  1. Initially bid $65 and was rejected, added zone (keeping 3.5*) and bumped to $70. Bid accepted, $88.47 after all fees. Feels like a good win for this hotel, would've been $172 after taxes on Radisson's website. Used Priceline link.
  2. Very last minute, but but was dreading the drive tomorrow morning from MSN to MKE for a 7:45 AM flight home so decided to get a hotel in MKE tonight. Bid $55 for a 4* hotel in downtown MKE (2 rooms) and it was accepted on the first bid. Won the Ambassador Hotel. Total for both rooms after taxes etc is $134.38; had I booked through the hotel it wold have been $296.96. Needless to say, I am happy with the rate and the fact that I now can sleep until 6:00 tomorrow morning instead of 4:00. As always used the Priceline link from this site.
  3. May have to do with your dates; if you are looking for a room during a peak period the hotels will be charging more.
  4. Has anyone used this option when renting a car from Hertz? I booked a car in MKE for p/u Feb 6, 2014 with a return on Feb 9, 2014. Four days total, and rates ranged all over the place ($16 per day for a Corolla up to $75 for a Maxima). Was offered "Manager's Choice" for $11 per day. Don't know what kind of car it will be, but it will acommodate anywhere from 4-7 passengers. Since it will be just me driving, this seemed like the way to go. It is not a "pre-pay" rate, so can be cancelled without penlty if I want; it also is eligible for Gold Service. This rate is less than anything I saw on HOTWIRE, I did not try bidding on PRICELINE as I really don't think I can do better than what Hertz offered.
  5. Started by looking on HOTWIRE and noticed that when I searched for two nights instead of three, the prices for what appeared to be the same hotel were about $20 less per night. Then went onto PRICELINE and initially bid for a 4.5 star hotel at $150 for two nights, that bid was rejected. Upped it to $155 and added 4* bid was accepted; I then took advantage of the Priceline offer to extend my stay at the same rate, which was successful.t It looks like you are bidding again, but this time with the knowledge that you are now bidding for one specific hotel. I do not know if this offer comes up every time on a PRICELINE bid, but in the 10+ years I've been bidding on PRICELINE I don't think I've ever not been offered to extend my stay. Without knowing this I can't actually recommend this particular strategy, if you need 3 nights the best option may be to bid for 3 unless you don't mind the risk of moving. Total price for all nights including taxes/fees etc came to $587 where I had booked trough the Westin using a AAA discount it would have come to $994. Quite happy with my $400+ savings. I only searched the Downtown/Pike Place area. As always, I used the HOTWIRE and PRICELINE links from this site to conduct my search and eventual purchase.
  6. Try bidding $90, no guarantees it will be successful but that's what I wound up paying on Priceline for this property for a stay in October.
  7. Started the process yesterday looking for a 3.5* hotel bidding at $60 and then using re-bids up to $100 without success. Tried again today starting at $70 for a 3* and was finally accepted at $90. Total for both nights with fees came to $208.46 (taking advantage of the "summer" coupon). Total on Sheraton's site would have been $438.48. Happy with this property. Used PRICELINE link.
  8. Used PRICELINE link; initially bid $17 for a compact and was given a counteroffer of $20. Declined the counter offer, but did increase my bid to $21 and car type to mid-size. Bid was won through Hertz, total of $121.52. In the end not a huge savings over what I could've gotten using my AAA discount but it still works.
  9. Initially bid $18 for midsize, was offered car for $24 and declined. Re-bid at $18 for compact and was accepted; was then offered to upgrade to midsize for $2 per day and declined. Total cost $54.91; best price I saw on Hertz's site using AAA discount was $56.17 per day for a total of $143.23 for the two-day rental. Buffalo from October 18-October 20. Used PRICELINE link from this site.
  10. Initially bid $10 for a mid-sized and was denied, told I could re-bid for $14. Opted to bid $11 for a compact which was also denied, then bid $15 for a Standard car. Successful;,car through Alamo, if I booked through Alamo it would have been $168.87, but through Priceline it was only $73.52. This rental corresponds with a hotel I booked for the same weekend (and previously posted about). Although I am quite happy with the hotel, they don't offer an airport or MOA shuttle so I figured a car would be cheaper than taking cabs back and forth. Used PRICELINE link from this site for both bookings. It will be interesting as I'm used to booking directly through Hertz as I have their Gold membership, but the savings going this way is too significant.
  11. Used BB's PRICELINE link. Total of $123.10 for two nights. Best rate on hotel's site (non-refundable) was $85 per night for a total of $194.28. Quite happy with the price and hotel.
  12. I have a Christmas party that evening at Patriot Place, so this hotel works out very well for my plans.
  13. Started at $75 and worked my way up with free re-bids, finally accepted at $100 ($119.86 after taxes/fees). AAA rate would have been $147.87 and $165.17 after taxes). I knew this was the hotel I was bidding on as there are no other 4* hotels in the vicinity, or any of the areas I re-bid with. Used PRICELINE link from this site. I don't believe this hotel was previously on the Priceline listings
  14. Thanks, one thing that comes to mind is that one of the ammenities Hotwire listed was an "airport shuttle". Not that it's a big deal, but I'm guessing this one doesn't have an airport shuttle...unless there's one that takes you to other terminals. Interestingly, the main reason I booked through Hotwire instead of Priceline is that I needed something with a shuttle (or was located in the airport as the case may be). When one is bidding on Priceline and selects an airport location, can they be pretty comfortable that there will in fact be a shuttle or are they better off buying from Hotwire where a shuttle is specifically listed? My guess is that I could have saved about $10 by bidding on Priceline, but one will never know.
  15. Got the O'Hare Hilton for $73 ($91 after taxes fees). Would have been $138 after taxes/fees on Hilton's site. Amenities were as follows: Indoor pool(s) Airport Shuttle Fitness Center Pool(s) Restaurant(s) Business Center High-Speed Internet Access Golf Nearby Accessible for the blind Accessible for the deaf Accessible path of travel In-room accessibility Accessible bathroom Used HOTWIRE link from this site.
  16. Got this on my first attempt, $75.62 with taxes/fees. Had I booked on hotel's website it would have cost $247.47 after taxes ($222.61 using AAA). Needless to say, I'm quite happy with the rate. I suspected this would be my hotel, and did take into account the parking rates. Used Betterbidding's PRICELINE link.
  17. Got this on my first bid, $170.87 after fees/taxes. Pretty happy with location/price of the hotel. Used the board's PRICELINE button/link to book it.
  18. FWIW, this appears to be a new hotel that is not on the PL list (I understand that that list isn't meant to be all-encompassing).
  19. Initially tried 3* in West Hartford @ $45, then tried for 2.5* adding Downtown Hartford, finally added East Hartford and bumped up to $50. Total with taxes/fees is $65.04 (same night on Ramada's site is $99+ for a total of $113.85). Used PRICELINE link from this site.
  20. Thank you, I was able to re-book. Still used HOTWIRE link from this site.
  21. Used HOTWIRE link from this site. Searched for my dates in Curacao and an option came up through Hotels.com where the hotel was identified. This is for a "super saver" room; not sure if that's just ROH or if it's something small and cruddy. I can cancel this rome anytime prior to 5/9. Not the typical Hotwire booking as it isn't one of the non-cancellable rooms but I think it's a great rate for this property.
  22. First bid $50 for 3* in East Hartford; was rejected PL did not make a counter offer. Added BDL area and bumped up bid to $55. In hindsight probably should have left bid where it was, but I'm still happy with the rate and hotel I got. Price if booked through hotel's site for same date is $101 (payable in advance, non-refundable; total with taxes would have been $113). Total for my PL booking with taxes/fees is $69.39 for a savings of nearly $50. Used the PRICELINE link from this site.
  23. Although this particular hotel hardly qualifies for being on the waterfront, that is a good price and a great location to catch your cruise. Depending on how much luggage you have you will easily be able to walk to your cruise from the hotel.
  24. Will you only be in Boston for 3 days? For the most part a car is not necessary, "cheap" parking can be had in the area of the Federal Courthouse for about $24 per day but you won't have in/out privileges with this. You will most likely be able to walk to most places in the City that you would want to see. If there is somewhere you want to go to outside the City, I would recommend just renting a car for the day you would need it. Although the public transit system doesn't compare to that of NYC, it is quite good at getting you around the City at a reasonable price. If you're in the area for longer than 3 days and will need a car, just wait until you actually need it. No need to pay $30+ per day for a car AND almost as much for parking. As much as I like the idea of tourists paying for our convention center and whatever else rental car fees go to, I can't in good faith actually advocate it.
