  1. A steal at $35 - cheapest available rate directly from the hotel is $95. Tried so many times to get a 3* anywhere in San Diego but bids up to $70 have not been successful. Should be added to the hotel list (couldn't find it here).
  2. Promotions that are sent out by the hotel directly are in most of the cases cancelable - as per my experiences.
  3. Hi, first of all you should book this $129 room (if ithis offer is cancelable) as a backup solution. Secondly, this is already a great rate for this hotel but you can try to get it even cheaper but I have strong doubts that will get it for less than $100. You have plenty of time to give it a try. Have fun.
  4. Now it's working again ... strange.
  5. The site seems to be offline. Is it only me or has anybody else access to this site?
  6. The only hotel for less than $50 on Hotwire in the LAX area (next hotel is $62). Quite OK for me. Amenities are: Kitchenette and laundry. Should be added to the hotel list, because I couldn't find any 2.5* there so far.
  7. The Doubletree Airport Hotel. Sorry, I was so upset I even forgot to mention the name ... :)
  8. Got it at first try, not very happy with this win, though. Bid before for a 4* up to $48, lowered to 3* and $39 - bingo. Hotel charges $13 for parking which brings the total to $65 including taxes and fees. But since there is virtually no way to avoid hotels that charge for parking, I'll do the best out of it. Rgds, -Hank
  9. Thanks for your help ... maybe I'll give PL a try with a 2* bid ...
  10. The only 2.5* listed here is the Clarion, but this seems to be sold out on 1/27! Amenities are: - Airport Shuttle - Complimentary Breakfast - Pool - High Speed Internet 1 Mile to MCO. Wasn't able to get a 3* room thru Priceline, bid up to $50 ...
  11. Just came back from my stay at the Hyatt Regency Jersey City. First of all - it was really a steal and I don't want to complain about anything. Just some remarks: It is not true that every room has a view of Manhattan (either the South or the North). There are some rooms which do have no Manhattan view at all due to the non-rectangle shape of the building. On the right side of the hotel, there is some kind of ledge which prevents the rooms in the landward half of the hotel from viewing Manhattan. All you can see from those rooms is Ellis and Liberty Island. I called the hotel ahead and asked to be put on an upper floor - which I got but with the drawback mentioned above. So make sure to ask for a room with Manhattan view explicitly. Unfortunately, they had no other non smoking rooms available so I couldn't move. I imagine the nightly view of Midtown must be breathtaking. Checking in was smooth, Priceline was mentioned but not with a negative attitude. Rooms are OK, especially compared with NYC. Public transportation is easy, the only drawback is that the unlimited ride MetroCard (which btw. has increased to $24 yesterday) is not valid on PATH trains (but the pay-per-ride card is), but hey - investing $3 a day pp. to get from and to that bargain is still more than just affordable. The PATH station at the WTC site is HUGHE (I wonder for what reason) and you have to walk quite a distance, especially if you have to reach i.e. the A or C train. If you should have booked a rental car with Hertz - the location is in the same parking garage as the parking lot for the Hyatt (I mention this because I had problems to find it w/o asking someone of the hotel staff. The small booth is not visible from the outside and there is no Hertz sign. Will definitely stay there again.
  12. You're right, the path remains the same (and therefore the possible delays, too) but it might be not as overcrowded as the A train. And, as another advantage, it goes straight to WTC, so I don't need to change the train in order to get to PATH.
  13. Hmpf ... you might have heard from the subway incident in Lower Manhattan ... http://www.nypost.com/news/regionalnews/39314.htm http://www.mta.nyc.ny.us/alert/alertnyct.htm Since I'll arrive at JFK and have to take the AirTrain anyway, what about using the "E" train from Jamaica-Sulphin Blvd to WTC, I guess this should work well, shouldn't it?
  14. Thanks, cabara. Any input is greatly appreciated. I have a question regarding the view. Is it true that every room has a view of Manhattan or are there landside rooms I should be aware of?
  15. Thanks for the tip, I'll give it a try (but it will be closed on the weekend, so I'll need an alternative then).
  16. I'm sure that there are better malls elsewhere, but I don't have a car and not much time to spend for shopping, so it should be better than nothing. Thanks for the LightRail tip, I'll probably use it for the way back to the hotel, it's for sure more convenient to use the train instead of walking with all the shopping bags.
  17. Thanks. Next question arose ... how safe is it to walk from the hotel to the Newport Center Mall? It seems to be only approx. 1.2 miles by foot, but I'm not sure how safe the streets are, especially on the way back. Regards, -Hank.
  18. Thanks again. A little walk for breakfast is not a problem, but having a good breakfast is important to me - considering the strenuous day in Manhattan. I couldn't find La Conguita in your restaurant list, where exactly is it located? Regards, -Hank. Edited to add: I just found it: La Conguita Description - Authentic latin cuisine. Services - Daily specials, breakfast, lunch, dinner, wine & beer Hours - (Please confirm) 7 days a week Address - 351 Grove St, Jersey City, New Jersey ( NJ ) 07302-2914 Map It Telephone - (201) 435-6770 - but it gets no good reviews: http://www.kannekt.com/review/jer19551.htm I neither speak Spanish nor do they know me ...
  19. I thought both destinations are OK, according to the PATH map: Breakfast is the most important meal, what do you recommend for breakfast near the hotel? Thank you.
  20. A question ragarding public transportation form JFK airport: Is it the best way to take subway line A to Canal Street, change there to line E back to WTC and jump there on a PATH train to Hoboken? Thanks, -Hank.
  21. That's a great beginning to plan my visit, thank you.
  22. 1st bid accepted, I'm looking forward now to see "The Gates" :) @thereuare, thanks for this great resource and as I have learned from other threads, you are quite familiar with this vicinity? Since this is my first stay in New York outside of Manhattan, I'll probably have some questions. Is it appropriate to use this thread with any questions? Best regards, Hank
