  1. Thanks for your quick reply.... most reassuring. I'll be booking via my iPad, and will save the confirmation.
  2. We will be traveling from New England to Florida. Because of the unpredictable nature of weather, traffic, etc. we are planning on booking a HOTWIRE hotel within a few hours of arriving. We will hopefully arrive at each day's destination by late afternoon. Do you think booking within just a few hours will cause a problem once arriving at the hotel? Thanks.
  3. Just wanted to add that this property used to be the Four Points Sheraton... changed to Days Hotel about a year ago. I have posted a hotel review of my stay.
  4. Details of the: Hotwire purchase I would like to preface this review by stating that I cannot remember any other time, in all my years of staying in hotels, when I requested a different room than what we were given. We are not that fussy and have stayed in some rooms that had their little idiosyncrasies, and we just dealt with them. Check in was smooth, was given a room on the first floor (by request.. no elevator in hotel). The room was one of the very last ones down a very very long hallway. We entered the room, and the first thing we saw was a bed. It was in what I can only describe as an alcove.. the bed took up the entire space. There was no night table, no lamp… nothing but the bed. At the foot of the bed, against the wall, was a refrigerator and a microwave. A few steps in revealed a small bathroom. A little further was another bed, this one had 2 night tables and reading lamps mounted to the wall. It also had a TV. I’ve never seen a room arranged like this. My husband and I would then not even be in the same room. After some discussion with him, we decided to request another room. He would stay in the room and I would go to the front desk and call to tell him which room to go to. He has a very bad back and walking and climbing stairs are very difficult. Back at the front desk the clerk immediately said there were NO rooms on the first floor.. any other room would involve stairs (which she knew from our previous discussion would be difficult for my husband). I asked her to check… she refused saying she knew there were no other rooms. I asked her to call our room… she tried, twice, said he must be on the phone because it goes right to voicemail. I knew he wouldn’t be on the phone because he was waiting for me to call him. So back I go all the way down to the end of the hall. Turns out the phone is dead.. no dial tone. We decide that we just can’t stay in that room and would deal with the stairs, so back I went to the front desk. Luckily, the woman who had been there previously had left, so I explained to the new clerk that we needed a different room. He immediately got on the computer and I saw him click, click, clicking. Finally he said he found one, on the first floor, and handed me the keys. Before getting all our stuff, I checked out the new room. OMG, it was GORGEOUS!!! Big room, 2 queen beds, big flat screen TV mounted on the wall, remodeled bathroom, bay window, modern tasteful furniture… I could go on and on. Was this the same hotel? I do not know if that first clerk plain out lied, was too lazy to look, or thought because we got our room at a discount via Hotwire that we simply didn’t deserve a ‘good’ room So.. would I recommend this hotel. Yes, but if you booked via one of the opaque services like Priceline or Hotwire, check the room out first before dragging all your stuff there. If it seems inferior, be firm about requesting a new room.
  5. Pleased with this hotel. Price on hotel website is $149, but saw it on another site at $119. Still, at $77, a great bargain! Here is what I think is the complete list of amenities: Free Parking Free Internet Indoor pool(s) Airport Shuttle Smoke Free Rooms Fitness Center Pool(s) Restaurant(s) Business Center Laundry Facilities (self-service) High-Speed Internet Access Accessible path of travel In-room accessibility Accessible bathroom Handicapped parking
  7. I’ve been checking Hotwire (and placed a couple of unsuccessful Priceline bids) for these dates in Bethlehem. This hotel was originally about $47/night, then went up to $57 for a while. When I checked earlier today, it was down to $44, so I jumped on it. I was a bit upset when I saw it was in Allentown, and I bid on Bethlehem. But looking at it on a map, it is located across the street from the Lehigh Airport, we have stayed at this location before, and it is very convenient. I have a feeling that this was under a different hotel brand previously. Here are the particulars: 3* Days Hotel Allentown/Bethlehem Airport 3400 Airport Road, Allentown,PA,18109 Check-in Fri, Sep 27, 2013, 3:00 PM Check-out Mon, Sep 30, 2013, 11:00 AM Rate per night: $44.00 Nights: 3 Rooms: 1 Tax recovery charges & fees: $25.01 Subtotal: $157.01 Amenities: Airport Shuttle Smoke Free Rooms Fitness Center Pool(s) Restaurant(s) Business Center Laundry Facilities (self-service) High-Speed Internet Access Accessible path of travel In-room accessibility Accessible bathroom Handicapped parking Used BB HOTWIRE link as usual.
  8. Yes there was. I thought it was a repeat. Not sure why pool was mentioned twice... ascfarcas I recall, there was only the one indoor pool.
  9. Found this on Hotwire, and for $45/night over Labor Day weekend... just couldn't resist booking it. We stayed at this hotel last year, same weekend. Although some of the tripadvisor reviews are horrible, we found it perfectly acceptable. Here are the details: Quality Inn Mystic Summary of charges Hotel Rate per night: $45.00 Nights: 4 Rooms: 1 Tax recovery charges & fees: $36.71 Subtotal: $216.71 Amenities: Free Parking Free Breakfast Free Internet Indoor pool(s) Smoke Free Rooms Fitness Center Restaurant(s) Business Center High-Speed Internet Access As usual, used the BB HOTWIRE link.
  10. Got the Travelodge, as expected. We need a hotel halfway home from a concert, and the price was right for just one night. Specifics are: Travelodge Great Barrington, MA 400 Stockbridge Road, Great Barrington, MA, 01230 Rate per night: $46.00 Nights: 1 Rooms: 1 Tax recovery charges & fees: $11.40 Subtotal: $57.40 Trip total: $57.40 Used BB HOTWIRE link, as usual.
  11. I wanted to title this "Be careful of what you wish for." This rental car is pre-cruise. I checked the regular priceline rental rates and they were all around $100+. So I decided to put in what I thought was a REALLY lowball offer of $20 to see if they would counter. Once again, to my surprise, they accepted the offer!!! The details are: Alamo Compact Car Pick-Up : Fort Lauderdale - Hollywood Intl (FLL) 600 Terminal Dr Suite 202, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33315 - On Airport Drop Off: Miami Intl (MIA) - 3900 Nw 25th St, Miami, FL 33142 Pick-Up Date & Time: Saturday, January 12 2013 - 2:30 PM Drop-Off Date & Time: Sunday, January 13 2013 - 10:00 AM Your Offer Price: $20.00 (per day) Total Rental Days: 1 SubTotal: $20.00 Taxes and Fees: $16.41 Total Rental Car Charges: $36.41 The cruise line offers a shuttle bus from FLL to the Port of Miami for $44 for 2, so this even beats that price, to say nothing of going back to the airport and then waiting around until the bus fills up. We're most pleased.
  12. We will be returning from a cruise into the Port of Miami early in the morning, but flying out of FLL at 5PM. Since the thought of just sitting in the airport all day did not appeal to us, we tried looking for a rental car out of Miami. The prices were all pretty much close to or over $100. However earlier I got an email from Priceline about rental cars. Just for laughs, I put in what I thought was a really lowball bid of $25. Imagine my surprise when they countered with $30. Here are the details: Ford Focus or similar Compact Car Pick-Up : Miami Intl (MIA) On Airport Drop Off: Fort Lauderdale - Hollywood Intl (FLL) Pick-Up Date & Time: Sunday, January 20 2013 - 9:00 AM Drop-Off Date & Time: Sunday, January 20 2013 - 3:30 PM Your Offer Price: $30.00 (per day) Total Rental Days: 1 SubTotal: $30.00 Taxes and Fees: $19.62 Total Rental Car Charges: $49.62 You saved 48% Now all we have to do is figure out how to get from the Port the the Miami Airport. I apologize that on this occasion I did not go through the BB PRICELINE link, as I always do... I had simply clicked through the email.
  13. I agree... I googled 'all inclusive resort in Ft. Lauderdale" and the Inverry came up. It gets absolutely horrible reviews on tripadvisor, so I will pass on this one. We have booked a cancellable hotel in the Airport area, and probably will stick with that, since it offers both Airport Shuttle and free breakfast.
  14. Would like some help in IDing the above hotel Amernities: All-Inclusive (Food and Beverages Included Rate includes all meals, snacks, and alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. Premium-brand beverages may be offered for an additional charge.) Wheelchair accessible Free Internet Free Breakfast Tennis Nearby Golf Nearby High-Speed Internet Access Business Center Restaurant(s) Pool(s) A la Carte Dining Options This would be for a pre-cruise stay out of Miami. We would need to get from the FLL Airport to the hotel, and back to the Airport the next day. Does anyone know about how much a taxi would be to the airport? Or is there some sort of shuttle? It is approximately 8 miles. We prefer to fly into FLL, and the cruise line provides a reasonable shuttle bus direct to the port in Miami. Thanks! JB
  15. The morning of our departure from a Best Western hotel, I found a document under our door. It was full of legal mumbo-jumbo, but the gist of the message was that if the third party (i.e. Priceline) did not pay full charges, then I would be liable for them. They also tacked on a sentence about being liable for damages. Over the years I must have booked over 50 hotel rooms with either Priceline or Hotwire, and I have NEVER been handed a statement like this to sign. My feeling is, I paid Priceline, my obligation has been satisfied. If there's a problem... go after Priceline, not me. I left the hotel without signing it. Has anyone ever gotten such a waiver to sign? JB
  16. I will. I've done a bit more research. Apparently the Quality Inn only took over in mid-April, so they couldn't have done much yet. Of course, my stay is still over 3 months away. Like I said before, older decor doesn't bother me, but cleanliness, and things functioning as promised, do. There's not much I can do about it now, but if there is a problem with our stay I will definitely protest to Priceline. I wonder if Priceline ever checks Tripadvisor reviews? There are a couple of local newspaper articles about the problems with the property. I am going to save them in case I need them after our stay.
  17. Well, you are right about it's have been under other ownership. It was indeed a Ramada, and then went independent and was called the Mystic River Hotel. There were reviews as late as March 2012 under the Mystic River ownership. Most of the reviews were horrible... let's hope the Quality Inn folks have spruced it up a bit. I don't really care about the decor.... I'm just sleeping there for a few nights, not buying the place... but I do expect cleanliness, hot water, and the amenities promised. The location is excellent, and there is supposed to be a restaurant either adjacent or attached. We also have found some good breakfast places in the area, so if the included 'Continental Breakfast' is not that great, it's not really a big problem. Whatever... we'll make the best of it.
  18. Have been bidding for about a week for this busy Labor Day Weekend in Mystic, CT. Prices seemed sky high everywhere. I started at 2.5 stars, then when I hit $80/ night, switched to 2 Star. We have stayed in this area over Labor Day weekend for many years, and usually get the 2 star Days Inn. Was really surprised to get the Quality Inn! I couldn't even find a single review for it at tripadvisor. I'm sure it will be just fine... it includes free wi-fi and free continental breakfast. Here are the details: Quality Inn Mystic 9 Whitehall Avenue Mystic, CT 06355 860-536-4281 Check-In Wednesday, August 29, 2012 at 03:00 PM Check-Out Sunday, September 2, 2012 at 11:00 AM Room Cost (avg. per room, per night): $68.00 (USD) Number of Rooms: 1 Number of Guests Per Room: 2 Number of Nights: 4 Room Subtotal: $272.00 (USD) Taxes and Fees: $52.04 (USD) Total Room Cost: $324.04 (USD) Used the BB PRICELINE link, as usual.
  19. Got this on the second bid... first bid of $70 was rejected. We're not totally thrilled with this win because the hotel does not get very good reviews, but we'll make it work. It does include complimentary breakfast, which is a plus. Best Western Dartmouth Inn 737 State Road, North Dartmouth, MA 02747 508-717-0424 Check-In: Fri, Jul 6, 2012 Check-Out: Mon, Jul 9, 2012 Rooms: 1 room Offer Price: $75.00 Rooms: 1 Nights: 3 Room Subtotal: $225.00 Taxes & Fees: $36.75 Total Charged to Card: $261.75 Used BB PRICELINE link, as usual.
  20. Got this on the first bid. Clarion Hotel And Conference Northampton One Atwood Drive Northampton, MA 01060 413-586-1211 Offer Price:$50.00 Rooms: 1 Nights: 1 + Add nights for the same rate! Room Subtotal: $50.00 Taxes & Fees: $13.83 Total Charged to Card: $63.83
  21. Thanks for the reply. I did look to see if we could possibly transfer this reservation to one nearer to the venue, but all the hotels, except for some 1*'s, were twice as much +, including the Knights Inn, Groton, a 1* hotel, which is $799!!! Go figure??? I guess we'll just have to make the best of it. JB
  22. Really sorry about your predicament... hope you are able to get things sorted out. I just wanted you to know that I called Priceline yesterday at 1-800-818-0034 and got someone almost immediately. That number was given to me by the hotel I had booked. JB
  23. They did send me a copy of the 'contract' they said I agreed to by initialing, and it DOES say it cannot be refunded, so maybe it was different then... I really do not remember. OK... after much searching I was able to find the 'contract' on their site, and, unfortunately, it does say it cannot be refunded, so I guess we're stuck with it. Unless someone thinks appealing to a supervisor may work??? I've booked a lot of rooms with Priceline over the years, always using the bidding process, and I've never complained to them about anything, or requested a refund. The other option, which we will probably have to go with, is to drive the 35 miles round trip for the 3 days. Luckily it's in a rural part of our state so the driving should be relatively easy. Thanks for your help. JB
  24. I did search for the property and the same dates, and it does say it is refundable (or, it says, no fees for cancellation... does that mean something different than you CAN cancel. I mean if you can't cancel... there wouldn't be a fee anyway... hopefully that's not what they mean. The price is higher now. And, they did bill my CC when I made the reservation. JB
  25. On January 28th I made a reservation at a Hampton Inn through Priceline's website... NOT the 'Name Your Own Price' section.... for a weekend in August. We attend a music festival in that town every year. Yesterday I received an email from the promoter of the festival saying they have moved the venue to a town about 35 miles away. I called the hotel first, but they told me I had to call Priceline, which I did. The representative told me the reservation was not cancelable. However, when I replicated the search on Priceline today it says right on top... "No Change or Cancel Fees". I honestly do not recall whether it said that when I made the reservation, but I know it didn't say anywhere that I could see that the reservation was not cancelable. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to proceed? I could try calling Priceline again and asking for a supervisor? I paid using a credit card... do you think the CC company would help? Any and all suggestions much appreciated. JB
