  3. Recently returned from a stay at this hotel. It was our third stay here and the second since it has changed from Doubletree to Radisson. Radisson has definately made some improvements in both the hotel and staff. The room was on the smaller side this time as we had a room with one king bed. In the past, we've had two double beds and those rooms seemed to have a little more space to them. This is our second stay since it became a Radisson and both times we've been given rooms with Sleep Number beds. For me the jury's still out on whether or not I like these beds. In the king bed, it's one control the controls each side individually. If you're on the side without the controller, you'd have to reach across your partner to find the controller to adjust your side of the bed. I found this somewhat inconvenient but, I managed to get the bed adjusted so that I was comfortable enough to sleep without needing to readjust it. If you have a car, there is a charge for parking in the garage. The parking garage can either be accessed by a room key or a credit card. Since it can be accessed by a credit card I assume that the garage has been made available for public parking as well as guest parking. As we arrived later in the evening, we didn't have any problems finding a parking space.
  4. We got this hotel through Hotwire. We found it to be a very nice hotel. It was close to the airport and the shuttle service was fine. There were two restaurants that we found, one rather pricey and the coffee shop, which wasn't bad price wise but maybe a little higher than one expects from a hotel coffee shop. The food and service were both very good. They also had a little coffee shop area that's a must for Seattle with expresso coffee's and pastries. I believe I saw what amounted to a sports bar also but, we were only there one night and I didn't investigate to far. They had two decently equiped fitness rooms but neither had a huge number of machines in them. The machines that were there were pretty good machines. The only pool is an outdoor pool and, as it was the end of the year (August 31st) we elected not to use it that evening. We were assingned a tower room and it was spacious, clean and comfortable. I would have no problems staying at this hotel again in the future.
  5. We just returned from an Alaskan cruise and stayed at the Doubletree Seatac Airport for one night pre-cruise. We found it to be a very nice hotel. It has six buildings and some people have reported issues finding their rooms but we had no such problems. BTW, you got a better price than we did on Hotwire.
  6. The 3 star could easily be the airport Hilton. Some of the downtown hotels offer airport shuttle service but I'm not sure which ones. The downtown Hyatt might fit the bill as well but I'm not certain that they have an airport shuttle.
  7. Radaisson Hotel and Suites Kansas City-City Center 3 stars Restaurant, Pool, Fitness Center, Business Center $46 taxes and fee's $15.73 Total $61.73 We have stayed at this hotel before. Both when it was Doubletree and after changing to Radisson. Radisson had made much needed improvements when we were there last October. It is not our favorite hotel but, for $46 when places like Super 8 were asking for $49 I consider it a very good deal. Especially when the hotel was asking for $130/night by booking direct.

  9. Purchased this for one night pre Alaskan cruise. I needed something near the airport with a restaurant onsite. Previously had booked the Embassy Suites for $169/night but thought Hotwire's 3* rate of $56 sounded to good to pass up. Total cost including all taxes and fee's is $69.96.
  10. We also recently stayed at the HJ in Branson on a Priceline winning bid. As mentioned it is a nice, clean resort with a very good location for the Branson stip (hwy 76). You do have to look for it as the entrance is on the strip but the hotel sits in behind other buildings who's frontage is on the strip and in front of the hotel. We did not eat the free breakfast but did walk around the grounds a bit. There is a decent pool with a hot tub. The rooms are clean and comfortable. Nothing fancy but good size with decent standard hotel beds. For the price it was a very good hotel.
  11. I've posted a review of this stay in the Hotel Review section. This was a very nice hotel and a very nice room. Much nicer than what we've come to expect in America IMO. There are a few quirks about European hotels such as having to insert you room key into a slot by the door to get the electricty to come on in the room. We were very comfortable here and wouldn't hesitate to use Hotwire again for a hotel in Barcelona.
  12. We had booked this hotel through Hotwire for a pre-cruise stay for one night. We arrived close to 10:00 AM but were allowed to check in and occupy our room. This was a very nice, good sized room with all the expected bathroom amenities and then some. Much nicer than what we've come to expect in the states. The hotel is actually located in a suburb of Barcelona but is in a very nice area. We were to tired from our flight to even think about sight seeing. There were plenty of taxi's available in front of the hotel. The hotel provides two dining options. A cafe and a regular restaurant. The restaurant is open for dinner only and does not open until around 8 PM. Europeans seem to have pretty late dinning habits. We ate in the cafe and the food was wonderful. Be aware that an 8 ounce bottle of Coke can be pretty expensive. In the cafe, it was 3 Euro's and there was no free refills. That's about $3.60 for a small bottle of Coke. Based on this experience I wouldn't hesitate to book a room in Barcelona through Hotwire again.
  13. Actually, from you're own hotel listing I knew that Radisson had taken over the downtown Doubletree. That and Hotwire listed it both ways. I also received this E-mail from Hotwire confirming the change from Doubletree to Radisson. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Dear This email is regarding your hotel booking in Kansas City, Hotwire Itinerary Number 6........... We have been informed of a change regarding your upcoming stay at the Doubletree Hotel Kansas City. The hotel has changed their name to Radisson Hotel & Suites Kansas City-City Center. Please be assured that the star rating and amenities are the same. The hotel still holds your reservation and your original Hotwire Itinerary Confirmation with the Doubletree Hotel Kansas City. Please accept our sincere apologies for any inconvenience this may cause you. Our customers are very important to us, and we would like to ensure that you are provided with the best possible experience. If we can be of further assistance, please feel free to reply to this email or contact us directly at 1-866-HOTWIRE (468-9473). Thank you for visiting Hotwire. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- So I'm hoping that the Radisson can make some changes before we stay at this dog again. The last time we were there the rooms were well worn but accaptable for a one night stay. My major issue was there wasn't enough staff working to operate the hotel. I stood at the front desk for a very long time with no one in sight to check in. There wasn't any bell to ring to call anyone either. No staff in the restaurant, no bellman, no valet et.... Essentially, it was almost a self serve motel instead of a 3 star hotel. I've actaully had considerably better service out of 1 and 2 star motels, which is why I'm upset about getting stuck here again. So, I'm hoping Radisson makes some improvements or at least hires enough staff for the hotel to be run properly.
  14. Boy do I feel burnt by this one. Unless Radisson has made some serious changes, I would have been better off paying more for a 2* hotel near the airport. I had checked their package deals and the only two 3.5 star hotels that came up were the Marriot and the Hyatt. Both were accaptable and both had the same amenities, so I bit. We've stayed at this hotel before through a Priceline bid for about the same amount of money. The rooms are decent but well worn. The problem was the staff. There was none. The deck clerk doubled as the valet and the restaurant waiter was doind triple duty as the host, waiter and room service. The saving grace is the cost is only $47 plus fee's and it's only for one night. The bad part is my wife is probably going to hurt me. It's either this or not tell her what I've done and eat the lose. Here are the details from Hotwire. Doubletree Hotel Kansas City 1301 Wyandotte Kansas City, Missouri 64105 (816) 474-6664 Check-in: Wed, Oct 12, 2005 Check-out: Thu, Oct 13, 2005 Adults: 2 Children: 0 View hotel's amenities: Restaurant(s) Pool(s) Fitness Center Business Center 1 room(s) @ $47.00 per night x 1 night(s) $47.00 Taxes and fees: $15.95 Hotel Subtotal $62.95 Total Price $62.95
  15. I certainly hope they do some upgrades to the hotel as well as putting additional staff on. The downtown Doubletree is the reason I won't bid 3 stars for downtown KCMO anymore. We had an old, well worn room and no staff at the front desk or restaurant to respond to our needs. While I could live with the room, waiting several minutes at the front desk to check in, the fact the front desk clerk had to do double duty as the valet and that the only waiter in the restaurant had to do triple duty as the host, waiter and room service really stunk. So here's hoping for a little more staff and room renovations.
  16. Initial bid was $25 three days ago-rejected Rebid after 72 hours for $30-rejected Offered rebid at $38. Research showed the lowest nightly rate was $50.96 so I accepted figuring it was a gimme (previous post showing HoJo for $35/night). Check-In Date: Thursday, July 28, 2005 Check-Out Date: Friday, July 29, 2005 Hotel Name: Howard Johnson Inn Branson 3027 A West Highway 76 Branson, Missouri 65616 417-336-5151 Not the greatest hotel in the world but accaptable for one night. I was glad they didn't put us back at the Econo Lodge, although that hotel was also acceptable for a one night stay.
  17. Yep, that's the correct area. I had to go back and look. I choose the area closest to the airport as that's where we were wanting to stay. It's still a little further out than what we were hoping for but it will do nicely for one night.
  18. Hotel in Sant Just Desvern, Spain Hotel Details: 1 room(s), 1 night(s) Hesperia Sant Just Hotel Frederic Mompou 1 Sant Just Desvern, 08960 Spain Check-in: Fri, Oct 14, 2005 Check-out: Sat, Oct 15, 2005 Adults: 2 Children: 0 View hotel's amenities: Restaurant(s), Fitness Center, High-Speed Internet Access, Business Center 1 room(s) @ $78.00 per night x 1 night(s) $78.00 Taxes and fees: $12.95 Hotel Subtotal $90.95 Total Price $90.95 Some hotels may apply additional charges for incidental fees such as parking. Prices are in $USD I'm not sure how good of a deal this one will really be. It's 8 miles from the airport in a SW suburban area of Barcelona. We are taking a Med cruise that departs from Barcelona and needed a place to sleep the night before embarkation on the cruise. Initially hotel rates were through the roof but have come down over the months we've been looking. Initially, I had booked the BW Alpha Airport directly through Best Western but the price was 89 Euro's, which would have worked out to around $119 plus taxes and fee's. The Hesperia looks to be a much nicer hotel and for a total price of only $90. Reviews on Expedia are generally good, rating the hotel consistantly a 4 out of 5 with one review noting that the bus line stops right in front of the hotel to get around town. Hopefully this will turn out to be a good hotel to get a nights sleep after a long travel day getting from the midwest to Barcelona.
  19. We spent a night at the Kansas City International Airport Marriott for a night before our flight out of town. This is a nice hotel with a great location just off the airport. As of our stay, 3/11/05, the hotel was undergoing major renovations. There was a lot of construction work going on and even the room numbers were just printed on paper and stuck on the doors. The room was well maintained, resonably comfortable bed with standard bathroom amenities EXCEPT that there was no hair dryer. Fortunately, I had packed my own. We arrived late and flew out early the next morning so we did spend time checking out the facilities. Check in was quick and without issue. We were given a room with two queen beds on the fith floor. It was night time when we arrived so I have no idea what the view might have been. We ate dinner in their restaurant. Dinner was very good but it is more of an upscale restaurant with prices to match. I believe dinner for two cost me around $60 or $70 before tip. This was a little disappionting as the purpose of using priceline was to save money. At one point, Marriott had a park and fly program where you could leave you car there and have their shuttle take you to the airport. I inquired about the cost of leaving my car there and was told the airport no longer allowed them to do this. We ended up driving a short distance to The Spot, and off site parking lot that offers covered parking to park our car. All in all this was a good stay and I wouldn't be disappointed if we were to get the Marriott again on a winning bid.
  20. As it was only one night, we did not ask to change rooms. We did write to both Priceline and Hilton. Priceline did not respond in any way to our concern. Hilton did respond but essentially said, "tough, it was a Priceline reservation so you get what we give you. You are only guarenteed a room that will sleep two and that is what you got." I suppose if both the wife and I were in the 120lb range then we would have fit on that bed but, unfortunately we're not. At a minimum I expect at least one queen size bed or two double beds. He did state that they would be remodeling soon and that those rooms would be eleminated. I took that to mean that I'm not the first person to complain about them.
  21. We recently returned from out 1/13/05 stay at the LAX Hilton hotel. We booked this room through Priceline at a rate of $50 for one night. This was a pre-cruise night as we were leaving on Royal Caribbeans Monarch of the Seas for a 3 night cruise to Ensenada Mexico. The Hilton had an effecient airport shuttle that took us from the airport to the Hilton. We had to wait maybe 5 minutes for the shuttle once we picked up our luggage. Shuttle service runs every 15 minutes 24 hours/day. The hotel itself was very nice to look at. Spacious lobby, restaurant to one side of the lobby, lounge on the other side and a convenience store arcross from check in. Check in itself was quick and effecient. The room however took our breath away and I mean this in a BAD way. The room itself was nice enough but it was small and had only ONE DOUBLE bed. This was completely unacceptable accomadations for two adults. It made for such a miserable night as we kept bumping into each other and waking each other up. Airport noise will also be a big problem for anyone who is a light sleeper. The hotel is located at the end of a rather busy runway and LAX has planes taking off and landing very late into the night. The room was not insulated for jet noise at all. For dinner we ordered rooms service which was efficeint and the food was good. We ate breakfast in the restaurant the next morning. It was decent but way overpriced for what we got. I had the buffet, my wife just ordered a slice of bannana bread. We both had coffee. The bill was almost $25 before tip! In the future I will not bid 3* for LAX airport on the chance that I might get stuck in the closet again. I have notified both Priceline and Hilton of my dissatisfaction but haven't heard a word from either yet. I have rarely been dissapointed with any hotel that I've received through Priceline. In fact, this is only the second bad room I've ever had, the first being in the 2* catagory in Key West FL. However, I'm not going to take a chance at this level with Priceline again for LAX.
  22. Just to add a note, I continued to put bids in through Priceline right up until the day before we left. I was never able to beat the price I had at Hampton Inn using Priceline. This is the first time in many years that Priceline hasn't been able to offer us a better rate. What I found unusual was the large number of vacant rooms for this date. The Hampton Inn was maybe 50% capacity at best. Every hotel in Branson had the vacancy sign out for that night. On the 17th it appeared that the hotels filled up a lot more, but there were still a LOT of vacancy signs out.
  23. This is also about the time of the first round of March madness. I'd bet there are more than a couple of people who use the Hilton and Marriott's park and fly option to travel to game sites over the weekend.
  24. This had to be one of the more difficult bids I've tried in several years. The hotel rates were pretty high for this partiuclar date with the Hilton and Marriott both coming in at $129 to $139 for the one night. These are the only 3 star hotels I know of at the Kansas City Airport. Most of the other hotels were in the $50 to $80 range. First bid was for $50 for the Kansas City, MO airport -failed Rebid adding Kansas City North (no 3 star hotels in this cat) for $55-failed Rebid adding Kansas City South (no 3 stars in the cat.) for $60-failed Rebid adding Liberty, MO (no 3 stars in this cat.) for $62-accepted Hotwire was $68 for a 3 star for this date. If the $62 bid had failed, I would have attempted one more $65 bid before going to Hotwire. From the description on Hotwire I'm sure the $68 3 star was either the Hilton or the Marriott. Of note this is the highest winning bid I've ever paid for the Kansas City Airport location. I've also noticed that the cost of these hotels has gone up considerably over the last year or so. I used to be able to book the airport Hilton for around $89 using normal online travel agencies or directly through Hilton. Lately I haven't been able to find it under $100 for any of the dates I would need it. Overall I still consider this a good deal as the Marriott is my prefered hotel in this area and the best price I could find online was $139 before taxes. Details of the winning bid: Marriott Kansas City Airport Check-In Date: Thursday, March 10, 2005 Check-Out Date: Friday, March 11, 2005 Kansas City Airport (MCI) 775 Brasalia Way Kansas City, Missouri 64153 816-464-2200 See Hotel Website View Map and Directions Reservation Information: Check-In Date: Thu, Mar 10, 2005 Check-In Time: After 03:00 PM Check-Out Date: Fri, Mar 11, 2005 Check-Out Time: 12:00 PM Your Offer Price: $62.00 Number of Rooms: 1 Number of Nights: 1 Subtotal: $62.00 Taxes & Service Fees: $16.62 Total Charges: $78.62
  25. Lately I haven't had much luck bidding for Branson on Priceline. Last Spring I got a 2 Star Econo lodge for $30. It was OK for a night but, if Econo Lodge is a 2 star in Branson, I decided NOT to bid on a 2 star again. Recently I've been trying to get a room for December 16th. It's a midweek room and not exactly high season for Branson. It's the last week Silver Dollar City is open and, I believe the last week that the Christmas shows will be running. Weather can get bad this time of year in Branson as well. At any rate, I ended up booking a room at the Hampton Inn for $53. as all our bids with Priceline, up to $40, for 3 star hotels had failed. Total cost for the Hampton Inn will be $59.06. That's pretty close to what the final cost would be through Priceline with a $45 bid. Since Econo Lodge was considered a 2 star with priceline, getting the Hampton Inn has affected what I'm willing to now bid on Priceline. It's to the point that I really don't consider Priceline a viable option for us for this a particular trip.
