  1. Looking for at least a 3* of this 1 night or perhaps 2. Can you help me out with what i should start my bidding at? Is it a pretty quiet time for NYC? TIA!
  2. 2.5* Courtyard Airport and Cruise Port (400 Gulf Stream Way) 2.5* Springhill Suites 2* Springhill Suites (now Stirling Suites... not yet reported as priceline participant) Could you please explain the discrepancy - are the springhill suites 2.5 or 2*? what are my chances getting the 2.5* one if it exists? i don't mind the courtyard, but i'm not sure about the reviews on the springhill suites.....
  3. So what do you recommend thereuare? Should I up my bidding on priceline to 70? What are my chances? Or do the offers on priceline look good? Which 3* on hotwire is a priceline 2.5*? maybe i should shoot for that?
  4. Just checked hotwire. in fll airport, offering 3* - comp bkfst, laundry, fitness. bus ctr, hi speed int (i am thinking this is either sheraton or hilton)$79 3.5* - all above, plus tennis crt nrby, restaurant $92 (the sheraton?) 2.5* - pool, bus ctr, hi speed int - what is this?? $59 I am just wondering why my bids were not accepted when these figures are pretty low? i am asking for a 3* at 60, why is that not ok when hotwire is offering that at 79??? Help!
  5. Just tried both 55 and 60, both rejected. Help! Should I wait a bit and then try those figures again, or if they were rejected now, that's the way it will stay? I really don't want to pay much more than that.... Any advice?
  6. I just realized, free re-bid zone is Miramar. I bid 45 and then 50, both rejected. What would you advise from here?
  7. I did try on Friday starting at 41, that was rejected. I will try again today at 45, though i didn't notice a few re-bid zone with no 3*, which one is it? THanks for your assistance i will keep you posted on the progress.
  8. Max bid would be around 50-60, I guess providing it doesn't require more to get a 3*. I would ideally prefer either the Sheraton or Hilton, both 3*, is the 2.5* Courtyard decent? If yes, perhaps I would consider that, but probably not unless desperate.
  9. Need bidding assistance for a 1 night stay near FLL airport. Early morning flight back. 8/28 through 8/29. How much is it reasonable to start at?
  10. Ideal zones MTE or MTW (is Times Square now a sep zone?) I am wary as there seem a few bad apples mixed into the MTW hotels or am i mistaken. Max budget ideally 130 although I know its not really all that realistic. Is there a cheaper decent option? All the 3* seem nearly as expensive as the 4*, only about 20-30 cheaper. Sunday night is not really an option, is it much cheaper?
  11. This is a great hotel in the middle of all the action by Grand Central Station. The rooms are pretty small, but the lobby and ambience is real New York City. Enjoy!
  12. Sorry it took me a while to post my reply. :) The other time i tried i wasn't allowed to post only read. My ideal date is 2/27-2/28/08. If you think Wed are not the optimal day I could bring it forward a day or two. I would greatly appreciate any input. Many thanks.
  13. I am looking for a 3* NYC, not really wanting to pay 4* prices this time. Any advise, there don't seem that many 3* wins. Any help is appreciated.
  14. is there any street parking nearby? we are considering a stay either here or in NYC shortly. thanks.
  15. Anyone had any experience bidding in Rehoboth Beach area. There is nothing on this website, and i know its not a really popular priceline destination. any tips would be greatly appreciated!
  16. I've learned the hard way, got a massive ticket (150) for not doing it the right way and just parking with the hotel. boy was i a little mad. do i have a hope of fighting it, i sure will try. my advice - don't bother trying to find street parking, its not worth the ticket!
  17. Thank you for all your help. I apologize for not writing this earlier, I honestly haven't had an earlier chance. We ended up going for Inn and Nichols Village (very nice!), got it at $50 a night Ithink bec i bid so late and there was PGA tournament in the area for one of my nights. I tried 45 rejected, so then tried 50 and scored. Once again I forgot to use the Savings Barn, bong, bang me on the head, I deserve it :) ! Thanks again for all patience and assistance, you sure beat TTOB!
  18. I haven't had tonnes of experience. I have only travelled three times with children. 1) Grand Hyatt Buffallo - 3 years ago, the late night front desk upgraded us to the presidential suite when i mentioned it was our first anniversary. it was phenomenal, i won't even start describing it.... 2) Wyndham Franklin Plaza, now a Sheraton 2 years ago. I paid a for 2 rooms and checked in around 7-8pm, there were no connecting rooms so we ended up all sleeping in the 1 room, pretty dumb but no choice. 3) last week we stayed at clarion, cherry hill NJ, i booked 2 rooms and now that i got smart i called up that morning to reserve connecting rooms. they were very nice and did so. we had a wonderful stay in no small part due to the connecting rooms. so i guess where you can try and call before, even before bidding when you know which hotel(s) you have a good chance of getting, if you ask nicely you never know. they even gave us a pack n play at no extra charge too. i guess it doesnt hurt to have the cute kids themselves hang around at check in time!!! :) good luck to all. hope this helps.
  19. I think attitude has a lot to do with it. I usually check in without my husband and try to get a male. I smile and am friendly and easygoing, a little chitchat doesn't hurt. I don't mention priceline and have never had it mentioned specifically to me, aside from a side comment some odd times. I have used priceline over 10 times, lost count actually. Definitely don't go in with an attitude, and if there is something you don't like about the room do something about it, nicely. We stayed at the Hyatt Grand Central NYC 3 wks ago, for 1 night. I mentioned to the clerk that it was out anniversary and was there anything he could do for us. He kindly upgraded us to a junior suite. when i called down later from the room to ask for a fridge and was advised of a charge, i said that i was not told this when i asked about it at checkin, the clerk told me rather snottishly that there was esp seeing that i had booked through web. I said well actually the room is pretty dirty/dusty (which it really was) and i was prepared to overlook it if they would provide a fridge at no charge. which after checking with the supervisor they promptly did! if you need to say, say it nicely, firmly and to the point. One other point it pays to do your homework. By this I mean call up the hotel a few nights before, find out how full it is, which of the rooms were recently renovated (they are usually better) and what is available. this way when you come to the front desk and they try and put you in a "priceline" room you know what to ask for. we stay recently at inn at nichol's village in clarks summit pa. I had called up and found out that the applewood and presidential rooms were the most recently renovated. they gave us a chestnut room, non-smoking. when i got there it reeked of smoke, i called and nicely told them this, they said come back to the front desk and assigned us a different room, all the time i was asking for an applewood room (i didn't hope for the presidential!) finally i got the applewood when i said could i have it for th 1st night and if need be i would move for the 2nd, which never happened. applewood rooms are much much nic.er hope this helps a little good luck all priceline bidders
  20. I am a newbie to Better Bidding, but not to Priceline. I have been using Priceline for over 3 years, probably close to 4 actually. I had always used TTOB for help, never posting but just checking out what others had bid for zones I was trying to get. Only recently did I join up. I had noticed that the amount of new posts had seriously dropped off since 2003, and alot of the info was very OLD. I guess now I know the reason why! :) I am enjoying Better Bidding immensely. Great layout, helpful moderator, and the hotel maps are very very cool to use. thank your Better Bidding and honestly I just feel bad for Sheryl, she really is the one losing out, not us. Although I guess I haven't received any special emails for her, so I can't really talk. BTW, she is not really answering posts on TTOB now, seems that personal issues are keeping her too busy. That is what lead me here initially. I needed help, so glad to have found it here. I did post one winnign bid here but forgot to use the SavingsBarn link? will i be penalised if i do it again, i' m not asking in an accusing way, just curious. thanks again and keep up the great work BB! :)
  21. just 2 more questions if i could: 1) any tips for trying to figure out which hotel hotwire if offering? this area doesn't really feature on the hotel list. 2) do hotwire prices usually go down as time goes by, ie, as it gets closer to my dates?
  22. thank dahammer. i did check out hotwire, goes rate for a 3* seems to be in 80 range. what would you start your priceline bidding at, if it were you. thanks so much.
  23. It is a very nice hotel. There is cheap street parking out front. Rooms are pretty good and you got a great price.
  24. how much more would you expect. do i match hotwire price closely? how does hotwire serve as an indicator? thanks for your help. after calling the hotels yesterday seems regular price between 75-125.
  25. Thanks for the info FBNY. Any ideas for cheaper parking, I hate to throw away so much on just parking! Should I try street parking or another garage for cheaper, I wouldn't even care to take a taxi for 10 bucks and park else where for less. After reading so many bad reviews of the Hyatt I am still a little nervous, but am glad to hear you ha d a nice stay, any tips for check in, how to ask for and get a nice/better room. thanks.
