  1. We just stayed at the Marriott in Clearwater Florida from March 7-9, 2013. The hotel is by the airport. We paid $55.00 per night. It was a good stay at a good price!
  2. Sorry that I did not add that we are staying at the Hilton in Downtown Atlanta.
  3. Clicked on this site first to access PRICELINE. Submitted a bid for 57.00 per night and it was accepted. Total with taxes and fees comes to $139.24. We plan on attending the Braves/ Phillies game. Go Phillies!
  4. I just went through PRICELINE to get the following price for a car rental in Austin Texas from December 23 till 28th. Initially I was going to bid 10 dollars a day but priceline said that it was too low and that the bid probably wouldn't be accepted but that I had a good chance bidding at 18 dollars. So, I bid 15 dollars a day and it was accepted! Now, next time I will probably go lower than 15 dollars a day. I then decided to upgrade for a dollar more to an intermediate car. So, the breakdown was: 16 dollars a day for 5 days and 10.5 hours-$80.00 taxes and fees were $53.95 Total: $133.95 And, I did use the PRICELINE link here before I started. Hope that this info is useful to others.
  5. On the flight on the 22nd, there is a 45 minute layover. On the flight on the 29th, there is a 50 minute layover. Both are short, I know!
  6. On July 16th, I booked the following trip through priceline: Departure date: July 23 Savannah to San Antonio Return date: July 29 San Antonio to Savannah First bid (should have been lower!) $200.00 plus $37.45 for tax. So, the total for the trip is $237.45. This is extremely low since AA's price was $928.00 for a 74% savings! Was accepted! Itinerary: Leave SAV at 1:00 pm. Arrive in SAT at 4:20 pm with a layover in Dallas. Return: Leave SAT at 3:55 pm. Arrive SAV at 9:25 pm with a layover in Dallas. I should have booked earlier and lowered my price a bit but I'm still very happy with the results. There is hope!
  7. For us, since my husband is retired it's 50 dollars a person. Thus, it would be 100 dollars a night for the two of us. They do not charge any tax so the total would be 500 dollars for five nights. I've been inside the club once but not in the bedrooms. It's pretty spartan from what I can tell but the price just seems so good. What are your thoughts?
  8. Thank you for the ideas. Have any hotels been identified with a 2.5 star rating with Priceline? I agree that a hotel that is not identified and is a 2 star might be a little risky. A possibility for us could be the Soldiers', Sailors', Marines' and Airmen's Club at 283 Lexington Ave (between 36th and 37th St.). The rates are reasonable but the bathrooms and showers are shared. Do you think that it's a good location?
  9. We are planning a trip to New York from April 8th till April 13th. We would like to stay in MTW, MTE, UM-CPS, or Times Square. Other areas of New York are also a possiblilty as well as staying in New Jersey, if need be. We would like a three star or possiblily a two star but I haven't read about any two stars in New York. We would like to keep the budget under 1,000 dollars for all five nights. We are flying into and out of LaGuardia. Any suggestions?
  10. About a month or so ago, we won the Marriott at Fisherman's Wharf for 82.00. We just decided to add two more nights to the trip so I bid 82.00 again. This time we have the Hyatt at Fisherman's Wharf. I went through SavingsBarn and this is how it worked out: Hyatt Fishermans Wharf November 18-November 20. $82.00 per night taxes 32.38 total with taxes $196.38.
  11. Went through SavingsBarn to Priceline. Dates: November 17, 2007 with checkout on the 18th. Won: 3 star Marriott Fisherman's Wharf 1250 Columbus Avenue Winning price: $82.00 plus 19.36 tax. Total: $101. 36 Looked at the website and found that parking was 40 dollars! Any suggestions?
  12. This hotel looks and sounds great! Was it listed on Hotwire as a four or a four and a half star hotel? I'm checking SF now and see a 4 star at $99 dollars and a 4.5 star at $109.00 dollars. I'm wondering if this could be the Parc 55 at $99.00.
  13. I hope that I follow the proper procedure and post the follow up to this trip. I ended my bidding for a four star in either Ft. Lauderdale at the beach and the Plantation area. I then placed a bid for a three star at the beach or the Plantation area. Priceline accepted the offer and placed us at the Las Palmas Hotel and Suites which is at 3003 North University Drive at Sunrise.
  14. Sorry, the dates are from May 25th through May 28th. Basically, Memorial Day weekend. I'm just wondering if that it a problem or not. I am looking for either a three or four star at Ft. Lauderdale. I'm not familiar with the area and since it's a graduation, I'll need to look to someplace for a dinner after the graduation. Thus, I would like to have a three or four star that hopefully has a restaurant. I hope to pay not more than 125 a night.
  15. My daughter is graduating on May 27th (Sunday of Memorial Day weekend) in Sunrise Florida. We are not very familiar with the area and we are thinking of staying in either Ft. Lauderdale or Hollywood for a three night stay. I am looking for a room perferably either a three or four star for about 125 a night. I've received emails from hotwire lately about price dropping at that time. Has anyone bid in that area lately and won a four star hotel at a good price?
  16. I bid and won an offer for the airport in Philly with only about three days in advance. I believe that I won the Marriott, which I hear was very nice, for about 60 dollars. I booked the trip for my husband and did not go but it was on Labor Day weekend and that also is a busy time. He had a car with him so he could get around. I believe that they charged him for parking, though. All in all I bid and received the Marriott for 60 dollars a night during a holiday weekend. You might even do better! Enjoy your stay in Philly! I grew up there so if you need any additional help, I'll try to steer you in the right direction.
  17. I'm planning a trip to Atlanta with my husband and two small children ages 6 and 3. Does anyone know where to stay and what would be a decent price for a hotel in Atlanta? Thanks!
  18. Thanks for your help in this matter. We did go to New York on those dates and the hotels were incredibly expensive. We stayed at a friends house in White Plains, NY and took the train into the city. We were very lucky to do that. Would still like to stay in NYC sometime but will definately pick a time that isn't so expensive!
  19. My daughter is planning on doing a medical school rotation in south africa in april. She will have to pay for her flight to do this work. Does anyone have any ideas how to seek a good price for a flight going over there? We live in Savannah, GA but we could fly out of Jacksonville Fl or Atlanta if need be. Thanks for any and all help for this topic.
  20. Thank you for the idea about staying in New Jersey. We just might do that because of the extremely high prices in New York. I was just wondering, do you think that rates will drop just before our stay. I'm thinking that they won't since they seem able to command such a high price.
  21. I am planning a trip to NY next week and would like to stay in NYC in either MTE or MTW on December 7th or the 8th. Would love a 4* but would accept a 3*. Is there a way to stay in the city during that time under 300 dollars a day? Any and all advice would be appreciated.
  22. Don't feel so bad. I did a first bid of $60 and it was accepted and I thought that I was doing good. That is until I learned about this site. Live and learn, I guess.
