  1. Me again... Added another night to our Phoenix stay, but this time chose a different zone: $32 accepted (failed at $30) in the downtown Phoenix zone - Holiday Inn Midtown Hotel website: http://www.ichotelsgroup.com/h/d/hi/1/en/h.../phxsf?irs=null Lowest rate: $58 DeltaPurser :)
  2. First bid (very unlike me!) - $40. Best rate on the holte website for this date: $59. The reviews I've read aren't that great, so we're going there expecting the worst, and hopefully we'll be pleasantly surprised... Everybody keep their fingers crossed! DeltaPurser :)
  3. I guess that proves the point... I just did a quick search again for Atlanta and came up with the same thing - Netscape is always $1-4 less than IE! Something to keep in mind for those using Hotwire... A similar search thru Priceline's Vacation Packages returned the same rates both IE and Netscape, so I'm guessing Priceline doesn't differentiate between browsers. DeltaPurser :)
  4. I think this may be a new one for the list... Haven't had it show up before on my many PHX bids. Got it for $23 (and YES, I tried for $22 before my bid was accepted, so this seems to be the lowest amount they will accept.) Hotel website: http://amerisuites.com/hotels/listhotel.php?code=AJSD Rate on hotel website: $59 DeltaPurser :)
  5. Glad it worked out for you... Hope you enjoyed Boca Raton! DeltaPurser
  6. I second everything B747 wrote... Great hotel - everything is new and clean. Only problem would be the location - there is NOTHING around here. Getting to a restaurant could be a problem if you don't have a car - only thing within walking distance is a drive-thru Tim Horton's and a doughnut/coffee shop. Breakfast was excellent. We actually felt somewhat guilty to parttake in it since we had only paid $27 (incl. taxes and fees) to stay there. Will DEFINITELY stay here again!
  7. Hi bturner... Take the time to write a complaint to both Marriott and Priceline. If nothing else, the hotel may be downgraded to a 1* (which, in my experience, most Fairfield Inns are). And the only way Marriott would know to pull the license from this property would be if enough people complainted about them... Sorry you had a bad stay! DeltaPurser
  8. Hi Randi! I just came back from Philly, and even though I didn't end up using Priceline, I looked into it before I left. The good news is that a 4* bid for downtown will give you 7!!! free rebids. I saw accepted bids for 4* downtown hotels (Hyatt, Loews, Westin...) from $65 to over $100. A starting bid at $60 (adding $5 per free rebid) would be a good place to start I guess. Labor Day weekend could prove to be a tough nut to crack though... Best of luck! DeltaPurser :)
  9. I just can't get over the fact that an Econo Lodge is rated 2*! If you find the time to write a review after your stay, I for one would be very interested in reading it... Hope you have a ball in Branson! DeltaPurser :)
  10. I just read an interesting post over at Flyertalk.com and thought I should share it with all of you... Seems different rates are quoted for hotels or airline tickets, depending on the browser you are using when visiting Hotwire. Try it yourself... Do a hotel search using Internet Explorer. Then duplicate the search using a different browser (Netscape or Mozilla for example) and you will see that rates on IE are $2-6 HIGHER! I'm left wondering if the same applies to Priceline... If lower bids are accepted when I visit their site using Netscape vs. IE. Anyone have any experience with this? DeltaPurser :)
  11. I'm assuming this is a manual process that will take quite some time, and it's better to do it right from the getgo than to have to go back and re-do it later. California and Florida seem to be the most popular destinations, so starting with those states would make the most sense. Question: Why would you NOT divide the states into cities? Grouping e.g. Los Angeles together with San Diego and San Francisco would only eliminate a few listings from the original format. For a large state like that, splitting it up into four zones would make a lot of sense: 1) Los Angeles 2) San Francisco 3) San Diego 4) Other. As far as Florida goes, most publications (tourist guides, etc) successfully divide the state into 1) Miami/Fort Lauderdale/West Palm Beach (South Florida) 2) Orlando & Central FL 3) Naples, Fort Myers, Tampa/St. Petersburg (Gulf Coast) 4) Pensacola, Fort Walton Beach, Destin (Panhandle) 5) Other I can see why you would want to avoid terms as "South California" or "Gold Coast" as not everybody is familiar enough with the states to know where "their" destination fits... Best of luck, and lots of thanks for doing all this work! DeltaPurser :)
  12. Have you tried bidding for something on Priceline? I'm not that familiar with their airfare deals, but I hear of people getting some good deals from time to time... May be another option for you. Other than that - $232 for a ticket is a GREAT deal!!! You DO realize it's even cheaper than taking Greyhound, right?!?! DeltaPurser :)
  13. That's an awesome deal!!! Would be great if it was available during the ski season as well, but I seriously doubt that... You mentioned using 4* as a risky rebid - does that mean this hotel is actually a 5*? You got upgraded? DeltaPurser :)
  14. If you click on "Help" on the main Priceline screen, then "Search by Topic" - type in "adding"... This will give you some good info and the rules for adding nights to an accepted bid. In short, you can only do it before you check in, and the price would be the same... Good luck! DeltaPurser :)
  15. Thanks for your input WillTravel... I'll try using a different credit card next. It gets even stranger though... I was just able to enter a duplicate bid (same city, zone, starlevel, higher amount)... And I didn't get the "We're sorry, our records indicate you have already....."-message. It just came back as "We're sorry, we were unable to locate a hotel...". I give up! Hope it works tomorrow... DeltaPurser :)
  16. I've been bidding like crazy this weekend/beginning of next week for a little getaway, but ALL my bids - even for areas that I consider "sure bids" - have been rejected. I'm talking $10 over what usually is accepted... I also noticed that it's been taking a looooooong time to get a response on my bids since yesterday (Friday, June 18th). Is it just me, or are others having the same problems? What used to take less than a minute now seems to take 5-10 minutes... Anyone? DeltaPurser :)
  17. I remember a couple of months ago when the Hyatt used to show up for around $27-28... Now $34 seems expensive. Amazing how one can get spoiled so fast! Great hotel. If you've got a laptop with WiFi, make sure to ask for a atrium room, as they seem to have the best signal. Enjoy your stay! DeltaPurser :)
  18. Thanks for the details... See ya' in Vegas! DeltaPurser :)
  19. Hi Dirk, Congratulations on your bid! Just a quick question for you re. your first two nights at the LV Hilton... The $59... is that per person, or total for two people? And it includes room, breakfast, 2 dinner buffets, coins and 2-4-1 tickets????? Sounds like a great deal... DeltaPurser :)
  20. Hejsan! Congratulations on your winning bid! Nice is one of my absolute favorite destinations, and the location of this hotel is absolutely to die for... at the end of Promenad des Anglais, close to the market and the main square. The hotel is older and some of the areas are in need of renovations, but all in all, I'm sure you will love it. I'm pretty sure they won't give oceanview rooms to PL guests (but, hey, it's worth asking for...), so if you're stuck in a city view room, make sure to go up on the rooftop pool and enjoy the view from there. Have a wonderful stay! DeltaPurser :)
  21. My kind of bidding... I like it! Hope you have a nice stay. DeltaPurser :)
  22. Just stayed here for one night and was very pleasantly surprised. Location is alright... Not right smack-dab in the middle of "downtown", but only one block away from Sherbrooke, 2 short blocks from the Place des Arts Metro stop and within walking distance of all that Ste. Catherine has to offer... The Navette will take you to and from the hotel free of charge if you come in on the Airport Bus. There's a great supermarket that's open 7am to Midnight every day of the week across the street. Half a block away, there's an internet "cafe" that's open 24-hours. Plenty of restaurants, coffee shops etc. around the hotel. We were given a nice room on the top floor (8th) with a city-view. Standard room size. Very comfortable bed (firm), small TV, and AC (something not all hotels have in Montreal). Local calls are free. Bathroom was standard as well... Just watch out for the hot water! It almost melted the bristles on my toothbrush!!! Best part of the hotel: the staff. Extremely friendly, polite and helpful. I'll be back in two weeks and hope to get the same hotel again! DeltaPurser :)
  23. I'm going to go one step further and say... AWESOME POST!!! Thank you so much for the insight and for giving us an inside perspective. DeltaPurser :)
  24. :) Unfortunately I'll be out of town this weekend, otherwise I'd come look for you down by the pool... Enjoy your stay! And keep that bathing suit on, cause' we've got sea lice this time of year!!! DeltaPurser :)
  25. Anytime someone mentions needing a hotel somewhere I volunteer to help them bid... Besides my own family and close friends, I've helped out quite a few co-workers when they need hotels between trips. Most of these are airport zones where the prices don't fluctuate that much, but it's still fun... DeltaPurser :)
