  1. This is the old Fairfield Inn on Route 1 in Danvers. It is now a Comfort Inn. Pretty much the same as it was. Breakfast is ok, parking is easy, several restaurants in the area. Once you get used to the traffic patterns it is not hard to reach from either US 1 North (where it is located) or US 1 South. Pretty good value. Close to Logan Airport.
  2. Amenities listed on Hotwire: Free Internet, Fitness Center, Restaurant(s), Business Center, Spa Services, Accessible path of travel. I booked six weeks out because the price on Hotwire rose from $204 to $242 over the course of a few days. Small hotel and probably few rooms for Hotwire users. Curiously, neither Priceline NYOP nor Priceline Express lists a 5-star in this area. Total price was $242 / night. Hotwire price was $215 plus "tax recovery charges and fees" Sorry for any confusion. Thereuare, I tried to edit this but was unable to change the price. Please feel free to do so if it more accurately reflects BetterBidding's criteria.
  3. Hotel is the Bel-Ami, unlisted as yet on these boards. Not cheap at $242 a night, but great location. Am looking forward to it. Will post on wins board.
  4. Thanks, Thereuare -- It looks to me like AaronJB's guess is the best we are going to do: "This listing has not yet been ID'd/reported to the board - the Hotel Bel Ami or a new amenity set for the Hotel Montelambert would be guesses." Both are nice 5*s with small rooms in great locations. I expect I will go for it on Hotwire in the next couple of days, and will post results here. Thanks again!!
  5. Turns out the previous Boston Hotwire thread was from 2009, and it appears I did not use Hotwire on that trip. I have posted this on the original thread.
  6. Bid $110, $115 and got it at $120. Hotel is fine, rooms small, a bit of street noise, but great area. When I asked (innocently) about putting a roll-away bed in the room they wrote that if I tried to put a third person into the room I would be refused entry. Understood. A third person simply would not have fit.
  7. Brief follow up, years late. In this case I did not use Hotwire for my Boston hotel. I assume I used Priceline NYOP but they cannot find trips this far back. Sorry!
  8. We may be getting close. This from a request below (ID Priceline Express - Paris - Aug 23 - 27) and a reply from AaronJB who, with over 70,000 posts, looks like he knows what he is talking about! "5* in Saint Germain des Prés - Jardin du Luxembourg area 90% Recommended Amenities: Free Internet, Fitness Center, Restaurant(s), Business Center, Spa Services Price $253 CAD " Are you also seeing accessible path of travel when clicking on the listing? Please provide all amenities - including accessible amenities - when posting. This listing has not yet been ID'd/reported to the board - the Hotel Bel Ami or a new amenity set for the Hotel Montelambert would be guesses. Yes, "Accessible path of travel" is also among the amenities. Any further ideas?
  9. Could this hotel be the Bel Ami? On BiddingHelper ("Other" column) it is the only 5* listed in the Saint Germain - Luxembourg area. The rates on the hotel web site are € 216 for advance purchase, €230 for online promotion, and €270 for "best available rate." The US Hotwire site is showing $198 and the UK site is showing 179 Euros.
  10. Thereuare -- you are right! I did use Hotwire in June, 2011 for a stay at the Sheraton Boston (the big convention hotel in Dalton Street) for six nights, at $120 per night. If I am not mistaken, this hotel used to be listed as 3.5 stars, and the Sheraton and the Hilton across the street were the only 3.5 stars in this area, making bidding safe. But the Sheraton is now 4 stars, meaning you might get the Copley Square Hotel (I have, but on Priceline NYOP), an older establishment with very small, but re-furbished rooms. All of the other 4-stars in the Copley Square - Back Bay area are just fine.
  11. Thank you. I was requesting Oct 25 to Oct 30th. I honestly don't remember my Boston Hotwire request but I am fairly sure I did not use Hotwire on that occasion. I will look it up, but probably used Priceline NYOP. Thanks again!
  12. Am trying to identify the hotel that Hotwire lists as 5* in the 6th arrondissment, amenities are free wifi, fitness center, restaurant(s), business center and spa services. Under "accessibility" it says "Accessible path of travel" Any ideas? Thanks!!
  13. We booked two rooms on Hotwire for a 4 star hotel in the Notting Hill
  14. Repeat after me: Grad-U-Ay-Shun. With 60 colleges and universities in the Boston area, late May and early June are a mess for hotels. Suggest you call a couple of hotels directly. I had an urgent trip to Boston during the World Series and that's how I slipped into the Holiday Inn Brookline for one night, then got up at 6 the next morning to catch the first cancelation. Not pretty, but if it works... Good luck! Boston is beautiful this time of year!
  15. Slightly off topic, but in the vein of "it never hurts to ask." I was able to change the dates for 3 Priceline Name-Your-Own-Price rooms at the Westin DTW Airport when a meeting was moved forward by a week. I called the hotel and asked for reservations at the hotel (otherwise they will patch you through to the central reservations 800 number) and the young woman accepted the change without question. I was worried right up until check in that it really would not work, but it did. So, in spite of the published rules, it never hurts to ask! :)
  16. That's the same price you would have paid if you had booked directly with the hotel's web site: http://www.kimptonhotels.com/ For a stay of 3 or more nights, it is $164 per night. That is without taxes, just like PRICELINE's rate. Nothing lost, however! It is a great hotel!
  17. The Shaftsbury is the only 4* currently being offered on Hotwire in the Bayswater - Notting Hill zone. The amenities listed are: Non-Smoking, Fitness, Restaurant and Business Center. The price has gone up significantly since I began my search last Monday (10th May). It was $114 / night. When I booked on Friday 14th it was $122, and it is now $142. I might have been able to get a 4* Kensington / Chelsea hotel on Priceline for about $110 and spent the difference on taxi fare, but had hoped to be near to both Paddington and Marylebone stations.
  18. Thank YOU, Yellowdog for providing such a useful service. Do you mean that you haven't seen the Hilton Paddington in a long time, or either of the two 4* Hiltons in the Bayswater - Notting Hill area? I am pretty sure I have seen references to the Metropole fairly recently. But would that and the Shaftsbury be the only two 4* we have reference to in this area? Thanks!
  19. Only two 4* hotels listed on this board for Notting Hill Bayswater. I bid hoping to get the Hilton Paddington (convenience to train to LHR) but was willing to get Hilton Metropole. Got Shaftsbury Hyde Park International for $122 (June 26 and 27). Not too encouraged by the reviews, but will post my experience here.
  20. Hola, Tio - I have asked the same and similar questions on this board and on flyertalk.com, and gotten very tentative answers. First I asked if the prices quoted at Mexican all-inclusives were room-only, just as with other hotels. The answers ranged from "you should get meals included," to "it seems like you probably should get meals." Not terribly authoritative or comforting if bidding. Then I asked if, assuming the prices quoted include meals at all-inclusives, are they per person or per room. Again, I could not find any answer from a person who had actually bid and stayed at a Mexican all-inclusive. Then I asked about a third person (child) in the room and how that might be costed. No help there. Problem is that Hotwire and Priceline rooms can be limited to two people. I don't see how the resort could charge the same for three people as for two, and you could get stuck with the extra charge. It would really be helpful if someone who has actually gone through the process could answer our questions. While encouragement is great ("Good luck with your search!") we could use some hard answers.
  21. Hotwire showing, in this order, Fitness, Restaurant, High Speed Internet and then -- get this -- Golf nearby and Tennis nearby. And for HOTWIRE nearby means within walking distance. This must be an error for the golf, don't know about the tennis. Nearest golf course must be The Country Club, Brookline and I'm not sure HOTWIRE has access! Any ideas what all this is about?
  22. Glad to click through for my booking. I am looking at 19th - 27th March 09. Thanks!!
  23. Hotwire is currently showing a 4.5 star in the Boston Common - Theatre District for $189. No 4.5 stars in this area shown on the pinned list. Nor are there any 4.5s in the contiguous Back Bay - Copley district that might have been re-zoned. Seems unlikely that this would be the Hyatt Regency Financial with a 1/2 star upgrade, as this hotel was recently upgraded from 3.5 stars. Anyone have any ideas?
  24. I'm a newbie but sounds to me like you got a great deal. Did you put Charlestown because you knew there were no 4* hotels there?
