  1. Yeah, that was me.  This is clearly a 2-star based on amenities, it would be a stretch to call it that based on actual quality.  There was mold all over the bathroom tub and despite it being in the 50s/60s outside, the room was warm and stuffy because of an ancient wall-mounted a/c system.  This hotel has 2 buildings across the street from each other, and if you get put in the secondary building like I did, don't even try to park anything larger than a compact car back there.

Breakfast was mediocre, but at least it's a free breakfast.  The wifi was good, there's a fridge in the room and the pool looked nice.  Location also wasn't bad, a short ride to the beaches/parks/downtown, and right down the street from a trolley station if you go that route.

For $41 in San Diego, I guess you could do worse.

  2. Quick question regarding Hotwire. I've never used it or Priceline and am always a bit hesitant as I usually have a specific area I'd like to stay in.

I'm planning a trip to Detroit at the end of August for a Tigs game and am hoping to snag a hotel in Greektown. I noticed that you mentioned Casino, and was wondering if that was mentioned as an amenity when you were looking.

On Hotwire so far, all I've seen is a downtown area hotel for $114 (normally $179 on other sites) but Casino isn't listed as an amenity.

The only thing I find strange is I don't know of any 4* hotels in downtown Detroit with a pool...and this one supposedly has both indoor pool and pool listed.

Yes, the exact amenities for Greektown were listed earlier in this thread....

Motor City Casino is the 4.5* on Hotwire. On Priceline, the 4* hotel is the Westin Book Cadillac (has a pool).

  3. There's only 2 hotels in the immediate vicinity of Wayne State. Hotel St. Regis (avoid) and the Inn on Ferry Street (nice, but out of your budget).

Downtown Detroit and midtown (most areas) are safe, so don't worry. Wayne State also has its own police force that do a good job. The alternative is Dearborn, which is a quick ride to Wayne State. Parking will also be free in Dearborn as opposed to a downtown hotel.

  4. Had $7/day in bonus cash, so I actually won with an $18 bid. Quite happy with this win, though it's not a huge savings. Resort fee is annoying, but you get free airport and strip shuttles, along with wireless internet.

Room Cost (avg. per room, per night): $18.00 (USD)

    Number of Rooms: 1

Number of Guests Per Room: 2

    Number of Nights: 4

    Room Subtotal: $72.00 (USD)

    Taxes and Fees: $20.72 (USD)

    Total Room Cost: $92.72 (USD)
