  1. HOTWIRE has a 3.5* for $67. It's something we haven't seen here before but my guess is it's the Waterfront Hotel at Jack London Square. The Waterfront's a Joie de Vivre hotel and it gets very good reviews, but it looks like it's about 12 blocks from BART, which I suspect is further than you want to be. (You can take the ferry from Jack London to downtown SF though, if that's your destination.) Fitness, Pool, Restaurant, Business, Highspeed Hotwire has no 3* in Oakland and the 2.5* they're offering is a known hotel that's not near BART. The only way to guarantee a near BART location is to pay rack rate for a known hotel. Marriot is $149 and Courtyard $129. If you want to gamble on PRICELINE I think odds of getting one of those two are very much in your favor, though not 100%. I suggest bidding the $45-60 range. Please let us know what you decide, and thanks for using the PRICELINE link, if you go that route.
  2. Unfortunately the Oakland Marriott and Oakland Courtyard have never been reported to this board as HOTWIRE wins. (Many Marriott hotels participate in PRICELINE but not HOTWIRE.) If you find something on HOTWIRE post the icons and someone will try to ID. There might be something other than a Marriott that's near BART. What are your travel dates?
  3. Hardworking moderators, please move San Jose thread to Cali-Other forum. :)
  4. Priceline's Oakland-Alameda zone excludes the airport area but it does include Alameda which isn't served by BART. Theoretically you could be the first to report winning a 3* hotel in Alameda, although I don't think that's likely since Priceline doesn't show any 3* hotels in Alameda in their retail product. They do offer a couple 2.5* in Alameda. For easy BART access you're probably safe bidding 3* in Oakland-Alameda, but never 100% guarantee. If you win something please let us know what you get. Good luck!
  5. Welcome to BetterBidding! To start with let's see if we agree that you're looking at the Westin. What are your exact travel dates and what Hotwire icons do you see? (e.g. Fitness, Pool, etc.) And how many beds do you need? Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links for your purchases and searches.
  6. note to mods: Hilton Concord is in Concord-Lafayette zone, not Berkeley-Emeryville. :)
  7. The icons have changed and the price is now $56, up from $48. I still think it's likely the Governor's Inn though. Still 500+ reviews, although the TA stats are now deleted. Shuttle, Comp Breakfast, Fitness, Pool, Internet If it's not the Governor's Inn it's something else with a shuttle, maybe the Hawthorn Suites upgraded to 3*. Gov Inn and Hawthorn are across the street from each other. Good luck!
  8. I don't think two rooms is the issue, rickshi. Hotwire has a 4* in LAX for $76 that looks like the Westin, so no need to bid $85 for a 3* on Priceline. If you prefer low price over 4* rating you could try from $50 to $76 for 3* on PL once more; then buy the Hotwire 4* if those don't work. Like Romelle, I'm surprised $85/3* was rejected in LAX zone, and I think it's worth trying some lower bids again. If you do I suggest $50 for 3* in LAX. Add Hollywood at $55 Add Santa Monica at $60 Add BevHills at $65 Add Lawndale (rebid zone) at $70 Add Inglewood (rebid zone) at $76 No luck? Buy $76 Westin. Please use the board's PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to start your purchases.
  9. Thanks for the updates. My best guess is either Holiday Inn Airport or the Radisson, downgraded from 3.5* to 3*. Both hotels have been reported with those icons but the 4/5 TripAdvisor rating matches Radisson. HI is 3.5/5. If you purchase please use this HOTWIRE link and let us know which hotel you get.
  10. SJSU is downtown but Priceline's San Jose zone is larger than just the downtown area and includes SJC airport. Are you okay with winning a hotel anywhere within PL's San Jose zone? If you only want downtown area Hotwire might be the better choice, even though HW usually costs more than Priceline, because you can often identify Hotwire hotels in advance and have some confidence you're purchasing a downtown hotel. If you see anything on Hotwire within your budget you can post the icons here and someone will try to ID. Btw, on Hotwire Downtown San Jose and San Jose Airport used to be two separate zones. They've been merged into one zone now, called "San Jose area". The Hotel List hasn't been updated yet to reflect the zone merge. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links for your purchases.
  11. I just noticed this Priceline win earlier today where someone won your exact dates at the 4* Manchester Hyatt (Downtown zone) for $95. You might be $1 from a win Downtown then, if not in Coastal. The other bidder started 3+ weeks in advance. Rejected $140 on 8/31. Accepted $95 on 9/19. In his/her case waiting paid off, but it doesn't always work out like that.
  12. Nobody knows. It could go either way. You got a $116 counter to your $94 in Coastal. Priceline's been known to accept just one dollar more than the offer. Since your limit's $95 I'd try $95. Hotwire has a 4* in La Jolla for $125, which could be the same hotel. Or it could be a Priceline 3.5* since HW often rates the same hotel higher than PL. If $95's not enough for a Priceline 4* in Downtown or Coastal it might be enough for 3.5*. Good luck!
  13. Governor's Inn is my best guess too. The listing says 500+ Hotwire reviews, and with that many reviews this is very likely a new icon set for a hotel already in the Hotel List; not someplace new and unreported. The other reported hotels with a Shuttle Icon--Hawthorn Suites and La Quinta--were rated 2.5* at last reports and neither of those has a 4/5 TripAdvisor rating. I'll vote for Governor's Inn then. If you purchase please use this HOTWIRE link and let us know what you get.
  14. Also, the Hyatt Regency is in Embarcadero zone. I think the OP won the Hyatt Fisherman's Wharf. It takes a village to edit a subject line. :)
  15. Welcome to BetterBidding! The Prescott is in USW zone. Is USW an acceptable zone too? There are nine reported 4* in USW but only three in USE, so you'll greatly improve your odds of acceptance if you add USW to your bidding. Hotwire has a 4* in USW for $275 and a 4* in Embarcadero for $265, but no 4* in USE at all. Priceline may not have anything in USE either. It's possible prices may drop as your dates approach, but it's also possible they'll go up. Nobody knows. Is that $260 rate at Prescott cancellable? If so you could reserve it now and keep bidding until your cancellation deadline. Please use these HOTWIRE and PRICELINE links for your purchases and searches.
  16. Just curious where you saw the bedbug report. If you're talking about the TripAdvisor review posted on Sept 8 I don't consider that a review with high credibility as it was written by someone with only two posts. The poster said he stayed at the Seven Seas in Feb 2011, but he didn't post the bedbug report until seven months later. More than 40 Seven Seas reviews have been written since Feb 2011, and scanning them I didn't see any other reports of bedbugs. One review mentioned bugs in room, but not bedbugs, and that post was also from a one time poster. If a hotel really has bedbugs generally there will be several reports, not just one, and at least some of them will come from regular TripAdvisor posters with a long track record of many posts.
  17. Forgot to mention... I don't like connecting rooms and usually when I check into a hotel I ask if any nonconnecting rooms are available. At hotels that have connecting rooms Priceline guests are prone to getting them, especially when the hotel is sold out, as the Crowne Plaza was. At checkin the desk clerk told me all that was left was connecting rooms. Not only was my room connecting, it was connecting on both sides, to two different rooms. I've never seen that before anywhere. So yeah, $45 was a good deal, but not a good deal I want to repeat. :)
  18. If this situation comes up again (wanting to stay an additional night) you can use Priceline's Add a Night feature, which lets you request additional nights at the same hotel, if available. With Add a Night there's no risk of winning a different hotel and having to move. If your Add a Night request is refused then you can bid conventionally for a different hotel in the same zone. The link to Add a Night is on your acceptance page. Glad it worked out.
  19. Hillcrest-Balboa Park is a new Priceline zone in San Diego, in between Downtown and Mission Valley. Priceline offers 2.5* and 2* bidding in Hillcrest-Balboa. For $50 I won the Sommerset Suites in trendy Hillcrest and it was a terrific deal. Regular rate was $109.65. Hillcrest is a pedestrian friendly nieghborhood with dozens of restaurants, shops, clubs, and movie theaters within walking distance, plus an easy bus connection to Downtown and Gaslamp Quarter. Sommerset Suites 606 Washington Street San Diego, CA 92103 $45 for 2.5* got a $9 counteroffer. No rebid zones for 2.5* in San Diego, but I added Coronado, which always costs more, and bid $50 for the win. Being 2.5* the Sommerset's not what you'd call fancy but you do get a lot of amenities for the money. The rooms are spacious with full kitchens, including stove, fridge, pots, pans, and dishes. With so many good restaurants nearby I don't think many people cook here though. Breakfast was included. I overslept breakfast both days, so can't comment. The rooms have sliding glass doors onto private balconies, some overlooking the pool. I enjoyed the La-Z-Boy style recliner, something you don't often see in hotels. Two bottles of water in the room were FREE, plus free popcorn and granola bars. Internet free. Parking $7/night, which is cheap compared to Downtown. The Sommerset is near two large hospitals and so you hear a fair number of ambulance sirens. That was my only complaint and not a large one. They're a few blocks away. Winning bid placed through the BetterBidding PRICELINE link.
  20. $45 for 2.5* brought a $7 counteroffer. There are no rebid zones for 2.5* in San Diego, so I added Coronado, which I knew would cost much more, and bid $48, which was upgraded to the 3* Courtyard. Courtyard Carlsbad 5835 Owens Avenue Carlsbad CA 92008 Regular price was $125. Bids placed through the BetterBidding PRICELINE link. To update the North County Coastal Hotel List: 1) the 2.5* Inns of America is now a Hyatt Summerfield Suites and 2) the 2* Extended Stay America Carlsbad has been downgraded to 1*.
  21. Welcome to BetterBidding! You're bidding for a very expensive weekend. Hotwire's least expensive option in your five target zones is $229, and that's for a 2* in USW. In all of Downtown Hotwire has only one hotel under $200: a 3* in Civic Center South (which you didn't indicate was an acceptable zone), and that's $193. PRICELINE usually beats HOTWIRE on price, but probably not by a margin of $229 vs $115. I don't know how much a 2.5* will cost, but you know it will be over $90. If Priceline has a 2.5* my offhand guess is it will be closer to the $125-150 range for these dates. The airport zones look expensive this weekend too, but under $100 should be achievable there. Let us know if you have other questions. Please use these HOTWIRE and PRICELINE links for your purhcases.
  22. The two Fairmonts have never been reported as Priceline wins here, so they probably don't participate. You can see the 4* hotels that have been reported to the board here: California Priceline Hotel List If you still want to use Priceline for this, knowing that you probably won't win a Fairmont, let us know which zones by name are acceptable and someone will provide a strategy. Or if you see anything interesting on Hotwire for your dates post the icons here and someone will try to ID. Please use these HOTWIRE and PRICELINE links for your purchases.
  23. Welcome to BetterBidding! Only three 4* hotels have been reported in USE zone. Two of them--Grand Hyatt and Westin St Francis--are sold out on 9/10. The third, the Taj Campton, is $438, and that hotel has only been reported as a Priceline win once. So a 4* win in USE doesn't seem likely, no matter how high you bid. If you want to bid higher and try to win the Taj $225 would be about half price. Hotwire has a 4* in USE for $293, and Priceline usually beats Hotwire on price. But Hotwire and Priceline define USE differently, with Hotwire's USE zone being roughly a combination of Priceline's USE + SOMA zones. I suspect Hotwire's 4* in USE is a hotel that's in SOMA zone on Priceline. So yes, if you want a 4* I think you need to bid some other zones in addition to USE, and you'll probably need to bid higher than $180 as well. I think your best chance of winning a 4* for $200 or less is in SOMA and Embarcadero zones. Or if you want to stick to USE you'll probably need to bid for 3.5* or 3*, and even those will probably be $150+. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links for your purchases.
