1. Thanks for the reply, July 27 check-in, July 29 check-out. At the moment, there are no additional details for the dates above indicated. Rooms are very scarce at this time for some unknown reason and this date is no longer available. But I tried July 30 check-in and August 1, check-out: 2.5-star Hotel in Everett South - Mukilteo This Hotel features the following amenities: Fitness Center Guests have access to exercise equipment; an additional charge may apply. Restaurant(s) Property offers at least one restaurant on the premises; hours and days of operation may vary. Business Center Guests have access to business equipment and services; an additional charge may apply. Laundry Facilities (self-service) <amenity names only please... not descriptions> High-Speed Internet Access Guestrooms are equipped with high-speed Internet access; an extra charge may apply. Free Parking <amenity names only please... not descriptions> Free Breakfast <amenity names only please... not descriptions> Free Internet <amenity names only please... not descriptions> Handicapped parking <amenity names only please... not descriptions>
2. There is another establishment, it is 2.5 stars, listed as Everett South - Mukilteo area The possibles are: Ramada Hotels Holiday Inn Express Hotels Hampton Inns Clarion Hotels Quality Inns Days Inns Fitness Center, Restaurant(s), Business Center, Laundry Facilities (self-service), High-Speed Internet Access are listed in the details.
3. Yes, it was the Aladdin. The amenities are not accurate on Hotwire. The amenities listed are: Pool(s) Property offers at least one pool area; hours and dates of operation may be seasonal. Laundry Facilities (self-service) Free Breakfast. I did not see any onsite laundry facilities. The hot tub has been sealed up, now it's just an extra room. There is free internet, but not mentioned. Perhaps because it's not reliable? The details for the 2* hotel do not specify which Best Western it is but I believe we drove by another one just over the bridge close to McDonalds, also in Kelso. I wouldn't be surprised if we pay for a 2.5* accomodation but actually get a 2*. For audit purposes, I must assume every retailer in North America must account for all their earnings, charges, and taxes individually. Lumping the taxes and any other charges may be discretionary but details should be provided when asked or challenged. Some ignorant people may accept this practice of taking everything at face value as being in order, but in my experience I have seen countless of examples where there is fraud and it is only discovered during random audits. This is why I believe legally and for accounting purposes, the retailer must show it separately in their books and to Uncle Sam (IRS). Afterall, Uncle Sam and local state governments must verify that they're charging, collecting the correct amount for the applicable taxes and not just pocketing it. Who knows if HW is suppose to reimburse the hotel or directly to the IRS the taxes they collected. Simply put, it is clearly not logical to accept at face value that any establishment is charging the correct amount of taxes. The usual way businesses get audited is when there is a complaint that they're being overcharged on taxes. With HW, we have no idea what the tax rate(s) they are using and what the recovery or HW's surcharge is. Put it another way, would you just accept a separate line on a bill you receive, say, for car repairs, where it says: other charges? Wouldnt you question it? I really am dumbfounded. Why the secrecy and rationalizing of their actions is beyond my comprehension. I had a separate thread on the matter and you moved it here. Do you think people will know to go to this thread and learn how HW is not revealing how they calculate their charges. Your visitors to your site have a right to know, unless you're trying to hide something? I believe any any reasonable person would want to know how the charges they are being billed for are calculated. I shall be writing a letter to the IRS and advising them of my concerns and also to the Better Business Bureau because the BBB has a badge on HW's site.
4. Is there a breakdown of additional charges that Hotwire and Priceline uses? With Hotwire, the taxes et al have all the charges lumped in together. One has absolutely no idea what the extra charges are. One hotel manager I spoke to recently said HW gets a huge cut so i need to be on top of things with them. I am also very surprised nobody has challenged the lack of full disclosure in court because there seems to be no mechanism is in place to charge to prevent them to charge whatever they want and they just group all charges into one without any breakdown the exception of the hotel room cost.
5. Winning bid price was $59. Taxes and other charges (unknown) are $13.52. Total is $72.52. I've emailed Hotwire for the breakdown of the $13.52 and they are giving me the runaround. I had to threaten them to provide me on how they arrived at the $13.52. I wrote to them that I will dispute the charges above the local state tax plus lodging tax with my credit card company. Their lack of disclosure is very very concerning. BTW,a word of caution. There are two Best Westerns that pop-up, one with a 2.5 star rating and another with a 2.0 star rating.
6. This forum does not like IE 9 64 bit. I had to use compatibility mode as well. if you have issues, I'd try that first or even use Google Chrome.
7. It doesn't seem like there is a selection for that? And what can you as a customer do to ensure or try to get an upgrade, complimentary or not after you find what the hotel you got? I know trying to call the hotel may help, but aside from that are there any tricks or tips after you book?
8. Did Hotwire do anything for you to make things right?
9. I just checked, the same rate that La Quinta was categorized in, now has Super8 but no La Quinta.
10. I certainly would be pleasasntly surprised it would be either of these two motels, but the listed prices on various sites, including HW, Hotels.com, and PL all have rates substantially higher. La Quinta rack rates are crazy high for this period, the HW known hotel rate (assuming it is LQ) is only $8-10 more/day than the anonymous rate, plus you get the reassurance you can cancel. Best Western is similar, similar rates to the unknown price of HW. For comparison purposes, I entered the same selection I did last year when we were looking for hotels near Lake Oswego with the same rating. Our hotel came up anonymously on HW (which seems to always come up). The rates posted elsewhere like on the sites I listed above were only a few dollars more than the anonymous price of HW. I know several people who used HW before in the same area and ditto, the Crown Plaza Lake Oswego always turned up as the HW anonymous hotel. For whatever reason, HW and PL dont have good buys in this area any more. In addition, we were lucky last time when we bought via HW (anonymous hotel). The manager of the hotel gave us a complimentary upgrade because the room he first put us in was just horrible and only one bed, with a nasty view.
11. Thanks. I think this is Super8: The amenities are as follows: 2-star Hotel in Woodburn This Hotel features the following amenities: Free Parking <amenity names only please... not descriptions> Complimentary Breakfast <amenity names only please... not descriptions> Pool(s) Property offers at least one pool area; hours and dates of operation may be seasonal. High-Speed Internet Access Guestrooms are equipped with high-speed Internet access; an extra charge may apply.
12. I was entering June 4 to June 7. Star Rating was 2 to 4 stars. What is listed in the area under 2 stars: Super 8 Hotels Ramada Hotels Days Inns Best Western Inns Sleep Inns Rodeway Inns ** Recommended: In 90% of Hotwire customer reviews. (I think this is the Super8 which is not rated too highly on Tripadvisor and hotels.com) 3 stars: Embassy Suites Hotels Wingate Inns by Wyndham Holiday Inn Hotels & Resorts Four Points by Sheraton Best Western Inns Hawthorn Suites by Wyndham
13. Hmm. Not sure what I am doing wrong, but when i try to enter Portland, I get nothing. Nevermind, looks like I have to wait several seconds for the list to populate. Still, I cant get Woodburn, OR to show up.
14. I haven't been able to see any wins? Can I safely assume it's typically Super8 that typically comes up with available hotels?
15. Thanks. Am I to understand that there is no Hotwire winning bids maps? Just Priceline Maps?
16. I had the map bookmarked but when I just tried to access it, the link is dead. Is the map still in existence?
17. I did post a review. Stay was better than expected but it could've been bad...and it almost was if it wasn't for the understanding manager on duty and my "people skills" :)
18. The office manager of this hotel was exceptional. He explained that with HW and PL rates, they cannot guarantee the number of beds available. We booked and expected two double beds but when we checked in, we were told only one King was available with a sofa bed. We went to check-in to that room and it didnt have a very good view, actual it was a horrible view of the highway. I got the impression it indeed was for HW or PL customers not guests paying the higher or rack rates. This seems to echo other guest's comments about their stay when booking through HW or PL bidding sites. I can't really fault the hotel for doing this since it really is "you get what you pay for". Fortunately, there was a last minute cancellation and we were given another room with two double beds. The beds were very comfortable and linen fresh. The carpeting throughout the hotel was quite dated and needed shampooing. The room was cleaned quite well. The only exception about the room were two things: the toilet seat was broken from it's hinges and air conditioner unit. I am not sure, but it may be tripped or activated by opening the room door. One night, it stopped working completely and it couldnt turn it on no matter what, until I opened and closed the room door. There is no in-room safe. The weight room is small as already stated, the machines are new but need some maintenance as some buttons aren't working. The swimming pool is semi covered/semi indoors. It is nicely heated. Area is quite small. Not much sun exposure. The location of the hotel is close to many amenities. Olive Garden is behind the hotel. There was no issue with highway noise, even when the A/C was off. We would stay again at this hotel, however, we may try the neighbouring hotes as they are also located in this "hotel zone" .
19. Hardly. The (recent) reviews suggest it's not going to be a good stay considering how the hotel is treating HW and PL guests. I think this forum needs to be a better job at reporting and addressing this issue. I've done searching for this hotel in this forum and the info is quite dated. Most importantly, one cannot ignore the subjective evidence. Your response gives me cause to be concerned. I am not one of those people who put on colored glasses just to see a tinted view of reality. At the same time, I go in there with an open mind and I am never critical, judgmental, or bias. However, I will call it as I see it and there WILL be pictures to follow if I see what I shouldn't see. :)
20. Where would I report back? What probably MOST of us don't know is that they seem to treat Priceline and Hotwire customers like #$%!...at least from Trip Advisor. The hotel is about 30 miles or 50 kms from the Wayburn outlets, that doesnt seem very close? The location of the hotel is also is off the freeway and it's noisy. Earplugs are given in the rooms. Rooms are of 2 star quality, not the 4.5 star that Hotwire seems to advertise. If I do have a bad experience, I definitely will not be using PL or HW again. And if that's the case, how do I make a formal complaint to HW or PL?
21. No problem. I like the feedback I am getting in this forum :) The hotel is now listed as 3.5 stars on Hotwire. The amenities are: Fitness CenterPool(s)Restaurant(s)Business CenterHigh-Speed Internet Access. Shall I post back after my stay whether or not breakfast, parking and free WIFI is included? I know for me, these are kind of important.
22. We're staying at the end of May:Crowne Plaza @ Lake Oswego-Tigard for $49.00 a night. Not sure what the additional $8 or so dollars per night fee was. Will post an amended version after our stay. I hope they dont treat us poorly just because we got the room via HOTWIRE.
23. Looks like the prices have picked up, drats. Any how, I took the plunge and I was scared, lolz. Booked with Hotwire and got the Crowne Plaza @ Lake Oswego-Tigard for $49.00 a night. Not sure what the additional $8 or so dollars per night fee was. I imagine it was Hotwire's admin fee? How do I post my rate to the site so people have a reference on the hotel for the area? Thx
24. Pool and parking is definitely more important that being in downtown. I started with $50/night for DT Portland @3.5 stars only just to get a feel. Not knowing what's outside of the DT core or near the airport is a concern. We are light sleepers so we don't want to be disturbed by airplanes. Our focus is any h/motel near the main shopping areas that has WIFI, free breakfast and parking, and a pool (preferred). I heard Woodburn has some really good shopping but it's quite a drive from DT Portland. I'd like to check out the zoo and some other sites if there is enough time.
