  1. 3* Hilton Garden El Segundo-Manhattan Beach. Amenities: 85% recommend. Free Internet, Boutique, Pool, Restaurant, Business Center, Self Serve Laundry, Kitchenette $327 total for both nights. Saving 15% over my AAA direct with the hotel. I was hoping for a bit more savings. I didn't know a Hilton Garden Inn would be classified as a "boutique" hotel. Time to brush up on their lingo.
  2. It's taken me a few days to get to this, but finally have a winning bid. I've done too many combos previously to go over that, but here is what I did today. 1st - 5* Copley - $175 (no dice) 2nd - 5* Copley adding Dorchester - $180 (no dice and this $180 was my threshold) 3rd - 5* and added 4.5* - $160 (no dice) 4th - added 4* - $150 - still no stinkin' dice 5th - added Fenway - $160 - SCORE! Total $337.94 total with taxes/fees. Very pleased to have won this hotel. It was a contender for our trip anyway.
  3. First bid for $65 and won Hilton O'Hare. Grand total with taxes $82.31. Rooms are running around $260+ a night direct w/hotel. :)
  4. I started at $65 and increased by $5 for each bid over the course of a few days. Won Hilton O'hare for $100 plus taxes for a grand total of $122.89. Rooms direct with hotel are running $260-$350 a night. :) I was hoping to get this property with my late arrival.
  5. I can't say for sure, but through process of elimination there's a strong possibility. Renaissance was upgraded to 4* but I see for my dates that a "smoke-free" icon showed up for it. Plus, you confirmed the hotel was sold out. I tried searching vacation packages and Hyatt, Embassy Suites or Sherton Suites came up as options for the level rating or for the 3.5*. I think there is a very good chance the Hyatt has been upgraded. Looks like it's a great rate and on par with Hyatt rates I've paid for in the past. If you go for it, please let us know the end result.
  6. Started bidding at $55 and increased by $5 per re-bid zone. Won $65 plus taxes/fees of $15.05 for a grand total of $80.05. Per their web site, the cheapest available room is $142 less taxes with my AAA rate and $149 without AAA. Nice savings. :) Of course I used the savingsbarn link.
  7. This hotel was formerly Amerisuites. I've driven pass it several times now. It looks like Hyatt has taken it over and renovated it. I noticed that Priceline also gave a 3* option for the Innsbrook zone. :) It may be the Marriott West or Hilton Garden Inn, but I didn't win that category to be able to verify. I had to go with a lower star rating because I was unsuccessful. :) I had to re-bid on the 3* several times and was up to $45 with a no go. I know that low of a price was my wishful thinking. I just need a decent, cheap room in case I get back late from a business trip. Won the 2.5* star, Hyatt Place, right out the shoot at $35 plus taxes/fees with a grand total of $46.99. Used SavingsBarn link. :o
  8. I actually won this bid back on 1/02 but forgot to post it. :) 2 rooms for one night and it accepted my bid on the first try. I don't know if that's a good thing or not. $67 for 2 rooms = $134 Taxes/Fees = $27.74 Total of $161.74 Cheapest rate I can get at this hotel is $189 w/my AAA discount. Looks like a good deal to me! :)
  9. My bid was accepted on the first try! $95 for 3 nights - $285 Taxes = $52.02 Total = $337.02 Cheapest room I could get with my AAA is $188 without taxes a night. Used savingsbarn link. :)
  10. I'm trying to figure out what these would be. I hope someone can help. I've searched the site but can't seem to find a listing for this zone for HW or PL. :) 12/2/07-12/04/07 - Orlando East - University of Central FL zone (Hotwire) 2.5* - Complimentary Breakfast, pool, laundry, hi-speed internet 3* - Fitness Center, pool, restaurant and hi-speed internet TIA! :)
  11. Amenities:Airport Shuttle, Fitness Center, Pool(s), Restaurant(s), Business Center, High-speed Internet Access, Golf Nearby, Tennis Nearby :)
  12. Purchased 2 rooms through HW less than a week out. Cost per night - $139 Plus tax $15.80 Total - $154.80 per room
  13. Very disappointed with this property. The room was not clean. The bathroom sink and counter was visibly dirty. There was a used cleaning rag on the chair in the room. The carpets were visibly stained and obviously hadn't been vacumed by housekeeping. I had no iron in the room. I had to call to get one but only after the man stopped by my room to ask yet again (for the 4th time) if I was sure I didn't have one. :) I still can't help but wonder if they began cleaning my room and then left without finishing. The bathtub was clean though towels were a bit worn and one I grabbed had a hole in it. :) I was on the 1st floor so I got to hear the soothing sounds of traffic all night. The staff's attitude left something to be desired. Again, adamant about not being able to print a zero balance receipt. Restaurant, service was lacking of course which I had anticipated by the front desk's and housekeeping's attitude. Food was just okay. It wasn't tasty but it wasn't inedible either. I can't see how they ever classified this as 3 star. I was only crashing for a night. The bed was obviously made and had fresh sheets. Since the tub was clean I felt okay to use the shower. Since I had those two major requirements met I didn't ask to be relocated. It was so late when we arrived I just wanted to sleep. Turn the lights out and it doesn't matter what the floors look like. I could wipe down the sink before using. KWIM? I won't be bidding in this zone ever again for fear of getting this property. I would've voiced my concerns but I'm sure it would've gone unheard by hotel staff especially with being a PL customer. I paid nearly full price for this property to begin with. PL refused to allow any credit even though the savings were grossly overstated especially for a property that was nearly out of the zone. I could deal with the location but I can't deal with way below expectation type accommodations. No one should have to walk into a dirty room.
  14. What an awesome stay! It's definitely 4* star quality and I scored this off Hotwire. The staff was superb. No mention of HW. They provided a zero balance receipt upon departure. The rooms are insulated from outside noise. The rooms were impeccably clean and the beds were super comfy. Starbucks inside was open early with lots of breakfast items to choose from. It was fairly easy to get to from the airport. No charge for in-room internet. I also had to use the business center for printing and was pleased with it. I will definitely look for this property again if I'm in the area.
  15. Just returned from a one night crash stay earlier this week. Great location! Very easy to get to and get out of. Staff was friendly though check-in was a bit slow. We couldn't get a receipt since we had no charges and were pre-paid. This is the first time I've encountered that. I just prefer to have a receipt showing a zero balance. Valet parked and attendants were prompt. Room was clean though a little under 4* quality for amenities/toiletries. They didn't have tons of candles burning so I was not overwhelmed by the scents (which gives me a headache). I was very pleased they've toned it down. I definitely wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.
  16. I couldn't find the hotels listed for this area on the "big" list. Does anyone know what this is? 3* Amenties: Fitness Center, Pool, Restaurant, Laundry Facilities It's not much to go on. :) 10/09/07-10/10/07
  17. :) I've already called Priceline cust. service to no avail. I could book directly with this hotel for $135 and it's barely in this zone. That's not enough savings to warrant the headache of being away from where I need to be. :) They showed $222 median 3* price AND counter offered me (which I accepted) only to be put far away and not really a difference in price. I'm really irritated. Still used savings barn link. :o I had to add the fact I've used Priceline MANY times in the past and have always been happy. This is the first time I've ever felt duped.
  18. First attempt was $65 for 4* in LAX. Rejected and then increased to $75 and added Culver City. That was a no go. Traveling partner put in $100 4* in LAX - rejected. Added Culver City and bumped the offer up to $125 and which was accepted. Best deal I can find for this hotel is $274 a night. I don't prefer to stay at Westin b/c of the overwhelming perfumed candles they tend to burn. It gives me a headache, but I figured I could handle one night at whatever hotel might turn up for this quickie trip. We fly out early the next morning and I had no "favorite" hotel in mind. Used savingsbarn link.
  19. Pricelined this morning for tonight only - 7/14 and received Marriott Newport News City Center for $80 plus tax for a grand total of $98.59. Rates on their site was showing $169 w/out tax. I started with a bid of $70 for a 3* then bid in the $60 range for 2 and 2 1/2 star with no luck. I closed out an attempted one more time and received the desired 3* on the first try with of $80 bid.
  20. Our family had a great stay here this weekend! We were upgraded to a classic room with 2 queen beds, corner room with a balcony. To our right in the distance was the Washington Monument. I was already a select guest member though we didn't take advantage of the morning beverages. The hair dryer did conk out but they replaced it quickly. The service was wonderful here. It's in an absolutely terrific location and so very convenient to the metro! We felt safe walking around this area also. The only complaint we had was the very hard beds. They need to be replaced. :) We ate breakfast in the restaurant, Robert's, and was pleased with the food. Yes, there is a musty smell in the hallways, but I didn't notice any smell in the room. I found that a bit strange. The smell is not in the common areas either. The hallways were very toasty, too. There was a conference going on but we didn't have any problems with slow elevators. Housekeeping gets two thumbs up for the keeping the place tidy. We would not hesitate to stay here again. :)
  21. Won this hotel for a stay last night. It was a 3* class rating. Pros: 1. Newly refurbished rooms. The room was clean and the bed was very comfortable (heavenly beds). Modern fixtures and contemporary decor. 2. Double shower heads and curved shower rods. 3. Great location - very close to the mall :) and easy access to 495. 4. New, cozy lobby. Felt completely at ease to hang out there. 5. Shuttle service - when you adjust your expectations. 6. Nice work out facility with up to date treadmills. There was an elliptical machine, recumbent bike and weight equipment. :D Cons: 1. Service was hit or miss. Front desk staff was always pleasant. Concierge was spotty. I had one person at the concierge desk walk away from me despite me standing right in front of him to put a telephone book away at the front desk before even acknowledging me. I felt that it was completely rude. :o The room service was behind so they kept pressuring me to eat in their restaurant as to oppose to ordering. You tell me 45 minutes and I say ok then it should be dropped. Do not keep saying "We're so behind are you sure you don't want to come down to eat?" Again, rude and annoying. :) 2. Restaurant food was blah. Skip it and go out to eat even if you are dog tired. Don't believe it when their brochures people drive miles from all over to eat there. We didn't want to go back out and ended eating a hamburger there. We wish we hadn't. 3. Shuttle - It's great as long as you understand they may not be able to pick up when you are ready. We had to take a cab back even though they say it runs every 15 minutes to/from the mall. I called and was told it would be a hour before they could come get us. If they'd told us up front that the shuttle runs to the mall and to other points of interest farther away we would've just drove ourselves or adjusted our expectations. 4. Where were the valet guys to assist with parking and luggage? :) Despite the hit or miss service I'm pleased with the rooms and the location. I'd stay again at this property only if I won it off Priceline. I'm okay with paying full price if service is what I expect it to be.
  22. I wonder if it had to do where I was accessing the site from. It's fine here at home. :) I know I'm not going crazy. :) I will keep that in mind in the future thought. We were on the hot seat and needed a room for tomorrow night so I didn't have a lot time to try and figure out what was going on. Maybe there's a filter I'm not aware of. ???? My travel partner bidded the following: 3* straight through - never changed the star level. $125 Arlington - rejected Added Crystal City and bumped up to $150 - rejected Added Alexandria and went down to $125 - rejected ( this area had hotels for $200 a night so I thought I could go down - WRONG!) Added Georgetown/Foggy Bottom and increased to $150 - rejected Gave up and closed out. 2nd attempt - Me bidding: Earlier in the day - Arlington 3* - $100 - rejected Close Out. Then I tried for Tysons Corner-Falls Church under a separate bid at $150 since they were running about $290 a night on average and won. :D I didn't catch that the Westin wasn't on the list. :o :) Looks like it's been recently renovated. I'll do a review when I return.
