE - a budget 2* for 59Euro) that is very close to the Cambronne metro station, which if you zoom into the little map PRICELINE, is pretty close to the Eiffel Tower. From there it is about a 10-15 minute walk to the Eiffel Tower. That is roughly about a mile away, maybe just slightly less (average person walks at 3 mph). Paris maps are deceiving because they don't convey how large the city actually is. The furthest point of the Eiffel Tower zone is a little over 2 miles from the Eiffel Tower - about a 45 min walk. The great thing about Paris, however, is they have an amazing metro which can take you anywhere you need to be pretty quickly. And even though you might be close to the Eiffel Tower, you'll still need to take the metro to get to the Louvre, or to Notre-Dame...Unless you are up for walking over an hour to get there...and then just as long to get back. You would definitely need to be open to the possibility that you will not get a hotel that is that close to the Eiffel Tower. Is this ok? If not, then PRICELINE may not be the route for you. If you are flexible, PRICELINE is perfect. If you have specific requests, then you may be disappointed with the result. Let us know your thoughts and we'll try and help you find a good place. I just spent the last 1-2 weeks trying to find good budget accommodation in Paris, so I'm pretty familiar with what is out there. I've also visited there before, so if you have any questions, I can try to help as best as I can.
  19. Congratulations on your win scantech! (and thanks for using the link) This is the first Rio De Janeiro PRICELINE win reported to the board. Roughly 50% savings is an excellent deal. Enjoy your stay.
  20. It looks like you may be missing a few amenities. The icons are limited to 8 but there may often times be more. To see the full list click 'continue' on the hotel from the main search results page, then directly under the amenity icons click 'see all amenities'. Post back and we'll try to ID it for you.
  21. I took a quick look at Expedia to get an idea of availability in New Orleans for that weekend, and I have to say, it doesn't look good. Many of the hotels are already sold out and the few remaining hotels are priced well above the usual rates. The Thursday night seems to have fairly decent availability, but Friday - Monday has very little. Based on this, I'm not so sure you are going to be very successful with PRICELINE, but it's definitely worth giving it a shot. It may be a good idea to try and split your stay to possibly increase your chances in getting a hotel. Read this thread for some more info Should I Split My Bid and Splitting Bid and Other Thoughts. Taking a quick look at HOTWIRE, there is a 4* in the French Quarter being offered for $159 for your dates which looks like the Astor Crowne Plaza. There is a 3* being offered for $149. Usually, you can get a better rate through PRICELINE but it's good to check HOTWIRE to get a gauge on what types of discounts the hotels are offering. I think $100 for a 4* may be a little too optimistic for this weekend, even for lower rater hotels. Would you be willing to split your bid? Would you consider a lower rated hotel? What is your absolute maximum bid? A good thing, is that since there are 5 (at last count) re-bid zones for a 4*, you have plenty of re-bidding opportunities to nail down a price.
  22. Welcome to the board Mike B and thanks for sharing your win! Enjoy your trip.
  23. Welcome to the board monroe2020 and thanks for sharing your win! Enjoy your stay.
  24. This one looks to be a match to the Crowne Plaza Hotel. That's my best guess. The amenities also match what has been reported for the Millenium Hotel, but HOTWIRE lists the tripadvisor traveler review rating of 3.5/5 based on 420+ reviews which matches the Crowne Plaza. Please use the site's HOTWIRE link to start your purchase and let the board know the result.
