Booked this PRICELINE EXPRESS Deals well ahead for a stay north of the city. We're splitting our travel between day trips outside and a second leg within the city. Currently looking to book within the city limits. I hadn't planned on securing a hotel so soon but the price was quite attractive and the location suitable so that I took the plunge. Used this link and based on the Priceline list, received the expected location. Amenities: Free breakfast, free parking, free internet, business centre, swimming pool, non-smoking. 8+ rating with over 400 reviews (8.8 on the main page). Total cost in Cdn is $489 which is about $380.

Update: decided to give it a shot thinking the most likely result would be the Coast Gateway. Turned out to be the Coast. Yay. I knew it was a good possiility with PL but wanted to avoid getting the Doubletree with their extra charges for parkig and wifi. The Coast location works better for us as well. Final price was $207.09 Cdn July 26-29. Used the Travelocity link. All in all, we're happy especially since prices seem highish this summer.

I agree about the star rating. While searching it seemed to be a repeated complaint on forums. The HI Express properties, for example, are usually rated 2.5* but 3* on Travelocity. It's why I only used Travelocity's search tool to assure I had their version of 3*.

There's much discussion but little real aggregated info about Travelocity's opaque service. I've used Priceline and Hotwire many times but Seattle seems pricey this summer. I thought I might give Travelocity a go for a short trip to Seattle July 26-29. Their selection is 1-3 star properties. I've tried to approach it with the same strategies as Hotwire's selection but I can't for the life of me figure which hotel it might be. There is a 3* identified as in the Seatac area (though their maps are larger than Priceline/Hotwire) showing breakfast, shuttle, smoke free and Internet. Price is $61 (CDN) plus fees, a bargain this summer. Customer rating is 4 stars with high marks for comfort and cleanliness, though no indication if that is one or a hundred combined ratings. Try as a I might, using those amentities and comparing in a different browser, I cannot nail down the hotel. Selecting only breakfast and shuttle to keep the search broad, four 3* hotels show up as available:the Coast, Holiday Inn and Suites Kent, HI Express Seatacand Springhill Suites. None match the user ratings exactly. I'd be happy with any of them at this price but want to avoid a surprise. Has anyone on the forum used this service in Seattle or can maybe suggest something I've missed? Appreciate the help.

After a bit more research, including a mention of it on Trip Advisor, it seems it might be the Hilton Garden Inn on Caroga Dr. Seems decent, especially at the price though there is a $12/day parking charge.

I'd appreciate some help on an ID. We're travelling to the GTA for a few days, July 9-12. I found a Missussauga hotel, 3* @ $49 night each w/ the following amenities: fitness, pool, restaurant, Internet. We want two rooms w/ 2 adults, 2 kids. It shows 90% recommended. It has a Trip Advisor rating of 4. I checked all the 4 star rated hotels and came up with 10 in total that include several Hilton Garden Inns, a couple of Residence Inns, a Courtyard and a Holiday Inn. All would be fine especially at the price. I had already booked a hotel in Oakville via Hotels.com. My wife and I thought that after a week and a half bedding down with the (teen) kids in room, a few days at the end of the trip with our space would be nice. :) If it helps, it lists the airport as 4.8 miles away. Appreciate the help.

I've been monitoring Hotwire for a couple of weeks but no real changes in options were coming up so I went ahead and took what was showing. The site was glitchy in both IE and Firefox, the maps not aways working, but between the two had narrowed it down to this location. We're in the city during the national holiday and want to be near Parliament Hill (Cdn equivalent of the White House). Now here's the odd thing. The price had been fluctuating by a couple of dollars morning to night as Hotwire will sometimes do. However, the price, checked concurrently, was $2 cheaper with Firefox than with IE. Some kind of conspiracy? :)

I can't help with the specifics of the hotel. I would suggest that a property that has a 75% rejection rate is probably not going to provide a satisfying experience. It's nearly impossible to please everyone. Some travellers take offense at the smallest things. e.g. The hotel only offers shampoo and conditioner in one, not separate. I'll never stay there again! The result ends up being 85 or 90% recommendation rate for a great property. That said, it is easy to displease the majority with poor conditions or service. My advice is to save yourself the poor night's sleep and skip anything with that low a rating.

Judging by the limited number of hotels in the area, my guess that it may be the Holiday Inn Express or Best Western. Both of these offer Internet, breakfast and Internet. There aren't that many hotels in the city. There is also the Franklin Inn that has similar services. Stayed there many years ago. It falls in a similar range to those mentioned. All are in the 2 to 2.5 star range and acceptable for decent basic accomodations. Note that the first two don't have restaurants and fit the 2.5 star report.

Sorry about that. I had forgotton that it was for the Montreal portion of the trip that I had started a thread otherwise I would have bumped it. Amenities included: Shuttle, Business Centre, Fitness Centre, Pool, Internet. Shows as 3*. I tried to edit the title yesterday after posting but wasn't sure on the process. Internet Access is gratis at this hotel BTW. Now to find something for Ottawa.

Booked the second stop on our trip tonight. Used the HOTWIRE link. Pleased with the results. Fewer amenities than some surrounding properties but both Hotwire and Tripadvisor ratings are very positive. At $63/night plus fees it's good value. Still shopping for the Ottawa portion (tentative booking for Toronto but will watch the forums) and will report back when that's done. Now lets hope the Alouettes are playing while we're there.

2 adults/2 kids. I adjusted the stay to July 7 thinking we may want to stay another night in the Montreal area. The latest pricing drops to $59. The Wyndam is listed as a 4* Hotwire property on BB but I've read 3+ is a better and newer description. This is of course if it is that hotel. 3.5* at that price would be a bargain in any case.

Starting our summer vacation plans having snagged some great flight deals. As is usual when traveling with the family, I'm using Hotwire rather than Priceline. July 3-6/10 I can't seem to id this 3.5* property and it doesn't seem to be listed. Amenities include shuttle, fitness, pool, restaurant, business centre, Internet, golf and spa. It rates at a very reasonable $64 a night. Doesn't seem much of a risk at that price other than the drive in. Any help would be appreciated. Did a further check. Based on comments on TripAdvisor, I wonder if this is the Wyndham Montreal Aeroport?

Forget to mention that I did use the board's PRICELINE link to make the booking. To accomodate some additional family for Sunday Aug 23, I made another 1 night booking. I had to go to $55. My experience is that downtown prices are lowest Fri/Sat rising slightly during the week. The opposite can be true in west Edmonton since it sees a fair amount of weekend tourist traffic at that altar of shopping bliss, West Edmonton Mall.

Bid 45 to start and was asked to increase the bid by $13. Rebid twice at $47 and accepted at $50. Prefer the Marriot but was betting this hotel would come up downtown having seen it on the board several times. I'm travelling with family and need the extra beds. This is an all suite hotel. I've stayed there several times. I would rate it a 2.5 but it's perfectly acceptable at this price.

Thanks for the input. Our tentative plans are for a Dec 26 arrival with a departure the following Saturday. I find the algorithms used for providing rooms and pricing interesting. Last night there were half a dozen more returns than this morning. No doubt the number will change again. Is it best in this case to book as early as possible due to the business of the season?

I've had great success using HOTWIRE and PRICELINE over the last few years using (and recommending) this forum. I typically book Priceline when alone or travelling with my wife. I go with Hotwire when on the road with my two kids. I usually found Priceline to be cheaper and more flexibile than Hotwire which raises a question about booking for a family. What's the likelihood of being able to get a two bed or suite unit using Priceline in Orlando? I'm aware of the Priceline small print. I'm forced to travel over Christmas because of work so occupancy will be higher? Any opinions?

Just finished booking what continues to be the best deal out Edmonton. At $51 US, even with the currently poor exchange rate for canucks, this is an excellent hotel for the price. Tried at $49 to begin, rebid at $51 and accepted. If you are travelling to Edmonton other than on business downtown, this hotel is clearly the best value in the city. Clicked off this site's PRICELINE link to book.

Tried booking something on Priceline w/o luck tonight. May try again tomorrow. I'm trying to avoid downtown since this is pleasure rather than business trip and I'd like to avoid the parking costs. The extra $15 - $20 just seems silly when you pay $60-80 for a room. Hotwire has a room at $56 in the south region. Amenities show breakfast, fitness, pool, Internet and golf nearby (but not this time of year :) ). Any ideas on what it might be?

Just a follow-up. After speaking to and then following up with and email to customer service, I later responded to the regular evaluation request sent out after each stay. I provided a detailed description of the hotel's condition and amenities. HOTWIRE sent me a $50 credit on a future purchase. Kudos to Hotwire for a quality response to a poor stay. As I said to them, I have good to excellent stays in the many hotels booked via Hotwire. This was the first that was a major disappointment. I see that they haven't yet changed the amenities list but I was told they were sending an evaluator to check the motel.

Dive. :) I arrived in Minot this evening and wanted to post my impressions before some unsuspecting traveller was subjected to this property or Hotwire's inflated rating. I won't bore you with the details but beyond the 70's era decor, the shabby lobby and small room, this is not a 2 star property. I called Hotwire to express my displeasure and then sent an email. I hope. The wireless is glacial and prone to drops. I hope this come through after 10 minutes of waiting for the page to load. I'm insulted that the booking cost me more than direct purchase. Sad, sad, sad.

Forgot to mention that I did, as always, used the HOTWIRE link. It's not the end of the world that I got this hotel. It's not terrible but it irks to pay more and gain nothing in return. Live and learn.

Got this but was both surprised and unhappy. So much so that I called HOTWIRE. First off, Days Inn doesn't list the business centre so I was sure I wouldn't get Days Inn but one of the other 2* hotels, all of which I would have prefered. The agent called the hotel and indeed they have a computer and fax machine. They have a printer that is "available" for customers. If that may mean a printer in their office a customer may use. It's interesting that today the feature shows up. Additionally, my final price was actually higher than booking directly. For that I loose the flexibility of direct booking. Hotwire's price is $59 while Days Inn is $64 but after fees and taxes, Hotwire is more expensive. Go figure. It's the first time I have really been disappointed with a HOTWIRE purchase. I will be calling Days Inn to confirm their amenities. Amenities - pool, breakfast, laundry, Internet and now... business centre
