  1. Even if $90 isn't enough for a 4* like the Hyatt it could be enough for something higher rarted than a 2* in SOMA. Which 2* hotel did you book for $90? If a 2* in SOMA is good with you maybe you can win one for less than $90 ($50-60?) by bidding SOMA zone on PRICELINE.
  2. Hyatt is sold out and Intercontinental $299. With Hotwire's 4* @ $267 you need to be bidding higher in WW-CC. $170-200? Is 4* in Beverly Hills-West Hollywood acceptable? 3.5* in WW-CC?
  3. I don't know what's happening in SF 11/2-11/5 but something I think because rates are very high. Most 4* are $300+ and some $400+. Lowest 4* I see is the Hilton at $279. Hotwire has 4* USE @ $272 and 4* USW @ $253. Is USW your only acceptable zone? If so I suggest bidding to your $150 limit there. Adding more 4* zones like USE and Embarcadero will increase your odds of acceptance too. If you don't have success to $150 do you have any flexibility to adjust your honeymoon dates? Other November dates show better availability. Thanks for using the board's PRICELINE link.
  4. If Priceline has a 3* now I think it will be higher than $65, possibly in the $75-95 range. 3* rates for your dates: Marina Del Rey Hotel $164 Courtyard MDR $189 Hotel Erwin $271 Holiday Inn $351 A bid of $82 would be 50% off the lowest available retail and that's a good deal. Hotwire's lowest price in Santa Monica-MDR is a 1* for $97. If you want to bid higher you have to wait 24 hours from your last rejected bid to try again. If you don't want to go higher than $65 you could try for a 2.5*, or try some other less expensive zones....$65 could be enough for a 3.5* in Redondo-Manhattan Beach or 3* in Culver City.
  5. You've got your two rebid zones correct. Good luck with your bidding. Please let us know how it goes.
  6. You have TWO rebid zones for 3* in LA. Those are zones that only have hotels less than 3* quality. If you need help ID'ing your two rebid zones feel free to ask. I suggest $60 for a 3* in Santa Monica-Marina del Rey. Add rebid zone #1 and bid $72. Add rebid zone #2 and bid $85. Please start your bids with this PRICELINE link. Good luck and let us know how it goes.
  7. On closer reading I see you prefer Beverly Hills-WeHO over Hollywood. The strategy above was aimed towards getting the least expensive available in either Hollywood or WH-BH. If you want to bid to your $120 limit in BH-WH first, before trying Hollywood at all, I suggest this: Select 3* BH-WH and bid $65 If rejected add rebid #1 and bid $75 If rejected, exit Priceline, close browser, and start a new bid. Select 3* BH-WH + rebid #2 and bid $85 If rejected add rebid #1 and bid $95. If rejected wait 24 hours and repeat, but starting at $100 instead of $65. If BH-WeHo fails to your limit then try Hollywood after.
  8. Which zones did you bid to $120? Are you bidding USW too?
  9. Welcome to the board, Buba. With Priceline you can't bid for a particular hotel, and there's no strategy that improves your chances of winning a particular hotel. You could win any reported 3* or higher in the zone, or you could be the first to report a new 3*. If you're okay with any 3* in Santa Monica-Marina Del Rey zone let us know your travel dates and bidding limit and someone will provide a strategy. Please use these HOTWIRE and PRICELINE links for your purchases and searches.
  10. When bidding for a 3* in LA you've got TWO rebid zones. Those are zones that only have less than 3* quality hotels. If you need help ID'ing your two rebid zones please ask. Here's my susggestion: Starting with the PRICELINE link, select 3* Hollywood and bid $65. Add rebid #1 and bid $75. Add rebid #2 and bid $85. If rejected exit Priceline, close browser, reaccess PRICELINE, select 3* BevHills-WeHo and bid $65. Add rebid #1 and bid $75. Add rebid #2 and bid $85. If rejected exit Priceline, close browser, reaccess. Select 3* Hollywood + BevHills-WeHo and bid $90. Add rebid #1 and bid $100. If rejected exit, close, reaccess. Select 3* Hollywood + BevHills-WeHO + rebid #2 and bid $110. Add rebid #1 and bid $120. Good luck and let us know how it goes.
  11. When rates are high some people will try the Civic Center zones. The location might be a compromise beccause they're farther from the core, but transportation is easy and it's possible you can win a 3* in one of the Civic Centers for under $100. Or you could try for 2.5* in your preferred zones.
  12. This board sees virtually zero 2* bidding Downtown. As high as Downtown prices have been this summer I'm surprised we don't see more. The only 2* reported--Hotel Diva (USW) and the Baldwin (USE)--are well reviewed as 2* go, with 4/5 TripAdvisor ratings. Something new could come up for the first time too, or a current 2.5* could be downgraded. If Priceline has something "beat down, sketchy, old, decrepit discusting" hopefully it's rated 1*. You're bidding expensive dates and even the 2* are high. Baldwin is $159 and Diva $246. If you can win either of those for $75 or less you're getting a good deal. Hotwire has a 2* in USE for $112 and a 1* in USW for $96. There are no rebid zones for 2*. I suggest this, starting with the PRICELINE link: 1) Bid $50 for 2* in USW. If rejected exit, close browser, reaccess PRICELINE, and 2) Bid $50 for 2* in USE. If rejected... 3) Add USW and bid $55. If rejected wait 24 hours and repeat the above at $60/$65. Wait 24 hours again and repeat at $70/$75. Good luck and let us know how it goes.
  13. You've got four of your five rebids for 3.5* correct. SOMA-Moscone is NOT a rebid zone because S-M has 4* hotels. If you add S-M to 3.5* bids in your desired zones you could win a hotel in SOMA. Rebid zones are those that only have hotels of lower quality than you're bidding. Since you want a 3.5* you're looking for zones that only go to 3* or less. Your fifth rebid zone is SFO North-San Bruno, not SOMA. Replace SOMA with SFO North and the posted stratetgy is right. It goes higher than your limit but you stop at any point you like. Please start your 3.5* round with this PRICELINE link. Good luck and let us know how it goes.
  14. The only way to guarantee you'll be at the same hotel all six nights is bid all six together. If you split your bid you'll probably win two different hotels. If you don't want to switch hotels I suggest bidding to your $150 limit for all six nights now. You've got three more rebid zones in addtion to the three you listed. Ask if you need help ID'ing your six rebids. Please start your bids with this PRICELINE link.
  15. I think it could take something closer to $100, possibly more, for a 3* in North County Coastal zone that night. Holiday Inn Marina is the only 3* reported this summer and it's $207 that night.
  16. Hotwire doesn't have anything with two beds and a pool icon for your dates. If you don't see something on LastMinuteTravel you may have to book this one conventionally.
  17. An Air+Hotel+Car package might cost the same, or less, than purchasing the pieces individually. You'll have to do some rate research to see. Find a package deal with a hotel you like. From the package's total price subtract out the lowest airfare you find. Then subtract out the lowest car rental rate you find. What's left is the hotel component. Is that amount more or less than $600, the approximate cost of a ten-day Priceline bid at $52?
  18. For a ten-night stay $60 tax inclusive means a maximum bid amount around $52/night. (Priceline's transaction fee per night gets smaller for longer stays. A one-night stay at $45 has about $15/night in tax and fees; a ten-night stay at $45 has about $8/night in tax and fees.) And parking, where it's charged, is extra and could range from free to ~$50/night, depending where you stay. The zones near UCLA have parking rates at the higher end. Suburbs and airport area have lower parking rates. Lower end hotels in Hollywood sometimes charge $5-10/night. Even Motel 6 in Hollywood charges for parking. $52 won't be close to enough for a 3* near UCLA and it's probably not eneough for a 2.5*. UCLA is on the Westside, and that's generally the most expensive area for hotels. There may be some suburbs where you can get a 3* for $60 or less but you're looking at a drive, maybe 30-60 minutes depending where you land. Once your dates are firm let us know your bidding limit (not a range like $50-60, but one number....the highest amount you're willing to bid) and someone will suggest alternatives that might come in for that price, in zones that have lower parking fees than Westside. Please use these HOTWIRE and PRICELINE links for your purchases.
  19. If there are two drivers Priceline may not be the best option. The companies can add a fee for an additional driver and that fee can vary by company. Since you can't know in advance which of the five companies will accept your bid it's impossible to project what the total cost will be.
  20. The Hyatt Regency is sold out your first night 9/1. The other three nights are available at $239. If you win four nights in Embarcadero it probably won't be at Hyatt then. Do you still want to try for a 4* there? If so what's your bidding limit? Or do you want to split your stay and try for the last three nights when Hyatt is available? Doing that will give you a shot at the Hyatt at least, but something else could come up too.
  21. Priceline usually accepts less than their counteroffer, so you can likely win this between $91 and $101. You don't have to wait 24 hours to bid again if you add a rebid zone. You have six rebid zones for 4*, allowing you to inch up one dollar at a time. Ask if you need help ID'ing your six rebids. Select 4* Embarcadero + rebid #1 and bid $91 Add rebid #2 and bid $92 Add rebid #3 and bid $93 Add rebid #4 and bid $94 Add rebid #5 and bid $95 If rejected exit Priceline, close browser, reaccess PRICELINE through link... Select 4* Embarcadero + rebid #6 and bid $96 Add rebid #1 and bid $97 Add rebid #2 and bid $98 Add rebid #3 and bid $99 Add rebid #4 and bid $100 Add rebid #5 and bid $101 Or you can just wait 24 hours and try higher...maybe $95.
  22. What's your general budget per night? A 4* in Westwood-Century City usually costs ~$110-150 on PRICELINE, and parking extra. There's not much recent bid history for 3.5*/3* in WW-CC zone (like none), but I'll offhand guess $75-110, plus parking. If you'll drive for lower rates and cheaper parking (not necessarily free though) some zones to consider are: 3* Culver City, 3.5*/3* LAX, and 3* Van Nuys-Mission Hills-Sherman Oaks. That's the cluster of suburbs north of UCLA up the 405. Sometimes it works well; other times no. Once your dates are finalized you can start a separate thread in the Car Rental section of the board if you want help with that.
  23. These icons haven't been reported before. The hotel only has 10+ reviews, so I think it's probably someting new and unreported. The Hampton Inn Downtown would be a good fit and that's my best guess, but I think there could be other possibilities too. If you purchase please use this HOTWIRE link and let us know what you get.
