I actually travel to NYC at least seasonally but until recently was either staying upstate and commuting up or staying in airbnbs. I’m doing the hotel thing more these days and looking for deals. Def looking for help. My ideal is $150 all in a day in LIC, my preference is at the Ravel but it recently disappeared from Hotwire’s hot rates. I do have a refundable room booked at the Howard Johnson in LIC.
They gave me $40 so with taxes I still ended up paying $30 for a room with black hair in the bath tub (mine is red), tooth paste splatters and smears down the front of the sink, debris in the bathroom floor large enough to pick up with your fingers - no need for a broom. I am not having the best luck with hotels here and I am a local. Lol. Getting nervous about New York.
To clarify, Hotwire gave me 40 Hot Dollars when I pressed the issues but they wouldn't even review my photos which I think would make a difference.

This place was awful. I do not recommend. Do not trust the high ratings, my room was filthy and my keys didn't work on the external doors just to name a couple of problems. Pool is also out of order.

Unlisted amenity - parking garage. Excellent location but I wasn't particularly impressed with the hotel despite its outstanding reviews. The AC was very loud and the hotel was rundown. They're going for a historical feel but it doesn't feel that way. It feels like a weird outdated hotel with random weapons in glass cases as decor. You also cannot access the parking garage without going to the ground floor and walking next door to it - there is no hotel access despite that there is hotel only parking in the garage. It doesn't make sense to me that they wouldn't have a way for hotel guests to access the hotel from the garage with the same key card they had to use to get to the parking area.
Just my thoughts. Excellent location but I've stayed in dozens of better hotels for much less.

I recommend looking into Queens or Brooklyn for nicer hotels with excellent views at a less steep price. The subway can get you anywhere quickly.
That said, you're unlikely to find something that fits your specifications in that budget.
Well I got lied to then. Lol

I did also get free breakfast for joining the Hyatt loyalty program at check in and the breakfast was pretty good too.
It was a lovely stay at the Hyatt Place.
I'm flying into LaGuardia at like 9 am and I have some friends in the LIC area which is part of the reason I like to stay there particularly. Flying from Kansas, only spending a couple days in the city then taking a commuter train to the Hudson Valley area for a few days. Have an airbnb in the mountains there. Never stayed in Jersey before or used PATH and a little uncomfortable with it being iffy on missing last train for the evening. I take a lot of comfort knowing LIC is a $10 uber from Manhattan if necessary.
Also I am taking my 14 year old son for the first time as well.
I apologize, I missed the question at the end. 4 Star in LIC. I have booked it before and got the Ravel and it appears to still be the Ravel although I'd be happy with any of the 4 stars within the footprint. I would love to stay there again with my teenage son. Basically my ideal is to stay at the Ravel for $300 or less for 2 nights (September 11 & 12) but will end up staying the nicest place in the area that we can afford if it isn't doable.

Hello all, I have only just discovered the site at the end of last week. I have booked a couple of Hot Rates recently and was happy with the results which I will share to help the next.
I typically just want to be somewhere safe and clean but this trip I will have my teenage son along so I don't want to wait too long and have to stay somewhere not so great or pay a lot not to have to. I stayed in April on a Thursday night, booked about 5 weeks out and ended up paying about 160 for my one night including taxes and fees which I was satisfied with. Watching my top choice drop in price in the same fashion as when I was watching previously. Last time I booked only to watch the rate fall further. My prior stay was during Tribeca and the Cherry Blossom Festival so I don't know how that compares to September in NYC as my last trip was the last time I got a hotel room in the city instead of heading straight upstate.
With the taxes and fees, hotels in the 160 range are still about $430 for two nights so I am hoping for advice as to whether I should relax and wait a little longer or pull the trigger.
Thank you in advance

Need helping finding a room accessible to LaGuardia after 11 pm on 9/10. My son and I can save a lot of money to switch flights and fly out early but want to find reasonable accommodation. Don’t want to be more than $150 all in. We are staying in the city 9/11-13 also so if we can find something $150ish all in for all 3 days I’d be in for that but I have a refundable rate reserved while I watch for those dates and specifically looking for somewhere to crash when we get in now
