  1. Tried convertable for same dates at $30 and $32 (offered free re-bid), but not accepted. HOTWIRE rate is $35 while full rate from rental car company website is over $300 for the 5 days. Great deal! Your Offer Price: $21.00 (per day) Total Rental Days: 5 days Subtotal: $105.00 Taxes and Fees: $43.07 Total Charges: $148.07
  2. Using your PRICELINE link I got a room at the Westin Market Street for 7/19 - never stayed there before. USE bids usually deliver the Hyatt Embarcadero for me. I saw that people were getting rooms for $85 so I wanted to test out the price floor and I had time before my stay. Here is my bidding history: USE $80 USE + 1 $82 USE + 2 $83 USE + 3 $85 - ACCEPTED Your Offer Price Per Room, Per Night: $85.00 Subtotal: $85.00 Taxes & Service Fees: $19.79 Total Charges*: $104.79
  3. Using the PRICELINE link got a room at the Hyatt Embarcadero on 5/31/08 for $88. Bidding history: USE $85 - rejected added Civic Center $88 - accepted Your Offer Price Per Room, Per Night: $88.00 Subtotal: $88.00 Taxes & Service Fees: $20.26 Total Charges*: $108.26 Have stayed at this hotel several times via Priceline and it's a nice place. Great location just off the BART line and near Embarcadero Center (Sat AM Farmers Market). In the past I have been successful at upgrading the room to a "water view" room at check-in for approx $15 extra - well worth it.
  4. You want to be downtown to easily access MUNI and BART. If you stay outside the city (San Mateo, SF Airport, South San Francisco, etc.), you'll risk being stuck at a place a good distance from convenient mass transit. There are a few hotels in South San Francisco and San Francisco Airport that are somewhat close to mass transit, but it's a gamble and you will enjoy your trip more if you're downtown. I would recommend (in order): USE/USW, Fishermans Wharf, Cathedral Hill, Civic Center.
  5. Bid USE $75 - Accepted. Hyatt Regency San Francisco Union Square East - Embarcadero 5 Embarcadero Center San Francisco, California 94111 I planned on rebidding and eventually adding USW. Darn - should have started lower! Your Offer Price: $75.00 Extend Your Stay Number of Rooms: 1 Number of Nights: 1 Subtotal: $75.00 Taxes & Service Fees: $18.51 Total Charges: $93.51
  6. I stay at the Holiday Inn SFO last night and let me tell you, it doesn't deserve its 3* rating. This was by far the worst hotel I've stayed in in a while. They are completing a remodeling of the lobby and the restaurant, but I didn't see any work on the rooms. First of all, at checkin the woman at the front desk was obviously intent on giving me the worst room since I had gotten the room via Priceline. I was given a smoking king room next to the elevator. She said "all we have is a smoking room. Open the window if the smell it too bad." The wallpaper in the room looked like it hadn't been changed since the 70s. They had obviously removed a painting from the wall as you could see the dingey faded outline in the wallpaper. The toilet was stopped-up, the shower was luke-warm, and the TV reception was marginal. The hotel did have free internet access, though. Given the other hotels listed in the area as 3* (Westin, etc.), I would say the Holiday Inn is far below the mark.
  7. Does your bidding history affect the success of future bids on PL? Would someone who was new to PL have better success getting a 4* hotel at a particular rate compared to a veteran PL customer who has show a history of winning bids at a particular location, date, etc.? Or, are the bids accepted independent of your bidding history, success rate, etc.? Thanks! Dave
  8. For the past 2 months I have been getting rooms at nice 4* hotels at SFO airport regularly for $40. I have been getting these rooms weekly on the same night of the week since I have to be in the Bay Area for work. Based on postings on the SF board, other folks have been getting these same sort of deals on 4* hotels. Recently (past 3 weeks), I have not been successful getting any 4* hotels for $40-55 using my same bidding strategy. So, my question is: does your bidding history affect the success of future bids on PL? Would someone who was new to PL have better success getting a 4* hotel at a particular rate compared to a veteran PL customer who has show a history of winning bids at a particular location, date, etc.? Or, are the bids accepted independent of your bidding history, success rate, etc.? Thanks! Dave
  9. For the past two months I have been able to successfully get 4* rooms at SFO or San Mateo for $40/nt (usually at the Hyatt SFO). For some reason (maybe Priceline maintains a history and no loger allows me to get thoses deals), I was unable to get deals on 4* rooms at SFO for anywhere near $40 for the past two weeks. Whats up...? Suggestions? Bid history: $40 SFO, San Mateo 4* - rejected $45 SFO, San Mateo, South San Francisco 4* - rejected $50 SFO, San Mateo, Cathedral 4* - rejected $55 SFO, San Mateo, South San Francisco, Cathedral 4* - rejected $40 San Mateo 3* - rejected $40 SFO, San Mateo 3* - accepted
  10. comments "right on Union Square" ammenities: Restaurant, Business Center, Fitness Center Westin St Francis Surprisingly, this is on the night of the Chinese New Year Parade which goes right through Union square. Great deal!
  11. I have been using Priceline for about 2 months to get hotels in the SFO area. Until last week I was able to rebid on the same date, star rating and location but different price by opening another browser window and starting the bidding process over. But, this week it all changed and I get the "72 hours" message when attempting to rebid. Does Priceline allow new users to rebid to a certain point or did they just fix a bug in their system?
  12. Usually get the Hyatt with this bid... Tried: 4* San Mateo $35 4* SF Airport + San Mateo $40 - ACCEPTED Marriott SFO Airport charges for parking.
  13. Just found this forum - great info! I found that the Hyatt SFO cheapest rate I could get was $40/nt Tried: 4* SF Airport $35 - REJECTED 4* SF Airport + San Mateo $38 - REJECTED 4* SF Airport + San Mateo $40 - ACCEPTED But the Hyatt charges you $12/nt to park.
