  1. Hello, I didn't see much action in regards to getting a hotel in South Beach, Miami. Is this going to be difficult? We are thinking of going in February. Any input would be greatly appreciated! By the way, when does spring break start? Does anyone know? Thanks, DMC
  2. Oops, sorry, I saw "termini" and I immediately thought of terminal, like in airport. I'm just getting my coffee now. Sorry I'm not with it yet and thanks again and I just asked a repetitive question. DMC
  3. Thank you. What about doing Priceline and just staying near the train station? Would that be easy to do and can easily walk to the train? I could do Rome West for that, right? I'm just trying to avoid 200 bucks a night for a lousy room just to get up early and leave again. The Marriott Courtyard is 200 bucks PLUS they want to charge us each 7 euros to take us to the airport which is a lousy two miles or so. The Hilton is outrageously pirced too. Thanks, I'll check out that Kennedy in the meantime
  4. Forgot to ask, and I know this isn't Hotwire -- or is it? Yes, they have HOTWIRE Rome West. Would that work? I've e-mailed them but they're of no help. Thanks, DMC
  5. thanks so much. My husband keeps asking, "Why are you doing so much research?" DUH! First sign of trouble over there, and he's going to deal with it. Thanks, DMC
  6. Hello, We have decided not to stay at the airport the night before our flight and have decided to do Priceline or Hotwire instead and stay near the train station where we can easily walk there with out luggage. Can someone help me please with what area this is called or any other suggestions? Thanks, DMC
  7. Hello, Please help. I'm exhausted just from doing research on this trip before I even go! I would like some help in what region I click on for the Rome airport. We need just one night there since our flight is leaving early A.M. Thanks, Denise Does anyone know who is partcipating and what we should bid? May be another post, but trying to kill two birds with one stone.
  8. I bought some of those certificates off of Skyauction.com for the Fish Club in Seattle at the Marriott waterfront. The food was lousy, the service was lousy and it was really expensive and not worth it at all. I would steer clear of that Todd English Fish Club. Seattle is full of great restaurants for way less.
  9. thank you, MY neighbor is going to Italy for the month of october and he uses vbro.com. Although, I don't think we're staying anywhere for a week and the travel agent has go to make her money, per the free trip, so I'm trying to figure out what is Priceline and Hotwire and then she can book those rooms. We've changed our plans to include Venice, Florence, Rome, Amalfi Coast for two weeks or more. Arriverderci, Only one of few words I know, DMC
  10. Thanks everyone. Although I appreciate the congrats and helpful hints I was hoping to get more info. I will check out the sites you recommended. Thank you. DMC
  11. :) Hello, I won a trip for two to Italy last Sat. in NYC at a convention. The itinerary I have is six nights at the Duke Hotel in Rome, a four-star hotel. I can expand the trip at my desire. I just called someone from Italy and they suggested four nights in Rome, One night Sorrento, One night Amalfi, One night Positano, and Three nights Capri. I really don't like moving around that much as far as one night. I can deduct some of my Rome nights and add them elsewhere. I would just rather pick the places instead of the travel agent. SHe is trying to convince me of a tour, which I'm not interested in doing. Probably because she gets more commission. I have a budget of five grand that I've won for the trip - pretty good, huh? I don't want to insult the people who awarded the trip, since I will be working for them as an independent contractor, and would love to stay at the Duke Hotel in Rome. It sounds lovely. I notice Priceline only does Rome. I'm just going to stick to the southern part of Italy this time and next time we go back visit the North. So any suggestions on great rooms at a great rate would be greatly appreciated! Or any suggestions whatsoever! I've never been over on that side of the Atlantic. Thanks!
  12. Loved the Barclay. Felt like we hit the jackpot getting this room for 140. Everything was great and we couldn't have asked for a better deal. There is free coffee with a coffee pot in the room. Someone posted you had to pay for the coffee out of the mini bar and that's not so. I would definitely stay there again. It's way nicer, in my opinion, than those huge hotels. Loved it! Thanks Priceline!!! :)
  13. Oh, yes, Business Center. So restaurant, business center, fitness center. How could I forget! Instead of getting out my notebook computer, I just wanted to look something up real quick and they wanted seven bucks for 15 minutes. DMC
  14. Thank you fpr the suggestions. Sounds like I got lucky bidding today compared to others. I sure did get joy out of cancelling the Hilton. Put that in your pipe and smoke it!!! :) This is all worth the savings, the time, the effort. Thanks, all
  15. Sorry, it wasn't a Fri. and Sat. it was June 7, 8, 2006 and that is Wed. and Thurs. It was on Wacker Drive. I couldn't remember the street. Amenities, I believe, were fitness center, restaurant and maybe one other thing, but I don't recall. Hope this clears things up better. DMC
  16. Hello, Gagnee, thanks for the info. Yes, the review site was very helpful and now I will bring my own coffee with me. What links are you talking about? Yes, we have a priority club card but no Visa. I started at 130 MTW, then added MTE and put 140. I didn't want UM/CPS, nor did I want to mess around with trying to save a few dollars. It's not that big of a deal. Do you have any suggestions on parking? I think I just saw that the parking was 45 bucks a day. We are thinking of taking the train from New Haven, New London or whatever point is best, but I haven't researched the costs involved versus driving/parking. I did see you can park at Harrison, NY for free or five bucks a day, but don't know anything about that. Since you go there a lot, do you have any dinner suggestions? Keep it moderate. We don't like spending a ton on food; we eat to live, not live to eat. We may be gone when you get there. Thanks, DMC :)
  17. I just got my room on Priceline. I started at 130 MTW and then added MTE and put 140, since I really wanted to stick to those two places. I am very happy :) with my hotel, Intercont. Barcley, as it is only a few blocks from the convention at the Hilton. Went on Trip Advisor and got the usual mixed reviews, but more good than bad. Thanks for your help, thereuare. Also, how do I change this posting clock for me? Where did it come up with this time? Oh, I went through savingsbarn.com
  18. Just thought I'd share our Hotwire experience. We stayed on a Friday and Sat. last month, June, in Chicago. We went to Hotwire the night before and didn't find anything interesting enough, but the next morning the 107 4* appeared, so I did a little research, thanks to this site, and I came to the conclusion that it was the Hyatt Downtown. Sure enough, that's what it was. It's an okay place, but the price was right. We also upgraded when we got there for 15/night to a view room that was on the corner in the West Tower, which is quieter than the main lobby tower. The place is huge. Parking was 39 bucks a day, but there is a cheaper lot in the area, so I'm told. We just spent the 39 bucks because I had stuff in my car to secure. If you do drive, enter the garage yourself from the West Tower. Do not :) go into the main lobby area, if at all possible. It is full of taxis and cars and a cluster. Enter the garage and they will valet your car and call you a bell hop. Much more efficient this way. DMC
  19. Hi, I used to live in the Seattle area, but currently we have been sentenced to Groton, CT thanks to the USNAVY. We are returning to the area again -- we love it there. Anyway, we have used Priceline three times in the past few years. One time we got the Edgewater for 70, or 80, don't remember, with none of that bidding rezone stuff. That is a very nice place right on the water, three stars. The next time we got the Marriott Waterfront, very nice, but DON'T eat at the expensive Fish Club there; it is a total ripoff and it sucks. Two of these were summer and one was fall. Our friends got the Marriott Waterfront every time. Next time we got the Crowne Plaza, also very nice three star. That was either 70 or 80 I just don't recall right now. All of these hotels were three stars. I heard one time someone got the Holiday Inn Express near the Space Needle, which, I would assume, is two and a half stars, but don't know. Don't stay in that area. You won't like it, believe me. Go eat at the crumpet place near the pike's market. I think it's around 3rd and Pine. I don't know the name, but it was awesome. Too bad I discovered it on my last visit to Seattle. Hope this helps. DMC
  20. Thanks, thereuare, I am amazed at your committment to this site. I have been a fan for a long time but have never posted. Thanks for all of your hard work. I have printed out the bidding zone stuff, but I'm a little scared to do it. I have used Priceline before, but I just put in a price and I usually get it, but this time, since I am spending three nights in an expensive place with a hefty tax rate, I would rather save my money on a dining experience or a visit to Ess-A-Bagel. Did I get that right? Okay. I will go as high as 140 or 150 for four stars and walk to the convention or take the subway, which I'm afraid to do. Yes, I'm a nervous Nellie. Thanks, DMC Is that whole cluster of hotels on your priceline map for NYC in the same area?
  21. Hello, I put that last post in the wrong spot. I am going to NYC 8-3 t0 8-6. I was supposed to get a rate of 150 at the Hilton Ave. of Americas. Now they tell me it's 199. I don't want to spend that much. Is there a chance that I could still get that Hilton even if there is a convention there and they're probably sold out or close to it? Also, should I do it now or wait? What's better? Thanks for any advice. I love that Priceline map, thanks! DMC
