  1. It looks like you are on the right track and may need to make a few more re-bids before you win a room. For a 4* hotel, there are numerous other re-bid zones that you could use. At my last count there are 9 re-bid zones you could use (this can change at any time). A couple examples: Toronto East (currently a max 2*) or Toronto West (currently a max 3*). Please double check these before you bid as they can change at any time! It may be a good idea to read this topic Priceline Rebidding Explained to fully familiarize yourself with various rebidding strategies. Otherwise I would continue along with your current strategy, adding those extra rebid zones.
  2. So I am looking to book a hotel in Copenhagen for this Saturday and begin my bidding process. There is only one available zone in Copenhagen, with 2*, 3*, and 4* options. My first bid was for a 3*, which got rejected (no surprise there). So I closed the browser, re-opened a new one and re-bid just on the 4* (this trick is a fairly well known way of squeezing another bid) and got rejected again. All things are normal so far, and I should be out of bids at this point. But after the 4* rejection I added the 3* zone and was able to bid yet again! So in essence I bid: 3* (4* automatically included) - rejected 4* - rejected 4* & 3* - rejected I expected to get 2 bids, but getting the third bid was a complete surprise to me since it is technically an exact copy of my first bid. Maybe there is something in the way PRICELINE classifies bids/re-bids where you can skirt around this. In PRICELINE's eyes it could have been: 3* - checked box 4* - checked box 3*/4* - checked boxes All different, yet based on PRICELINE's rules the first and third should be identical and should not have been allowed. Has anyone else experienced this?
  3. This is the last in the series of posts for our 5 nights in Boston 3* Copley Courtyard Tremont and 3.5* Copley Hilton Back Bay. So we split the last 3 days of our stay into a 2+1 thinking that the Monday night (Sept 7th) was the most expensive place. We were hoping that we would end up winning the Hilton again at a higher rate, but knew that there was a good chance of the Sheraton because of the win that was posted for the Tuesday night (8th). Since the hotels are pretty much right across the street from each other we decided to give it a shot and ended up with the Sheraton. Room Cost (avg. per room, per night): $75.00 (USD) Number of Rooms: 1 Number of Nights: 1 Room Subtotal: $75.00 (USD) Taxes and Fees: $17.26 (USD) Total Room Cost: $92.26 (USD) The advanced-purchase rate is $181USD, so we are at about a 50% savings. 3 hotels in 5 nights is a little bit of a pain, but we are pretty certain we got the best deals for the 5 nights. The extra savings is worth switching the hotels. Total cost for 5 nights in Boston = $381.74USD, about $420CAD. Overall, very happy with the results.
  4. This is in addition to my last post 3* Courtyard Tremont - $55, where we booked the first 2 nights of our 5 night stay. We tried booking the next 3 nights 9/5/09-9/8/09 under one bid, and got up to $75 for a with no luck in the Copley Square and the Quincy Market zones. It looked like the Monday night rates were the limiting factor so being as cheap as we are we tried splitting the bid even further rather than upping the bid. Our win is identical to the two others that have been posted for these dates: Room Cost (avg. per room, per night): $66.00 (USD) Number of Rooms: 1 Number of Nights: 2 Room Subtotal: $132.00 (USD) Taxes and Fees: $25.30 (USD) Total Room Cost: $157.30 (USD) The advanced-purchase rate directly from Hilton for these nights is $457USD, so we are at about a 65% savings. Again, used the PRICELINE link.
  5. It could be that there is a convention going on in the city which expect 2500 attendees, on the exact dates of your stay - The Heart Failure Society of America. When conventions are on the inventory is usually reduced a bit because of all the pre-blocked rooms, and other hotels may compensate for that as well by reducing their inventory on PRICELINE. This can change depending on when the hotels decide to release the inventory. Also, weekday stays are generally more expensive than weekend stays, particularly in the large cities. I'm not sure about the reason for NY, it could be a similar situation.
  6. I'm going to Boston for 5 nights, 9/3/09-9/8/09, and initially bid for the full 5 nights up to $59 in either Copley Square or Quincy Market (using Fenway and North Cambridge as free re-bids). When that didn't work I decided to split the stay and ended up winning the Courtyard Tremont on my first bid for the first 2 nights of my stay. I honestly didn't expect to win it at that price or else I would have tried starting a couple dollars lower, but still a great price. Room Cost (avg. per room, per night): $55.00 (USD) Number of Rooms: 1 Number of Nights: 2 Room Subtotal: $110.00 (USD) Taxes and Fees: $22.18 (USD) Total Room Cost: $132.18 (USD) Works out to about $145-150CAD. Going rate for the hotel on it's site is $179USD+tax, so over 65% savings! The best prices I have seen for any hotel in the area on those dates is $129USD+tax, which is still a saving of 50%. The hotel doesn't get the best reviews, but the location is excellent. And, really, how bad can a Courtyard be? I tried bidding up to $65 for the other 3 nights (9/5/09-9/8/09) with no luck, yet. The prices are probably higher due to the long weekend. Will post my winning bid when it happens. And, yes, I used the PRICELINE link.
  7. The 5* looks to be a match to the Sutton Place Hotel, the 4* DWTN West looks to be the Sheraton Wall Centre, and the 4* DWTN Entertainment looks to be the Delta Suites. There is a very slim chance the DWTN Entertainment could be the Westin, but I think it's highly unlikely. The tripadvisor review rating matches more closely to the Delta.
  8. The Delta Chelsea is roughly a 20-25min walk to the ACC. But is right on the Yonge/University subway line which can get you there faster if need be.
  9. The main train station is right above where it says 'Bavaria' on Bayerstrasse (the 'b' is 'ss'), in City Center South. The Hofbrauhaus is right by Marienplatz a little South West of the 'M' in Munich The location of Oktoberfest is in the open space right next to the #1 in the box that signifies City Center South. This is only really important if you are going during Oktoberfest.
  10. It all depends on how close you want to be to the center. I think you would be okay in either the Magnificent Mile area or North Michigan Avenue - Water Tower. It really isn't that far of a walk from one to the other. The Loop zone is the third best location, but you could end up out of the way depending on which hotel you get. I won the Hyatt Regency in the Loop zone last year on PRICELINE, which is right across the river next to the Mag Mile zone. (Not 100% sure the zone is still the same) As far as which hotel to recommend, really it all comes down to what you want to spend. I am seeing a variety of hotels on HOTWIRE for under $120/night. For example, there is a 3.5* in Mag Mile for $99 with amenities fitness, pool, restaurant, business, and internet, with a tripadvisor rating of 4/5 based on 40+ reviews, which looks to be a match to the Doubletree Hotel Chicago - Mag Mile. I also see a 4* listed at $110/night and a 3* at $115/night for the same zone. The 4* has amenities fitness, restaurant, business, and internet with a tripadvisor rating of 4/5 based on 300+ reviews. This one looks like it could be the Hard Rock Hotel. The 3* for $115 has amenities fitness, business, internet and tripadvisor rating of 3.5/5 based on 240+ reviews. This one looks to be the Inn of Chicago. It really comes down to what you are looking for. Have you thought of going the PRICELINE route? In general, you can usually get a better deal on PRICELINE than on HOTWIRE. But the only difference is that you absolutely have no idea which hotel you are going to get. As for what to do in Chicago. AaronJB might give you a better idea. But definitely check out Navy Pier, Sears (now the Willis?) Tower. Those are obvious. One tip, if you are going to the Hancock Tower, go to the bar on the 96th floor rather than the viewing deck. You don't have to pay an entrance fee for the bar and the view is just as incredible. The money you save on the admission can go towards a drink! Or if you are really cheap, I doubt anyone would notice if you strolled around without getting a drink. Let us know if you have any other questions, either the hotel or the drive (I drove down there for Labour Day last year from Toronto).
  11. There is a 3* hotel on HOTWIRE for $80 which looks like it's either the Holiday Inn Windsor Downtown, or Holiday Inn Select Windsor. Total with taxes is $94, which is a couple bucks more than what your last bid was. This could be an option since PRICELINE isn't working out for you.
  12. I'd suggest you give this thread a read Re-bidding Explained. You should have a better idea of how the bidding/re-bidding process works. For a 3.5* or 4* hotel in Niagara Falls there are currently 3 re-bid zones that you can use. What star rating are you looking for? On HOTWIRE there is a 3* hotel for $47 with amenities, smoke-free, restaurant, fitness, pool, golf, tennis which looks to match The Falls Plaza Hotel. There is also a 3.5* hotel with amenities, smoke-free, restaurant, fitness, pool, business, internet, which looks like it could be the Fallsview Plaza. Yes, although the name are similar, they are two different hotels. Post back if you have any questions.
  13. Prices for these dates were very high, probably a result of something going on in the city as the Hilton Mollino Stucky is sold out for those dates. Bid $120 for a 5* Venice - rejected Added 4* at same bid - rejected Girlfriend's attempt: Bid $135 for a 5* Venice - rejected Added 4* at same bid - rejected Then saw this on HOTWIRE, figured it was either the Golden Tulip or Hotel Plaza, both of which are right across the street from the train station which is a 10min, 1Euro ride into Venice. Amenities: Complimentary breakfast Internet 1 room / 2 nights $79/night $22.60 taxes and fees $180.60 TOTAL. Rack rate is 135Euro/night, which is about a 50% savings. Girlfriend booked the hotel, so I don't think it was done through the links, unfortunately. Although it's a new hotel to add to the list.
  14. Congratulations on your win and thanks for sharing it with the board! Glad to see you are happy with the result. Enjoy your stay. (Thanks for using the PRICELINE link)
  15. Just to clarify, this site definitely doesn't have all the hotels listed. Some cities are more comprehensive than others, but by no means does it have all the answers. Generally the same hotels tend to pop up on the board, but new ones are added all the time. The hotel I guessed just seemed to fit what we had seen before. Looking forward to seeing the result.
  16. Welcome to the board laurenashley321! This one looks to be a match to the Hilton St. Charles Avenue. That would be my best guess. If you plan on reserving, help support this site by using this HOTWIRE link to start your purchase and let the board know the result.
  17. Welcome to the board akp134! Congratulations on your win and thanks for sharing it with the board. Enjoy your stay.
  18. Congratulations on you win and thanks for sharing it with the board! Well done in rejecting the counter-offer and bidding below it to get a better rate. Enjoy your stay.
  19. Welcome to the board Peregrina! Congratulations on your win and thanks for sharing it with the board. Enjoy your stay. (Thanks for using the PRICELINE link)

Welcome to the board Puchica! Airfare deals are not posted as frequently to the board so there is no history on this flight. Is there any specific information you are looking for? Do you need information on how to go about bidding?
  21. This one looks like it could be the Hyatt Place Scottsdale. That would be my best guess. The amenity combination is a little different than what has previously been reported for this hotel, but it does match, and the tripadvisor traveler review rating matches as well. You may be able to get a better rate through PRICELINE but you would have no idea as to which hotel you are going to get, so you could end up being far from where you want to be. Please use this HOTWIRE link to start your purchase and let the board know the result.
  22. Welcome to the board JakePark! Congratulations on your win and thanks for sharing it with the board. Is this just for 1 night? Enjoy your stay.
  23. Congratulations on your win and thanks for sharing it with the board! 50% savings is a great deal. Enjoy your stay.
  24. Welcome to the board dnaf! Can you please list the dates of your stay and the amenities that were associated with this hotel? Enjoy your stay.
  25. When you reference the 'packages' section of HOTWIRE you are looking to match the complete set of amenities that are listed for a particular hotel with the amenities listed in the regular 'hotel search' section at the same star rating. Since the 'packages' section is not separated into zones, if you do find a hotel that matches star ratings and amenities you then have to reference it on a map to make sure it will fall into the right zone. Generally the amenities listed on the 'packages' are the same as on the 'hotel search', but they may be different. However, I'd agree with you that this looks to be the Embassy Suites LAX South. Please use this HOTWIRE link to start your purchase and let the board know the result.
