  1. You are correct, this should be under Minneapolis, MN and the zone is EAGAN, MN (southern suburbs).
  2. Different chains apply rewards differently. The best example was my Marriott Rewards program last year. They were running a Rewards promo offering a free weekend stay with 10 stays purchased through the year. I was able to apply 4 Hotwire stays to get to the 10 stay level (2 stays @ Fairfield, 1 @Residence & 1 @Townplace Suites). Priority club (through Holiday Inn) just gives you incidental points plus using any Priority Club amenities. Starwood has changed, but I had a co-worker get to the "Gold" level by staying at a Sheraton through Hotwire. As far as using the Travel Programs to resolve problems thru a Hotwire stay, I have not had much issue to do so (yet). I have always called the hotel imediately after a booking to give them my travel program info and to confirm or switch the room type (non smoking, king or doubles, off main floor) before showing up. One of the great tools after finding this site is now I can call a specific hotel before booking and know if certain room types are really available. The biggest issues for me when booking a room is to get: 1) Non-smoking 2)off the main floor 3)a room without adjoing doors (to your neighbor's room) and 4)2 double beds if traveling with kids.
  3. I have not used the trip insurance yet for Hotwire. I have looked at it and know that the insurance mostly covers injury, sickness, or other severe conditions. And I do not know what type of info you need to provide as back up to get your money back. I have had bookings through hotwire that I have gotten stuck with due to changes in business plans. I had one in detroit where I was going out to train a coworker and his father passed away, I did not have insurance but tried to call the hotwire customer service and the hotel directly. I was just trying to get the stay changed for two weeks later. I had even checked on Hotwire and the same hotel was showing up available for the later stay but was unable to get the new dates or a refund. Since my business reimburses me for travel, I was personally not out the money and the way we looked at it was for all the money we have saved an occasional 'glitch' was just part of the risk and rewards of using Hotwire. I did learn when Hotwire worked for us and when it didn't, I am looking to go to WDW in the fall and will proably use Hotwire. I may wait until a little closer to the trip to make my final bookings. And I will probably figure out which hotel we will target (via this board) and just keep calling to see how full they get and compare the prices offered. I have had a whole week in a 3.5* in midtown Atlanta that went unused when business plans got changed. I even called some people I knew in the area to see if they wanted a free stay but no one was able to use it. It might be interesting to see a posting section here of purchased trips that might be available (purchase or swap??) from other members if a stay is going to go unused. When I called the hotel for the Atlanta trip all I would have had to do was change the name of the person staying at the room.
  4. Pool - Breakfast - Laundry Decent hotel on north side of town. Clean, comfortable, nice sized bathrooms. Nice sized rooms with workdesk. Ok breakfast (ceral, breads, donuts, fruits, etc). Has acouple of restaurants next to the property and more a short drive to the east (chilis, outback, applebee's etc). I am not sure if I just didn't see or find it, but the second floor rooms do not have elevator access (or maybe there was one way off in a far corner). If you prefer rooms off the mainfloor this may be an issue, or ask for a room near the elevator if there is one)
  5. Shuttle - Pool (OUTDOOR) - Fitness - Breakfast - Kitchen - Laundry booked on 12/4/03 Nice hotel in the Minneapolis/St Paul area. Only about 10 minutes south east of the airport. Residence inn have great front desk service, rooms were clean, comfortable, and spacious. Interior furnishings were in good shape but showing some age. Residence Inns are great for extended stay business, this one has a good breakfast and a nice loaction just off the expressway. Only downfall for the residence Inn's is they do not have a business center or any high speed connections. The lobby has fax service and will make limited copies. There is restaurants, office depots, and kinkos not far away (one expressway exit south). Good overall hotel.
  6. Most credits can de done instantly to a credit card. All credit card machines or terminals have a code that is a 'credit' vs a 'charge'. Most hotels can re-swipe or reenter your card # if it was swiped when you checked in, and enter a 'credit'. The same is done if a credit card charge is entered wrong at a store or gas station. For Hotwire, when I have had a problem they respond very quickly. And one time I recieved an email from them where they had given me 25$ of account credit to use because they (Hotwire) had double charged my credit card. They double billed it one day, and sent the email (and creditted my account) the next day. Outstanding customer service!!!!
  7. I used Hotwire hotels a lot for work travel and I have been charged duplicate charges. I now make a point when checking in to confirm the Hotwire is prepaid, and when I check out I do confirm the bill if it has any incidentals. And I do check my credit card bill as well. The worst experience I had was with a Amerisuites that took a month to credit my credit card back. I have also had a Holiday inn and candlewood suites recharge me at check out as well. But both times I stayed at the front desk and waited for them to run the re-credit. I think it has more to do with a staff person who has not processed a hotwire check in before, when brought to the attention of a manger they quickly resolved it -they also quickly asked for my first check out receipts because they were billing me the amount that they charge hotwire for the rooms. And all the times I have used hotwire some hotels did not require a credit card or deposit on check in, but that also varied more I think on staff training.
  8. I use Hotwire quite a bit for traveling on business. I am local to Chicago but I have had alot of co-workers travel in and book via hotwire. They have stayed at an Embassy Suites that was listed as a customer favorite. It is located on Butterfield Rd about 2 miles west of Rt 83 and 1/2 mile east of the Highland Ave (a major interchange with Interstate 88). It actually backs up to the North side of of the Highway. Very close to a lot of restaurants and two major shopping centers. There is also a Sheraton (4 PTS) on 22nd street that is literally down the street (heading East) from the Embassy Suites nearer Rt83 that comes up as either a 3 or 3.5* via Hotwire. I did not book these rooms myself but I know the Embassy Suites was a Customer Favorite. They have also stayed a few Wyndams from Hotwire in this area.
