  1. Best Western Carriage Inn 5525 Sepulveda Boulevard, Sherman Oaks, CA, 91411 This is just down the street from the Sherman Oaks Galleria and very convenient to the 101 and 405 freeways. Cheesecake Factory and PF Changs restaurants are in the galleria. Amenities: Free Parking Free Internet Fitness Center Pool(s) Restaurant(s) Laundry Facilities (self-service)
  2. I was sort of hoping to get the Radisson as it offers free made-to-order breakfast, but that was not to be. Holiday Inn Select La Mirada 14299 Firestone Blvd., La Mirada, CA, 90638 Amenities: Free Parking Fitness Center Pool(s) Restaurant(s) Business Center Laundry Facilities (self-service) High-Speed Internet Access Accessible for the blind Accessible for the deaf Accessible path of travel In-room accessibility Accessible bathroom Handicapped parking Roll-in shower I have stayed at this hotel before, but it has been several years. Back in the day, this hotel used to offer a nice breakfast buffet to all guests - But no longer. Now only those who book directly through the hotel or their central reservations get the breakfast, and they pay a higher rate for the privilege. A sign of the times, I suppose. I called the front desk to request a non-smoking room. He was very nice and helpful, and also explained the breakfast situation to me. He said a similar room, with breakfast would have cost $99 that weekend...So I really can't complain. Still we got a great rate and are looking forward to a fantastic trip. Jack-In-The-Box has good breakfast sandwiches for under $3. If you want to eat at the hotel, expect to pay $8-10 for breakfast. There is a Red Robin Restaurant at the site. Clearman's Northwoods Inn (steakhouse) is adjacent to this property. There is also an In-N-Out and Elephant Bar Restaurant nearby.
  3. Please correct the title to show the correct spelling of "San Diego" and that this is a 2.5 star hotel. Thx!
  4. I spoke with a Hotwire CSR after booking it to let them know I had a lot of anxiety after reading the reviews. Hotel management was described as hostile on tripadvisor by more than a few people. Hotwire told me to call ASAP if I had any problems and they would move me to a different hotel. Our stay did go better than expected, although this hotel assignment could be difficult for some. We were traveling as a group of 4, so this hotel worked out well for us (one of our kids is staying at Grandmas this week). Groups of 5 are not allowed in one room at this hotel, which is unusual for many CA hotels (we have stayed at many CA hotels). Some places will charge a fee for a roll-away bed, but it has been our experience that most will accommodate families of 5 - especially with young kids. This hotel requires the family to book a second room, and if they do not they are turned away. The hotel will keep the deposit or the entire booking fee (depending on how room was booked). One reviewer on Tripdadvisor said their family was locked out of their room at night because management saw their undeclared 3rd child. A lady I met at the hotel pool lamented that her daughter came to visit her at the hotel (not staying overnight), but was not allowed past the front desk because she had her chihuahua with her. Bottom line: This hotel takes their policies very seriously and enforces them. If you can not happily abide by these policies, do not stay here. Their diligence does work in making the hotel a quiet and well run operation. I came in pessimistic, but left impressed. The front desk people were always kind and helpful to me. They have a big bowl of soft mints on the counter (gratis), which my 8 yr old son never failed to visit when entering/exiting the hotel. At the end of our stay the manager gave him a little bag of mints to take home. Our "low flow" toilet was clogged and they arrived with a plunger in 20 minutes. Housekeeping did clean late in the day (around 4 o'clock), but they did a very good job. The policy of 3 bath towels for 4 guests is annoying, requiring us to request an additional towel. Hotel room was spacious, and even had a foyer area. Room amenities included an in-room safe, refrigerator, wet bar area, and microwave. 2 comfortable queen-size beds were in our room. Parking spaces were very skinny, making parking in the lot difficult with a full size vehicle. Parking is limited to one vehicle per room, but there is NO PARKING FEE. Pool was only 4 feet deep, but was heated and had a shady cabana area available. Pool towels must be obtained at the front desk. Free continental breakfast was pretty good: bagels with cream cheese, toast, mini-cinnamon rolls, danishes, raisin bran and frosted flakes cereal, oatmeal packets, waffle iron with batter, orange and apple juices. Area was kept clean and well-stocked all the way to the end of breakfast time (9:30AM). Hotwire amenities listed: Pool, continental breakfast, high speed internet. This hotel also has a laundry area, but it is not shown as an amenity on hotwire. So if their hotel policies work out for you, this is a nice place to stay. If you require flexibility, this might not be the place for you.
  5. Travelodge 7911 University Ave La Mesa, CA Amenities - Complimentary Breakfast, pool, high speed internet I am NOT happy about this hotel assignment. The Tripadvisor reviews are really bad. Not optimistic.
  6. Brief hotel review: As expected, we had two adjoining rooms. The rooms were small but nice. Soft while comforters, comfortable beds. Good maid service. As a bonus, there was a sink inside the bathroom and a second sink right outide the bathroom in the vanity area. With three ladies in my room, this was much appreciated. No refrigerator or microwave. Free coffee in lobby and a coffee maker in the room. The pool area was a bit of a walk, but the water was well heated. The jacuzzi was quite hot (too hot for me, but others liked it). Pool open until midnight. Free parking. $1 wash and $1 dry in the laundry area (hours: 7am-10pm). On the downside, the rooms were a bit small for two double beds. The table and chairs in the corner of the room actually blocked the adjoining doors and we had to move them a bit and *squeeze* through to get into the adjoining room. This was so inconvenient we often just went around to the front door instead. Also, one of our rooms had very little hot water in the shower, which made two of us use the shower in the adjoining room. Also, that same room had a bathroom door that would not shut and an energy saving light switch that was not working. So basically, one room had problems and the other room was great. Yes, I would stay there again for $38 per room. But the first thing I will do is run the shower to see if it gets hot water. If it doesn't, I will go to the front desk immediately and ask for a different room.
  7. Thank you! This is the lowest price I have ever paid for a hotel in this area. No free breakfast, but FREE PARKING.
  8. This was a surprise as Betterbidding shows this hotel as a 3*. We thought perhaps we were going to get the Mission Valley Resort since the amenities were similar, but got this instead: Ramada Plaza Hotel Circle South 2151 Hotel Circle South San Diego, CA 92108 Amenities: 2.5 star Fitness Center Pool Restaurant High Speed Internet Golf Nearby When I called the hotel to ask if they could put us in adjoining rooms they said it would be no problem since they were only at 50% capacity right now.
  9. Hotwire Four Points Barcela 5990 Green Valley Circle Culver City CA 4/10/09 to 4/11/09 (Friday night) $72 3* Fitness Center Pool Restaurant Business Center I used the proper link from this site to book, of course. Thanks for providing the info I needed to book with confidence!!!
  10. $51 + $11.96 (taxes & fees) = $62.96 1 night only - 2 adults (Only one queen bed in room. I suspect this hotel would have charged extra for a room with two beds.) Extended Stay America Los Angeles - Burbank Airport 2200 Empire Ave. Burbank, California 91504 (818) 567-0952 The only icon shown for this hotel on Hotwire is: *Laundry This hotel is located adjacent to a large outside shopping area. The Great Outdoors, Target, Lowes, Sports Authority, Hometown Buffet, Wendy's, Starbucks, Krispy Kreme, Olive Garden, and other stores are within a short walking distance. This hotel room had a full size refrigerator, a two burner electric stove, a microwave, sink, toaster, some dishes/silverware, pans, and coffee maker in the "kitchenette". We bought pre-cooked bacon, bagels and cream cheese from Target to have for breakfast the next morning. That was convenient. It was okay for a two star. NO POOL. NO SHAMPOO/CONDITIONER PROVIDED. Not bad for a quick overnight trip.
  11. Thank You!!! I am trying to book hotel in OKC and there has been very little current data reported. We were seeking the northwest area, but at $44 per night, may consider the airport area instead. Please be sure to let us know how it worked out. Thanks again!
  12. I used the link at Savingsbarn to book through HOTWIRE. I assumed both links were the same...What is the difference between booking through Savingsbarn and using the link on Betterbidding?
  13. Fitness Center Pool Restaurant Laundry Hi Speed Internet I remembered to book through Savingsbarn.... :)
  14. Here are the amenities: Fitness Center Pool(s) Restaurant(s) Business Center High-speed Internet Access
  15. I heard it is near the north entrance to Port Everglades and is conveniently located near restaurants and shopping (which is good since I won't have a rental car). Others have recommended I dine OUTSIDE the hotel since the food is supposed to be better...
  16. Folks at the Cruisecritic website gave good reviews of the Renaissance Hotel in FLL, so I went ahead and booked that through Hotwire (via the link at Savingbarn, of course). Unfortunately, the price went up from $79 to $83 since last night. I am glad this issue is finally resolved and pleased that I will be staying in a 4* hotel the night before my anniversary cruise. Thank you so much for all your assistance.
  17. I was planning to keep bidding for the beach area until I succeeded.... But I found Hotwire has the 4* Renaissance in downtown FLL for $79... I am thinking about giving up on the beach area and booking that instead. We won't have a car, and the Renaissance is supposed to be close to restaurants/stores and serviced by an affordable public shuttle service... Do you know anything about this hotel?
  18. I began bidding in the $50's, increasing each bid by $2. My most recent rejection was for $73. Try, try again....
  19. Found it!!!! FLL Airport - NORTH. Will bid again when my 24 hour delay is over tonight. Thanks!
  20. Turns out Miramar is my only rebidding option since Pompano Beach now has a 3*. I am so glad I followed your advice and checked. Thanks again.
  21. That was VERY helpful. Thanks! I will figure out my rebidding zones and bid accordingly.
  22. I want to get this as inexpensive as possible, but will ultimately just pay what I have to to stay near the beach. I think the two alternative bid areas are Miramar and Pompano.... I just want to be sure there are no new 3* in those areas because I want to be near the beach and cruise terminal. Are the Priceline hotel star rating lists up to date in these areas? I really appreciate your help.
  23. Our flight arrives at 6:30 in the morning the day before our cruise and we do not plan to rent a car. We would rather hang around the beach area until checkin than the airport area. That is our motivation. I appreciate any suggestions you may have...
