I went over the hotels in Ashland and tried to identify the hotels without a fitness center. Since this hotel does in fact have one, I ruled out the Days Inn as a possibility, and thought this might be the Ramada Ltd. What's worse is that this win presented a situation I've been running into a lot lately - this rate is literally pennies lower than the lowest posted rate, and after I pay hotwire its fees, I am paying more money than if I booked direct. I understand the risk/reward of HOTWIRE, I like their customer service much better than PRICELINE and I'll keep playing the game. But, this time I drew a dud hand.

Star Inflation, thy name is Hotwire. Wish me luck. Several months ago, I booked JetAmerica tickets to Minneapolis. Then, I pricelined my car rental at a rate of $9.00 a day from 9/4 though 9/7, resulting in a total of $51.25. Luckily, this was the only thing I pricelined. I tried calling after they folded last month, but got the same old "our prices are low because we cannot give refunds" script. Since it was only fifty bucks, I was annoyed, but resigned to accept the loss. But still, after reading your response, I'm going to try an email and see what happens.

I've come across people on TripAdvisor who stated this very thing. Comfort Inn was the chain, I believe.

My wife and I were together when I clicked the "book trip" button on the Hotwire page and both exclaimed "on what planet is a Howard Johnson's a three star?!?" This is after attempting to bid $32 for a 2*, but failing, in Bowing Green, Ohio. Priceline usually isn't that great for smaller towns, but I think I did OK here. Note: According to Tripadvisor, there are two Quality Inns at PHL; one that is decent, and one that is awful. Fortunately, I got the one that is decent (Industrial Avenue in Essington). My wife and I ran into this problem back in January. We hotwired a 2* in Mobile, AL, which ended up being a La Quinta. At the time, she had a broken leg and could not climb stairs. We called the hotel three days in advance, who promised us that they would hold a bottom floored room. When we arrived, all bottom floored rooms were occupied - they did not honor their promise. So, the desk clerk and I called Hotwire together. At first, they were not going to refund the money; however, the desk clerk was nice enough to get onto the phone and plead our case. At that point, they agreed to refund our money as a "one time courtesy." However, they have since created a "Hotwire Express" classification for VIP members. Since then, I have received this classification, and I have had no problems working with customer service. So, if you use Hotwire a lot, and have received this classification, you may not have any problems.
