I didn't book with either hotel. I was going to book the 2.5* was Mammoth Creek Inn, but I saw a $17.10/night resort fee (which confirmed Mammoth Creek Inn). The service and hotel resort fees made the price/night higher than many of the local condos.

Thanks for the help. We ended up staying with friends, and not using any of these hotels, priceline or hotwire.

Just a follow-up from this visit -- The Hapuna Beach Prince Hotel amenities list "Self-service laundry" but when we got to the hotel, there was no self-service laundry. I complained to Hotwire. Basically, they give you 2 options -- 1. Hotwire can cancel your reservation without any fees. (Not a good option if we are already there and checked-in), 2. $50 Hot-dollars for future Hotwire booking. They would not apply credit to existing booking or give me money back.

I was watching this for a while on Hotwire. It was at $155/night on Hotwire in 2nd half of May. Then, on May 29th, it dropped to $127 and stayed there. Since the price drop happened in end of May, I wonder if it was due to hotel not getting enough rooms booked by end of May? I was also interested in Marriott or Hilton Waikoloa, but at the $127/n price, I think Hapuna Beach is a very good deal. On Priceline, a 4* hotel at Waikoloa was $162/night. Hotels.com was offering Hapuna Beach Prince Hotel at $208/night for same dates. (~40% savings) I was going to wait another month, or even to see if Hotwire was going to have discounts for Father's Day (like they did for Mother's day), but I had a sinking feeling the low price might not last long. $126/night. Won via Priceline. Amenities listed: Indoor/Outdoor pool, Restaurant, Fitness Center, Free Wifi, Guest Score of 7 or higher Bid over several days: tried $110, then $120.
