  1. Well, I for one think it's great that opinions aren't censured on this bulletin board... I find there is more "dialogue" here, rather than "lecturing". Keep up the good work! DeltaPurser :)
  2. Interesting... According to this "presentation" hotels DON'T pay a commission on the bookings to Priceline... Now, if I could figure out a way to crack into the WorldSpan system at work and see the PL rates, I'd be a happy camper! DeltaPurser :)
  3. Oh, boy, were you LUCKY!!! I've never stayed at a "W", but it's sure up there on my list of dreams... Hope you enjoyed every single minute of it! If that had been me, I would have stayed in that room 24 hours straight... Who needs to see Chicago (no offense!) when you're at the "W"??????? DeltaPurser :)
  4. How's THAT for dedication! Writing to give all of us an update from work... Thank you soooooo much! DeltaPurser :)
  5. Congratulations! I'm sure you will enjoy the hotel. I live in the area part time and can tell you it is a beautiful property. You'll be withing walking distance of the 17th Street Causeway from which you will be able to watch your ship come in. You've got a supermarket not too far away, and the area has tons of restaurants within walking distance. It's a safe area where you won't have to worry about much if you decide to take a walk at night. It's a towering hotel with excellent views... If you end up on one side you'll face the Intracoastal Waterway and the ocean, and on the other side you'll have views of downtown. ENJOY YOUR STAY!!! DeltaPurser :)
  6. It is my understanding that all PL bids are processed automatically by the res. system (Worldspan). There is no way a human can sit there and analyze each of the tens of thousands of bids that are processed each day, pick one of these and decide to "upgrade" a hotel to a different star level just to accept a bid... (No, not even an underpaid, over-worked off-shore employee in India!) DeltaPurser :)
  7. That sucks! But I don't remember reading anywhere that there is a time limit on how long they have to accept a bid... All I know is that they "will USUALLY have a reply within 15 minutes". Have you checked the area again afterwards? Does it now offer a 3* hotel? If not, I don't see how they would turn a 2* into a 3* just to accept one bid... Strange situation. DeltaPurser :)
  8. Hmmmmmm... lemme' see... paying taxes or travelling?! NOT a very tough choice, and I'm right behind you! A great point was brought up... That Priceline actually stimulates travel. I for one have taken tons of trips solely based on good rates at PL hotels. It seems to me like it's a win/win situation: I save money on the hotel. PL makes money on my purchase. The hotel makes money because I would not be there had it not been for the PL rate... That's why I'm online checking other people's winning bids all the time. If something cool comes up... DeltaPurser's there! :)
  9. Trendy being the key word here... Some hotels seem to sacrifice comfort for this. I too have stayed at one of their properties in Berlin... Art'otel City Center West. They have an ongoing Andy Warhol exhibit that was actually kinda' fun. All in all, I was impressed with their service and comfort. Look forward to seeing if the hotel in BUD is as nice and inviting. Review to follow. DeltaPurser :) <--- I just love this "face"! I'm claiming it as mine and will use it as my trademark!!!!
  10. 2 nights, March 16-18. The price on their website was listed as EUR. 238 for both nights, but that includes breakfast. Got it for $60 per night, which, with taxes and fees, translates to EUR. 120.29 for both nights. HALF OFF, BABY!!! Your Offer Price: $60.00 Number of Rooms: 1 Number of Nights: 2 Subtotal: $120.00 Taxes & Service Fees: $25.79 Total Charges: $145.79 I didn't see it on the list of hotels in Budabest, so here's the website address... http://artotel.de/budapest/budapest.html DeltaPurser :)
  11. Oh, and one more tip... As an alternative to PL, you may want to compare rates at lastminute.com... They negotiate special rates with 10-15 hotels in each city. Lots of options for Holland, Belgium, Germany, England etc... DeltaPurser :)
  12. Hi kids! I just wanted to briefly comment on the Ibis option in Paris... Are you familiar with the Ibis chain? Have you ever stayed in one of their hotels? As far as I'm concerned, it is about as far away from a "comfortable, business class" hotel as you can get. PAPER THIN walls, and beds that actually are built on top of plywood (at least the two that I have frequented... at the CDG Airport, and in Nice). I'd only use them again if I had absolutely no other alternatives... They are comparable to Motel6, I'd say. If you have another option for another $15-20, I'd definitely go for that. But that's just my opinion... :)
  13. Thanks for posting that... I had never heard of the site before. Great for SFO bidding! There's also HRS.com which is basically the same, but they have hotels all over the world... Actually, come to think of it... HRS.com is even better, I'd say, since you don't need a credit card or anything to hold a room...
  14. Hi bturner13! Just a question for you... Is it possible that you bid for a 1*, but was actually upgraded to a 2*? And what was the rate you paid? I am often in Atlanta and find myself bidding 4* as I am almost certain to get the Westin or Hilton, but I actually like Fairfield Inn, and the breakfast would be a nice perk... DeltaPurser
  15. This is one of those cases where you really want the more expensive hotel... I know from TOBB that the Sheraton usually goes on Priceline for somewhere between $75-80, while the Westin goes for around $90-110. As am sure you are aware, bidding a higher price is in no way a guarantee of getting the more expensive hotel. Your only way to ensure you'd get the Westin in this case would be if the Sheraton was sold out and your bid was high enough to be accepted at the Westin. Am I right, or am I right? :)
  16. Alright... I'm impressed! I looked at the source code and found... nothing! It's people like you that make me feel... well, dumb?! Thanks!... I guess :)
  17. :) I know what this is referring to... The answer is no. But it was only EUR. 17, rather than the EUR. 23 found at the Westin. A real steal!!! :)
  18. I just realized, as I posted a winning bid, that the TOP Hotel Alsterhof in Berlin's Tiergarten zone isn't listed as a possible hotel on the Hotel List... I have yet another one to add that I have won on two previous bids: Park Plaza Hotel - also in the "East" zone. Website: http://www.parkplaza.com/hoteldirectory/ho...D03210403220410
  19. This sucks! I bid the usual $60 hoping to get the Westin, but guess what shows up... TOP Hotel Alsterhof. Not even comparable to the Westin. The room was alright, and the location is excellent - especially since I love to shop at the KaDeWe, but it's no Westin, that's for sure... Here's the website to the hotel: http://alsterhof.com/home/index.php4 Had I checked the Westin website prior to bidding I would have realized it was sold out... Live and learn! The best rate I found at the hotel's own website was EUR. 98 per night, so at least I saved a couple of $$... which I immediately blew on a really cool backpack at KaDeWe!!!!! DeltaPurser
  20. Gentlemen! I'm looking for a room for a friend that will be running for the first time this year. As I'm researching rates I found a 4.5* hotel in the Midtown East zone on Hotwire that sells for $160. Not a bad deal, I guess. Have no clue as to what hotel it would be and don't know if this is an area you would consider... Good luck! DeltaPurser
  21. Just a quick note on the free Wi-Fi... Mine worked just fine. Had the laptop running most of the day and never had a problem. Very strong signal the whole time. I did have a room facing the atrium, so I can't comment on the rooms facing out. DeltaPurser
  22. Hey MJRBIM... Check your confirmation page again, because PL started listing upgrades again a few days ago. That way you will know if it's really a 3* or not. (May help for future bidding...) DeltaPurser
  23. Oops... Had I looked to see that this post was actually listed under HOTWIRE rather than PRICELINE I would have kept my clam shut... Sorry about that. My only question now is: How come I'm not getting scolded??????? Will my membership be revoked now? Am I banned from posting from now on? Just wondering...
  24. Hi Chasman! You're going to love the place. I'm here right now... Actually ended up extending my stay. Bad news though: You waaaaaaaaay overbid! I got it for $31 for same date, and lots of people are getting it for $28 now (as seen on TOBB). Still a good deal though... I'll be down by the pool! DeltaPurser
