  1. Do you have an Entertainment Card? There's a Holiday Inn Select - Convention Center for $44.50. Looks nice on the web site (as best one can tell). Not to dissuade you from using Priceline, but sometimes other options are better. I only know about this because my mother asked me to get a room for her recently in Bakersfield.
  2. Just a note for all of you who are hoping for the Hyatt when using Hotwire and going for the 3.5* in the Disneyland South zone. There was no laundry icon showing, which in the past has been the differentiating factor. Icons were: Restaurant, pool, fitness center & business center. I'm a Priceline fan myself and had tried bidding about a week ago then again today up to $48 and was rejected. When I factored in the Entertainment rebate + giftcard06, my Hotwire price was less than $10 more than what I couldn't get on PL. Earlier in the week the Hotwire rate was $64; since this is Easter vacation and the weather is looking better, I'm guessing the rates are going up. Anyway, we will survive at the Crowne Plaza and look wistfully at the Hyatt across the street. They lowest Hyatt rate was $149 and Crowne Plaza $119 (on their respective web sites).
  3. While the Westwood Doubletree doesn't have the action-packed Hollywood location of the Hyatt, it is a much nicer (classier) hotel. Rooms, furnishings, decor, etc. at the Doubletree are very nice (I've stayed there but not via PL).
  4. I knew some day all my old receipts would come in handy--to go down memory lane! This was from Feb. 2002, the good old days. $28 for the Residence Inn in Anaheim, by Disneyland. Given a 1 bedroom upstairs suite (2 beds in the bedroom + sofabed), full kitchen, living room with fireplace, dining room, balcony overlooking the pool. Free parking right below the room, free shuttle to Disneyland, free breakfast for everyone. Even at that time the room went for $179. Sadly, we don't see this property coming up on PL any more.
  5. dahammer, you might gently mention to the sister who encountered poor service and an attitude at the Luxor that this is the norm in Vegas. I've stayed in quite a few of the hotels and to be honest I don't recall one where they were what I'd call even "nice". Apathetic is about as good as you get; helpful would be an exception rather than the rule. I can only guess that it's because they deal with so many people. The way the rates and prices have climbed over the years in Vegas, it's rather annoying--the attitude that they're doing you a favor. So when I go, that's one city where I don't anticipate pleasantries.
  6. I've been anxious to try this relatively new-to- the-area Hyatt. The date is Super Bowl Sunday so will take my mom for a ladies day/night out. I've read there are antique stores, which she enjoys, within walking distance. Lowest price on the Hyatt site is $107 AAA rate. I started at $50 and got a counteroffer to add $14. Upped it $1 and used Sonoma as a free rebid.
  7. First tried for 4* (seems like a new option for this zone) up to $75 but couldn't get it. Very familiar with this zone and that I could most likely get a 3* for $37; so decided a 4* wasn't worth paying such a difference for 2 nights. Have received this hotel many times on weekends and thought I might get the Marriott across the street since this is a Tues-Wed stay. But the St. Claire came through.
  8. Has anyone had more than 1 rebate accepted with the same Entertainment Card? Just curious. Also, I can confirm that yes they will include taxes and fees to reach the $95 level. At first I received an e-mail that said my rebate was denied (didn't specify why), then 2 minutes later was an e-mail stating my rebate had been processed. I paid $88 plus $14.95 taxes & fees.
  9. I believe the subject line needs to be changed--this win is for the Hyatt in Newport Beach. By the way, I just had a quick stay there (not via PL but a Hyatt free night) and the hotel is very nice. Rooms were refurbished recently and they've done an excellent job--I highly recommend. I would be happy with winning either Hyatt in this zone now.
  10. You are brave! Can't wait to read your review . . . Welcome back to California!
  11. From the description, this has to be the Hyatt SJC (Airport) not the Downtown Hyatt St. Claire which does not have a pool nor rooms with sliding glass doors.
  12. Well, I never thought I would be posting to the Hotwire board because I'm a diehard PL fan. My experience is PL is almost always the way to go. Not this time with the $30 Entertainment refund. I've been trying for 3-4 weeks to get this hotel via PL. Bid up to $67 on PL when Hotwire showed a rate of $166 (lowest Hyatt.com rate is $179). Booked a cancelable backup at a Best Western for approx $70 total. Yesterday Hotwire lowered their rate to $88 so I thought for sure I'd get it on PL, but no go up to $57. So off I went to Hotwire who came through ($102.95 total) and I've sent in my $30 rebate form. Many thanks to the posters on the board regarding this topic--I printed out the PDL form so I don't have to cut up my book and hopefully can get another $30 in the future. Icons were as posted: Restaurant, pool, fitness center, golf, tennis, business ctr - Customer Favorite. The comments are different now, but when I read them they mentioned it was right on the golf course, beautiful grounds, but far from other things--that's the Hyatt. I've stayed here quite a few times for $47 on PL. I think the term customer favorite is a stretch--compared to what? But it's a good deal for the location on a Fall Saturday night.
  13. One of my least favorite Hyatts but it beats driving to the airport at 5 a.m. Tax & fees was $11.20. If my math is right, PL is making $7.50 on their s/c as tax for this hotel is 10%. I guess PL has decided to slip this increase in on us. I noticed on a different (failed) bid the tax/fee listed went up over $1 within a few days for the same bid amount, same zone. Now I have to stop and take time to think, is PL still the best option. Usually the answer is yes, but not always.
  14. PL Disneyland zone now includes Garden Grove--anyone bidding for Disneyland should be aware of this bad move on PL's part. No hotels in Garden Grove are on BB's list so no changes are necessary in that regard. I doubt too many people had a need to bid the Garden Grove zone other than to use it as a free rebid (I believe the * level formerly went up to 2 or 2.5). But bidders should be aware when bidding now for Disneyland or Anaheim Convention Center they could get a hotel that's waaaaay far away. I predict PL is going to have a lot of upset customers if very many receive a hotel that's by Brookhurst and the 22 Fwy when they were looking for something by Disneyland, as the zone name suggests.
  15. From SFO take BART (located in the international terminal). Get off at the Embarcadero station, the hotel front door is just steps away from the BART entrance/exit escalator. They've raised the 1-way fare to $4.95 now, but it's still the best way to go. Shouldn't be a problem with suitcases either. The "in-room refreshment center" is the honor bar--you know a small refrigerator with $3 Cokes, candy bars, chips, etc. If you move one you'll get charged, but they obligingly take it off your bill if you say you didn't consume it. Enjoy your stay, I really like this Hyatt and it is in an excellent location, don't pay attention to anyone that says otherwise.
  16. Thanks for the tip--I just ordered one today, last day of the promos! Hopefully, the order date will count as the purchase date. Seems like a super deal--we needed a new fax, don't have a scanner, and the 5-year-old DeskJet is slow. For $28 how can you not get it . . .
  17. Yes, I kind of winced when I saw your post. I've been getting the $54.50 rate for lots of Saturdays in July and August. With tax it comes to about $60. I also got a $99 Entertainment at the Grand Hyatt in Union Square for a Sat. night. These are the only 2 Hyatts in the Bay Area that have Entertainment rates. Yes, it feels strange to be able to cancel them last minute if need be!
  18. I thought I might be able to get this for a little less since the lowest rate via Hyatt is $79 for my date. But no such luck, was rejected at $35. Only 1 free rebid so you can't lowball it too much. Still a 50% savings.
  19. OK, my least favorite Hyatt in the chain but it's a Hyatt and we love 'em. Started at $35, got a counter offer for $9, added the only free rebid and got it for $37.
  20. I'll piggyback on your post, I also got this date but at $34 (bid on 6/17). Meant to post the win but got sidetracked. Today's bid but for a different (September) date cost me $35, too.
  21. Add me to the Hyatt club (except I already belong to the club). Need an airport hotel for an early a.m. flight. I do love this hotel and especially at this price!
  22. Recently had a 1 night stay here for an early morning flight (paid $31 on PL). The first shuttle to SFO leaves at 4:30 a.m., plus there was complimentary coffee in the lobby. Noticed lots of airline employees staying here. I have stayed more times than I can count at the Hyatt SFO, so was interested in comparing the Doubletree. The room was similar--business-chain hotel style, clean and comfortable. We had no problem with any noise (room faced an inner courtyard). Ate a light dinner in the restaurant and the food was good and reasonably priced (there didn't appear to be any other restaurant options within walking distance). This hotel is more "mellow" and quieter than the Hyatt; DT lobby is much smaller than the Hyatt and only one restaurant. For those who might care, there is no swimming pool at the DT. Front desk said you can use the pool at the Red Roof Inn across the street. Of course no HHonors points or acknowledgment but we at least we got the chocolate chip cookies; front desk staff was to-the-point, business-like, and brusque. Something that might be important to others, I wasn't thinking and gave them my check debit card at check-in rather a normal credit card. Since the room was prepaid and I didn't think much about it. After I left and checked my bank account online later, I was surprised to see they put a $270 hold on my card. How much damage did they think I was going to do? Lesson learned, remember to always use credit card.
  23. WillTravel: I've been meaning to say thanks a bunch for this! We're stayng 6 nts at 3 hotels now. What can I say, I like to check out new places plus the stay credit doesn't hurt! Got my $100 room for a Sunday in May.
  24. I book probably 75% of my stays via PL, but for this property I used GP points. I had numerous problems with the front desk along with other problems. The worst of which I was assigned a room that shared a common wall with the bank of elevators. It took us awhile to figure out what the noise was--thunder, jets landing? This was in the older tower because I'm Diamond and that's where Regency Club is located. I know someone else who stayed via PL and when he arrived at 10:30 p.m. they said they'd cancelled him (they did eventually find him a room but with a lot of hassle). When you first enter the hotel, the lobby is so grand you have high expectations. It seems like this property may have customer service issues no matter what your method of payment. When you're only spending one night there, you sure don't want to spend a lot of time complaining about things. For a PL rate, I guess I could just shrug it off. But there's no way I'd stay and pay their regular rates. However, for the record, the majority of Hyatts treat you like royalty even on PL and award stays. Interesting that the front desk clerk has access to info that says all your Hyatt stays are via PL . . .
