  1. I decieded that Cape May was preferable than getting a cheap hotel in Ocean City. I also raised my max price. Tried Cape May/Wildwood 3.5*-$89 REJECTED Added Vineland/Millville 3.5-$99 REJECTED Added Atlantic City West 3.5- $109 REJECTED Added Somers Point 3.5-$119 Rejected Counter Offer add $22 for $141- I rejected Started over Changed Date to 6/15-6/16 $129 REJECTED add Vineland/Millville $139 ACCEPTED Cape May/Wildwood 3.5* Congress Hall 251 Beach Avenue Cape May, NJ 08204 609-884-8421 Check-In: Monday, June 15, 2009-03:00 PM Check-Out: Tuesday, June 16, 2009-12:00 PM Summary of Charges Room Cost (avg. per room, per night):$139.00 (USD) Number of Rooms:1 Number of Nights:1 Room Subtotal:$139.00 (USD) Taxes and Fees:$30.80 (USD) Total Room Cost:$169.80 (USD) Sucessful in adding a night (6/14) New Stay 6/14-6/16 I got a little over excited and bid out of what I wanted to spend but I don't think I could have gotten it for less than $135 being that $129 was rejected. Saved in the neighborhood of $75-80 for the stay and I got the hotel I wanted so I guess it all worked out.
  2. Looking for a hotel within some reasonable distance from Cape May from 6/14 for 2 nights (6/16) Thinking either Cape May/Wildwood zone at 3 1/2 * or Ocean City/Somers point at 3* Cape May- Max $89 Congress Hall Travelocity: $189.00 Expedia: 219.00 Virginia Hotel (marked Expedia 4 star) Expedia: 209.00 Travelocity: 209.00 Albert Stevens Inn (3 Stars) Expedia: $160 Candlelight Inn/B&B (3 Stars) Expedia $175 Holly Beach Hotel B&B (3 Stars) Expedia $105 Ocean City/Somers Point, NJ $59 max Residence Inn-Somers Point Expedia $159 Travelocity $159 Orbitz-$159 only 3* I could find
  3. I read somewhere that Priceline has one-way name your own price rentals but I can't find the link. My parents are going away to Phoenix, the Grand Caynon and Las Vegas for 2 weeks in November and I wanted to see if I could help them out.
  4. I guess Thereuare has been busy because he didn't reply last night or today, so I bid anyway on my own. I went for my limit with my bids because of the hotwire pricing and the recent bids won for around my time that were high and a few of the hotels were sold out a couple of night during my stay. $75 2.5* Rutherford REJECTED closed IE $80 2.5* Secaucus-North Bergen REJECTED added Rutherford zone and upped to $85 rejected I decieded to check out the retail rates for my backup zone Edison-Woodbridge Saw that the Hilton Woodbridge was sold out 2 of the 3 nights I wanted and the Sheraton Woodbridge had gone up to $219 a night. Even though I could have gone home every day, I really didn't want to so I started bidding on the Edison-Woodbridge $50 3* Edison-Woodbridge ACCEPTED Sheraton At Woodbridge Place Edison-Woodbridge 515 Route 1 South Iselin, New Jersey 08830 732-634-3600 Check-In Date: Thurs, Oct 25, 2007 Check-In Time: After 03:00 PM Check-Out Date: Sun, Oct 28, 2007 Check-Out Time: 12:00 PM Your Offer Price: $50.00 Number of Rooms: 1 Number of Nights: 3 Subtotal: $150.00 Taxes and Service Fees: $31.71 Total Charges: $181.71 I would have preferred the Meadowlands area but this will do. Its only 5 minutes away from Metropark train station (37 minute ride to Manhattan)
  5. In looking at the prices on HOTWIRE and the recent winning bids on Priceline, it gets me worried that my max bid of $75 is not enough for this time of the year. I guess if necessary I could go up to 80-85 but that would really be stretching my budget so I hope I won't have to do that. I guess the best thing to do is to try up to 75 for a while and go from there. Thanks for all your help Jason
  6. 2.5* Rutherford $60 rejected closed and reaccessed 2.5* Secaucus $60 rejected add Rutherford $65 rejected
  7. I've reconsidered and think that I'll take a 2.5* or better to start off with.
  8. I think for now I'm just going to try just Secaucus and Rutherford. Feel more comfortable with my car. If needed will consider Jersey City
  9. I need to stretch my food budget a bit and having a car in Secaucus means that reasonably priced fast food (not the NYC inflated pricing) is an option for breakfast and dinner. Are there options near the reported hotels for a cheap meal? Secondly is my bid high enough to get a 2.5* such as the Courtyard in JC? or is that what your idea is you think it will be more like a free bid because its not high enough but theres always the possibility so you want me to be prepared to stay there?
  10. Lets try 3* up to the limit, then 2.5*. I would only split my bid if my limit wasn't working. Lets forget about splitting for now.
  11. Ok ready to start bidding. I've included an updated price list and I did a little more research it seems like the prices vary during my stay, wondering if splitting the bid might help, so I also put down the prices when they differ. Also for now I want to forget about the edison zone because this would be much better and I have some time before my stay. Newark (Rutherford-Meadowlands) 3 Rennaissance $179 ($152 the night of the 26th) 3 Sheraton Meadowlands 229 (269 25th/189 26th/209 27th) 2.5 Courtyard Lyndhurst 149 Newark (Secaucus-North Bergen) 3 Crowne Plaza Secaucus $145 3 Embassy Suites 234 ($179 night of the 26th & 27th) 3 Holiday Inn Harmon Meadow 162 ($178 25th/153 26th&27th) 2.5 Amerisuites 209 (Sold out 26th/$179 27th) 2.5 Courtyard Secaucus $169 ("Unavailable" 26th & 27th/$219 25th) 2.5 La Quinta Suites 209 (162 25th) MAX BID $75
  12. Don't you hate that, I was looking at hotwire for my trip in Late Oct and I was matching up the hotels based on the list here and noticed that all of the options would only save me like $5 a night. I realize they don't want to give you the lowest rate possible that they can sell it for but that is just rediculous.
  13. Thanks Dahammer, I'm aware of that zone, in fact while I am aware that you can not bid for a certain hotel, it would be great if I got the Courtyard Lyndhurst as they have a bus that runs right across the street and people have won that for $80 (a little high for my budget but who knows how low I can get it). The park and ride your talking about is that the North Bergen Park and Ride or is there another one in the area. If its the North Bergen Park and Ride, have you ever been there? I hear that some parts of North Bergen can be a little shady.
  14. I have a question not related to the price aspect of bidding so I hope you'll entertain it. The Secaucus/North Bergen bidding zone, is not only Secaucus but the Union City/Weehawkin Area. In looking at the hotels there seems to be only 2 in the area, 1 Sheraton Suites and 2. Hojo North Bergen. The Sheraton is probably fine and I would assume in an ok area. The Hojo doesn't appear to be in the Secaucus-North Bergen zone. My question is do you think I've missed any hotels in that area that I could possibly get bidding 2.5* or 3* Just don't want to be stuck in a bad neighborhood so I'm trying to understand what the possibilities are.
  15. Can anyone identify what the 3.5* hotel in the Edison/Woodbridge Zone is? It has Fitness, Pool, Resturant, Business Center, High Speed Internet. And is $59 for 10/25-10/28 It could be one of the Iselin hotels (Sheraton or Hilton Woodbridge) because they are $116 for the night and I've seen a $48 accepted bid on priceline for the Sheraton. Wierd part is a 3* is $76? Whats up with that.
  16. I'll be attending a confrence that runs from 9am to 5-7pm in the City but prices in the city are extremely expensive. I live in Central Jersey so I can take the train in everyday but would rather not. Thinking that the Secaucus area and taking the bus would be a good idea to find something somewhat cheap. Would even consider staying close to the train station in Metro Park (Iselin) to cut about 30 minutes off my commute from home. Not ready to bid just yet but I wanted to get an idea about what seemed reasonable to see if I had a shot Check-in: 10/25/07 Check-out 10/28/07 Here are the rates for the hotels listed for the areas I am considering Newark (Rutherford-Meadowlands) 3 Rennaissance $179 3 Sheraton Meadowlands 229 2.5 Courtyard Lyndhurst 149 Newark (Secaucus-North Bergen) 3 Crowne Plaza Secaucus $145 3 Embassy Suites 234 3 Holiday Inn Harmon Meadow 162 2.5 Amerisuites 209 2.5 Courtyard Secaucus $169 2.5 La Quinta Suites 209 MAX BID here $75 Somerset (Edison/Woodbridge) 3 Hilton Woodbridge 116 3 Sheraton Raritan Center 119 3 Sheraton Woodbridge Center 145 Max bid-$50
