Upon no success with Priceline bidding I chose to take the 4* Hotwire option with the 95% positive Hotwire customer recommended reviews for that area.

Don't give up. As a local who uses betterbidding, prices change constantly. A back-up is good to have a standard reservation but as it gets closer random 3.5 & 4* hotels in the areas you have chosen may be available. You have plenty of time. I have won $300+ hotels for less than $200.

It is a discretionary trip. I do not have a back up hotel plan yet. Just started looking yesterday. I have tickets to a concert in the city that night and will drive home if I have to but would rather not. I live an hour away. I am willing to bid up to around $150, maybe $160.
