  1. I have the other nights in place for our July Seattle trip using pts./free stays and only needed to pay full price for one night, 7/5. I decided to be a little more aggressive with my bidding since I presume the holiday period around 7/4 through the weekend will be busy.

I used the PRICELINE link to start my bidding. I bid $105.00/4* Seattle Downtown - Pike Place, then $115.00/4* Seattle Airport (SEA), then $120.00/4* Bellevue. $120.00 bid accepted for the Sheraton Seattle (Downtown - Pike Place)...happy with that! Not my favorite Seattle hotel, but fine for the last night of our stay. I believe we have stayed in over fifteen Seattle hotels over the years...we're making the rounds. :)

    Room Subtotal: $120.00

    Taxes & Fees: $26.75

    Total Charged to Card: $146.75

  2. Was this a hotel direct purchase or thru PRICELINE / HOTWIRE?

While perhaps none of the events you listed were large by themselves, collectively all three happening at once may have made this a difficult win.

No, this was a direct purchase through Holiday Inn. As I continued to check the Hotwire rates before our trip, the nightly rate (which I believe was for The Holiday Inn- AUSTIN-TOWN LAKE) never went below the cost of making the reservation directly with the hotel.

I believe you are correct, thereuare ...collectively, a lot of rooms were purchased for these days. There were some "conventioneers" roaming about the city, as well.

  3. When I started this thread, the room in question was going for $148.00, it was a one day sale. Since then, the rate for the same hotel (I believe) has been over $200.00. I believe the hotel is the Holiday Inn.

I checked the UT graduation ceremony schedule and they don't start until after we leave. I dunno'...maybe folks roll into town early for that? Huge university, so lots of people!

    I have back-ups for...

    The Holiday Inn- AUSTIN-TOWN LAKE:

    Sat 5 May 2012 - $190.00 (USD)

    1 room(s)

    Sun 6 May 2012 - Tue 8 May 2012 $171.00 (USD)

    1 room(s)

    Tax: $105.45 (USD)

    Estimated Total Price: $808.45 (USD)

    Residence Inn Marriot:

    Saturday, May 5, 2012 - Wednesday, May 9, 2012 ( 4 nights ) 288.00

AAA rate, AAA membership card required

Estimated government taxes and fees 43.20

Total for stay (for all rooms) 1,324.80 <-----TOO MUCH!! I need to save my money for Europe this summer! I have a lot of Marriot gift cards, but I'm not going to waste them on this. Need to cancel!

DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Austin - University Area:

    Rate Information:

    Rate Type: AAA RATE

    Rate per night: 129.00 USD

    Total for Stay per Room:

    Rate 516.00 USD

    Taxes 77.40 USD

Total 593.40 USD Decent rate, but the location might be a little too far from the action. We prefer to walk or cab it, I don't want to rent a car.

    Total for Stay: 593.40 USD

  4. I ended up not booking this room, but have some backups in place. I will complete the thread before we leave.

I'm curious, though. My husband and I travel to many cities in the USA, but I have never encountered a city where hotel rooms are at such a high nightly rate. Most 3 - 4* rooms are well over $200.00 Is this the norm for Austin? Am I missing something...is something going on during this time? I have been pricing rooms in Austin for well over six weeks. Room rates seem to be going up during our visit dates, rather than falling. I'm glad I have the backups in place.

Any info/experience from others regarding Austin would be much appreciated. Thanks!

  5. I am doing a search for two occupants, the amenities listed are:

Comp. breakfast, fitness center, pool(s), business center, and high-speed internet access

I am thinking it is probably the Holiday Inn Express, which would be nice. We stayed there last May from a Hotwire purchase and it was a satisfactory hotel in a great location. ($80.00 per night in May.) These amenities also fit the Hampton Inn, which would be awesome.

    My question is this:

I've been watching this property for a few days. It jumped in price from $116.00 to $122.00 today. I was hoping it would drop a bit, and then I would make my reservation. Am I dumb to wait? This is the weekend leading into Halloween, so I'm thinking it might be very busy. But I have no idea what goes on in Nashville for that holiday...do they celebrate in a big way like some other cities do? Should I go for it or wait? I do have a backup reservation, which I am getting more apprehensive about...that property has some very unfavorable recent reviews on TripAdvisor.

TIA, any advice would be appreciated! As always, LOVE (and appreciate) your site! :) I do all my searches (and will purchase) through your HOTWIRE link.

Amenities: Airport Shuttle, Fitness Center, Pool, Restaurant and Hi-Speed Internet Access

Going to AZ for Spring Training. I was kind of hoping for a different airport hotel. Oh, well...I am sure the Radisson will be fine. I now need to book a separate reservation for a hotel close by for arrival late Thursday evening, 3/24. When I included 3/24 as my start date, the rates were much higher.

  7. This is the hotel I was hoping for. In the past I have won bids for less on Priceline, but I did not want to take my chance of ending up with the Hotel Phillips. After reading the board, and searching other wins, I was fairly certain this hotel would be the Westin Crown Center....:) Thanks!

Oh, yes...and even happier because the Westin's rates are $200.00+ on most other sites.

    4* Westin Crown Center

Amenities: Smoke Free Rooms, Fitness Center, Pool(s), Restaurant(s), Business Center, High-Speed Internet Access, Spa Services

  8. Reading this thread brought back pleasant memories from a few years back. My husband and I visited Tucson in the spring to see one of our favorite bands. It was the month of May and we walked everywhere, with temps pushing into the mid to high 90s F....lol! Anyway, we visited many restaurants (and bars) in our travels. We dined at El Charro, Mi Nidito and Cafe Poca Cosa. We enjoyed all of them! We took a chance on Cafe Poca Cosa w/o reservations close to opening time, on a Saturday, and we were lucky enough to be seated at the bar. What a fabulous meal...I thoroughly enjoyed it! I real need to go back soon...it was a wonderful trip! I love Tucson.

  9. Thanks for the info. I think you might be correct about the Four Points Sheraton. A couple more properties have come up on Hotwire. One of them being the Jupiter Hotel, I presume. Some really great rates too. I'm itching to make the purchase, but I'm waiting on the okay from husband. I won't be tagging along on this trip. I'd bid on Priceline if I was. I'll be at the Grand Californian at Disneyland. :)

I'll be sure to use the HOTWIRE link and follow up on the board when I make the purchase.

  10. This midscale establishment offers more than just the basics in style, comfort and customer service.

3* hotel, listed as a Best Value at $68.00. The only amenites listed are Restaurant and Business Center. The dates I'm interested in are 11/6/06-11/8/06.

This is for a business trip, trying to stretch one night's lodging fees into two. TIA for any help in identification of the property.

    Hi all --

I'm new to the board. Thanks for all the help and tips on bidding. I will definitely continue to use Priceline by following the link from Savingsbarn.com.

You're all helping me to save a lot of money and my husband is thrilled!! :)

    Thanks again!
