  1. I am planning on a long weekend in December, a busy time in the city. It's obviously a long way away, so have plenty of time to bid. I find I have good luck by bidding early :-) So far I have bid up to $200 4* in CPS, MTW, ESB, MSG and TS with no luck for about 2 weeks. My max will be $225 but I'd like to stay at $200 max for a little bit. I am considering adding on 3.5* in CPS, MSG and TS. What should my strategy be for 3.5*? No free rebid zones...Again a max of $200. Thanks! Sara
  2. Been bidding for a few days. Started at $45 and added rebid zones. $70 was my max and am pleased with the location! Very good Tripadvisor reviews and a nice discount over the rack rate. I used the PRICELINE link. Might want to add it to the PL hotel list--looks like it's a new addition (and a newer hotel). Sara
  3. Just booked my flight today so thought I'd low-ball a London Hotel because I have so much time. Only bid 5* in Mayfair and Westminster. Started at $150 and added free re-bid zones up to a max of $197. I'm pleased with the overall hotel, very well rated on Tripadvisor. I think the location is a little less than desirable, but hopefully made up for by the all-Suite rooms and great reviews :-). (Note: Pay attention that Westminster zone crosses south of the Thames) I used the PRICELINE link. Might want to add this to the list of Hotels. Sara
  4. Yes the $414 is for all 3 nights (including taxes). That would probably be about $125/night in PL terms. So I definitely have room to play! There's a 3* on Hotwire for $112 (total $375). Not much of a deal, IMHO. And I'm sure to always use the PRICELINE link :-) I'll report back if I win anything.
  5. Been bidding for a couple of weeks. Started at $50 up to 90, adding re-bid zones. I've booked a refundable stay at Hollywood Casino for $414. Ugh. It always kills me that I pay so much to go to Bangor Maine versus any other major city b/c I can never seem to get a good PL win. Does anyone ever win in Bangor? I'll post with updates.
  6. Saw that there was a similar hotel on Hotwire for $66 with taxes. Bid on PL only in this zone, staring at $38 and going up by $1. Happy with my result! Of course, I used the PRICELINE link each time I bid.
  7. Just booked my flight tonight. I elected to only bid in the Space Needle zone. I didn't like reports of a few hotels being remote from the city center and a few of the downtown/Pike Place hotels had reports of bedbugs (eek!) Used the PRICELINE link. Started bidding at $60 adding rebid zones and $5. Very happy with my hotel! 4 nights, with $61 in taxes/fees.
  8. I have been bidding for about 3 weeks. My max bid was $165/night (<210/night with taxes). I started with 4* and started at $100 and up to $165 in TS, MTW, MTE, EPS, CP (adding rebid zones). When I maxed out at $165 in 4*, I added 3.5* in MTW, CPS, Madison Square (I dropped MTE b/c a few in this zone were too far east and TS had too many reports of bedbugs, IMHO). I started at $100 and used rebid zones over a few days to work up to $165. I used the PRICELINE link each time; I'm an expert bidder thanks to this board! Very pleased with the results. Sara Offer Price: avg. per room, per night $165.00 Rooms: 1 Nights: 2 Room Subtotal: $330.00 Taxes: $62.38 Fees: $18.20 Total Charged to Card: $410.58 Prices are in US dollars.
  9. I've been bidding $66 for 3 1/2* and $56 for 3* (only in Portland Zone). On two occasions I had an extra $6 bonus bucks, making it $72 for 3 1/2* and $62 for 3*.
  10. Just thought I'd update. As always, thanks for your help. I've been bidding every 2-3 days with no luck. I always use the PRICELINE link. I've even had 3 bids with +$6 bonus bucks from Priceline. One time I even increased my over all bid a few dollars with no luck. I figure I have another month or two until start bidding higher or just (*GASP*) pay for a standard hotel room. Does anyone have any insight why no deal so far? I travel to Maine often, and this lack of PL deal is unusual.
  11. Trying to get a hotel in Portland, ME for two nights over Thanksgiving. So far no luck! I'm surprised because 2 years ago I got the Clarion (3*) for $39! Times are changin' I guess. The published rate (non-refundable) for 3 1/2* (Marriott Sable Oaks) is $109. I have bid up to $83/night with no luck. With taxes and such, was only a total savings of $47. (Maybe, I'm just used to so much MORE savings!) For 3* it looks like the Clarion is available on Hotwire for $80/night. I have bid up to $76/night with no luck. I have plenty of time, so guess I'll wait a bit and try again in a few weeks. Sara
  12. Started at $75 and went up in $5 increments, adding free re-bid zones. I used the usual PRICELINE link. Sheraton Boston Hotel Copley Square - Theatre District 39 Dalton Street Boston, Massachusetts Your Offer Price Per Room, Per Night: $95.00 Subtotal: $95.00 Taxes & Fees: $21.85 Total Charges*: $116.85 A similar property was on HOTWIRE for $127, so this seems about right.
  13. Been bidding for a few days for a Toronto Downtown South 4* with no luck for 3/5-3/7. Considered adding 3* OR Downtown North but nervous that some of the hotels have pretty mediocre reviews. Not sure why no luck--can't imagine it's a popular time to visit Toronto. I will likely stay at a B&B. By the time you add in cost for internet and parking, it will probably be cheaper at a B&B. Any thoughts why I'm having no luck? And I used the PRICELINE link. Sara
  14. I started at $50 and added rebid zones (13 of them!). Went up to $88. Closed browser and reopened, adding Coronado zone (also 4*). Started at $80 and went up, adding the rebid zones. Price seems a little high, compared to other wins (there's a $71/night at the Omni for the same weekend). But very happy to get in the Gaslamp district :) I used the PRICELINE link. Check-In Date: Thursday, April 7, 2011 Check-Out Date: Monday, April 11, 2011 Hotel Name: Westin Gaslamp Quarter San Diego 910 Broadway Circle San Diego, California 92101 619-239-2200 Your Offer Price: $100.00 Number of Rooms: 1 Number of Nights: 4 Subtotal: $400.00 Taxes and Fees: $64.36 Total Charges*: $464.36
  15. I did! :-) The one listed under "Support/Travel Links." Sara
  16. Friday, August 6, 2010 Check-Out Date: Sunday, August 8, 2010 Hotel Name: Hilton Garden Inn Portland Airport 145 Jetport Boulevard Portland, Maine 04102 207-828-1117 Your Offer Price: $77.00 Number of Rooms: 1 Number of Nights: 2 Subtotal: $154.00 Taxes and Fees: $21.36 Total Charges*: $175.36 I've started at $30 ( :) ) and have been bidding up slowly in all zones, 3 and 3.5* only. The most I think I've ever paid while staying in Portland, but know this is a popular time to visit. The listing price is $381, prepaid, so guess I can't complain!
  17. Thanks for the advice. I agree that Wed night seems to be the problem. I bid up to $120 for 3-4* in Convention Center and White House with no luck. Then added 3.5* in Dupont and Foggy Bottom with no luck. I tried taking out the Wed night (splitting the bid) with a similar bidding strategy with no luck. Not really happy about the splitting, so didn't try to split it into Wed/Thurs and Fri/Sat. I will likely just stay at the Conference Hotel. It's a reduced rate and in Crystal City. First time Priceline hasn't worked for me!
  18. Scratching my head with a bidding strategy for DC. My main problem is not knowing the geography too well. I need to go to a conference in the Crystal City area one day (Crystal Gateway Marriot in Arlington). But will spend the other days sightseeing (Senate, Native American Museum, Smithsonian). I don't think I want to stay in the Arlington area--seems too far away to be convenient for sightseeing. But want to stay somewhere sort of close to not break the bank in taking a cab to the conference one day. That being said, I've been bidding 3.5 and 4 stars in the Convention and White House zones with no luck (using my two re-bid zones). So far up to $105 with no luck. This was initially the top end of my budget, but *may* bid up to $120 tonight. Should I just keep trying? Split my dates? Is it reasonable to add in Dupont Circle, or is this too far from the conference and sight-seeing? I guess if all else fails, I will bid 3*, but this is not my preference. Thanks for you help. I've been using the PRICELINE link. Sara
  19. This was helpful to me, also. We are visiting in early May. BKMTL, Current "free" re-bid zones: For 4*: Alexandria West, Bethesda, DC Suburbs, Mt. Vernon, Silver Springs For 3.5*: DC Suburbs, Mt Vernon For 3*: Mt Vernon Hope this helps. Sara
  20. Started off bidding in the Wyoming/South zone, $30 everyday in $2 increments up to $44. No luck. I could book a Holiday Inn Express for $62, so didn't want to go above $44 (plus tax). Went back to $30 in the SE/Airport area, using Wyoming/South as a "free" rebid zone. Got it on my second try at $32. Pretty happy with the deal! AND I used the PRICELINE link, as always :-) Holiday Inn Select Kentwood 3063 Lake Eastbrook Boulevard Kentwood, MI 49512 616-285-7600 Room Cost (avg. per room, per night): $32.00 (USD) Number of Rooms: 1 Number of Nights: 1 Room Subtotal: $32.00 (USD) Taxes and Fees: $11.74 (USD) Total Room Cost: $43.74 (USD)
  21. 3* listed at Grand Rapids Hotel zone for 1/23. Laundry, pool, internet and fitness. Don't see anything like this listed on the hotel list. Thanks!
  22. Lowest bid I saw for this area was $83 (for the same period), so thought I was low-balling it at $70. Was shocked when it was accepted! Wish I would have started bidding lower :) Hyatt Regency Boston One Avenue De Lafayette Boston, Massachusetts 02111 617-912-1234 Your Offer Price: $70.00 Number of Rooms: 1 Number of Nights: 1 Subtotal: $70.00 Taxes and Service Fees: $16.57 Total Charges*: $86.57 *And* I used the PRICELINE link. Love this site.
  23. 1st Bid accepted! And I thought I was low-balling it--the lowest bid I saw on the board was $39. Make me wish I started bidding a bit lower :) Clarion Hotel Portland 1230 Congress Street Portland, Maine 04102 207-774-5611 $38.00 Number of Rooms: 1 Number of Nights: 3 Subtotal: $114.00 Taxes and Service Fees: $17.55 Total Charges*: $131.55 And I used the site's PRICELINE link.
  24. I'm going the weekend after you and got a great rate on 4* in MTE a few days ago. 110/night, which is very good for spring time in Midtown. I, personally, see no reason to not start bidding now. I also had questions about getting from airport to hotel, and ther are a few threads in the general NYC section.
  25. Yes. And I just realized I wanted to post this under the topic of "airport to Hotel" in the NYC general forum. Anyway to move it?
