  2. Wytheville had a PRICELINE EXPRESS 2.5-star at $63. With the limited number of hotels in the city and a pretty good idea of what properties were at stake, I decided to try to undercut it a little by using NYOP. Started at $45. It rejected my bid, but said I could up my bid $18 to secure a win. Knew the sweet spot was somewhere in between. Added a zone, upped to $50. No dice. Added a zone, upped to $55, for the win. Before bidding $55, I seriously considered $54. Now I'll never know if I could have saved that one dollar. :)
  3. Unfortunately I don't remember the amenities listed as they were all so similar around Asheville and I wasn't looking for any amenity in particular. I will make sure to note such things before my next BetterBidding post!
  4. $148 is a bit more than I'd like to pay for a Holiday Inn, but when it's July 4th, and it's a Friday, I don't think I can really complain. Typically I would try to figure out what hotel it is under Express Deals and then play the Name Your Own Price game, bidding slightly under that, but this time I was afraid of getting the 3.5-star Crowne Plaza. Yes, the CP has a higher star rating, but its reviews are mixed enough to concern me. Decided to play it safe this time and go with the "Guest Favorite."

  6. Based on all the information out there including hotel lists, the reviews that mentioned a hotel shuttle, the "90% customer recommended," I felt pretty confident that it was going to be the Wyndham. Glad it turned out to be as its location is very convenient for my plans.
  7. My rejected bid before the successful one was $71, if I remember correctly, so you might be able to land something in between $71 and $75. There was a PRICELINE EXPRESS Deal in the same area at $82, which I believe is for this hotel. This is the only 3.5* in the zone as far as I can tell. The Express Deal gave me a nice guideline on where to max out the bid. Happy with the deal, figured it was coming based on guaranteed amenities (just one, a restaurant on site) and the hotel list.
  8. Since my $57 was immediately accepted, I think I could have saved at least a few dollars with a somewhat lower bid. Oh well, still satisfied with the price.
  9. Wanted 4* only in YVR Airport/Richmond area. Started bidding at $55. I knew that was way low, but why not try? Kept working re-bid strategy (plenty of re-bid zones in Vancouver, BC). Up around $75-79, Priceline suggested I take the "one-time offer" to raise my bid to $98. Knew I was closing in and started to narrow the amount I was raising my bid. Finally accepted at $85. Given that the best prepaid rate available directly through the hotel right now is CAD 154.80 (USD 147.05), I'm happy with the win.
