  1. Not too of splitting my stay. Think its highly avoidable given that we are then for 4 night. But just to add and repeat what I have said Travel dates 4th June to 8th June. Idealy budget is around 160$ all inclusive night , can stretch to 200-210$ if something great comes up I am already holding on to 2 Bookings actually , first one is in LIC - Hotel Verve with breakfast, the second one , the first 3 nights in Tribecca Blue ( its on canal street for about 200$ a night) & 1 night in Hotel Milford NYC in Times Square ( 200$ a night). What I read while Tribecca blue might be in a ok location, hotel itself is just about a 3 star, the Milford NYC in Times square is supposed to be a dump. And these are without breakfast! I can cancel or modify any of the above till 1st June'13. Now the questions 1. Given this situation I can hope that I get a good deal on hotwire for the given dates. Perhaps something comes up later this week or next. Ideally around 150$ all inclusive, but if not that maximum 200$ if the hotel is really a good one in terms of location and clean average room size for 2 people with luggage 2. If I dont get 4 straight nights in midtown or lower manhattan area, then the next question - Is it worth staying in LIC, for which I already hold bookings with a more than decent hotel OR - Look at splitting the stay I could at just look at finding a good hotel near Tribecca area for the last night ie look for only one hotel over what I already have I could split it into 2 equal nights ie look for 2 hotels Would welcome suggestions of experts on how and what I should be doing?????? Should I be trying on hotwire - 3 star downtown/soho/ financial district one with the ameneties mentioned for 169$ + taxes a nigh or priceline with a bid??? Need help on deciding, very unsure
  2. The question I have on priceline is that the bids basis the strategy which what was advised has not yielded success I had bid upto 155 USD ie around 200$ per night after taxes and fees for 3.5 Star! The area I was bidding to recap were. Central Park South Chelsea Area Empire State Building Area Lower East Side Madison Square Garden - Convention Area Midtown East Midtown West SoHo - Tribeca Times Square - Theatre District Maybe I should include financial district & Hells Kitchen as well and try again??? But for a first time visitor, wont financial district be really at one end of Manhattan? I already have a good deal/blocking in Long Island City for Hotel verve for 165$ all inclusive. But I am told/advised, that one should stay in Manhattan only ( basically for the night life), even though travelling from say Times Square or Financial district to "chelsea, meatpacking, greenwich village" would be same from travelling from LIC in terms of time and convenience using the subway. Is that a correct understanding..that LIC area is also good if not better than some parts of Manhattan eg Financial district, Uptown east??? I not ok with going below a 3 star. I can maximum bid upto 155$'s, so do you recommend that I try again to bid...please share bidding strategy or shouls I just simply select all areas mentioned above ( include hells kitchen and financial district??) and bid 155$ for 3.5 star and if it fails try 3 star?
  3. I clicked the HOTWIRE link, put in the filters of date and locations What I am getting is 3 star in Downtown - Soho - Financial district for 169$ + taxes a night. With the only the following amenties mentioned Free Breakfast, Fitness Center, High-Speed Internet Access

  5. ALSO AaronJb/Romelle/thereuare..thanks for all the help till now Got hold of a friends US credit card and did the bidding on priceline a few days back. Wasnt a sucessful bid. I bid upto 165 USD ie around 210$ per night after taxes and fees for 3.5 Star..I not ok with going below a 3 star! The area I was bidding to recap were. I can maximum bid upto 165$'s Central Park South Chelsea Area Empire State Building Area Hell's Kitchen Lower East Side Madison Square Garden - Convention Area Midtown East Midtown West SoHo - Tribeca Times Square - Theatre District Maybe I should include financial district as well and try again? But for a first time visitor, wont that be really at one end of Manhattan? I already have a good deal/blocking in Long Island City for Hotel verve for 165$ all inclusive. But I am told that one should stay in Manhanttan only ( basically for the night life), even though travelling from say Times Square or financial district to "chelsea, meatpacking, greenwhich village" would be same from travelling from LIC in terms of time and convenience using the subway. Is that a correct thing..that LIC area is also as good??? I see a 3 star in hotwire in downtown - financial district, which after taxes would be around 217$'s..should I just purchase that instead of bidding? Not sure if this hotel would be in SOHO or financial district?
  6. This Hotel features the following amenities: Free Breakfast <amenity names only please... not descriptions> Fitness Center Guests have access to exercise equipment; an additional charge may apply. High-Speed Internet Access Guestrooms are equipped with high-speed Internet access; an extra charge may apply.

  9. I seem to have hit a "roadblock" with priceline. Given my vacation is now very close and in my judgement i thought I would bid on priceline as close to my visit ( so as to make use of unsold inventory) BUT, when after choosign the area and hotel category, when I reach the page to fill in credit card details, it doesn't give an option for "INDIA" under "which country" question. So now I am unsure what to do, if I can bid at all? Anyone has any idea, I have written to priceline an email, but havent herd back from them
  10. Just read in another city forum, that re bidding doesn't always work ie Priceline might add / have a desired star hotel added at the last minuet , which could then be disastrous. Eg what if I get south San Francisco or sfo north or cicv center 3.5 star...then instead of getting a good deal I will be stuck with a vey bad deal indeed. Any way to reduce this risk, besides checking once before the actual bidding?
  11. Apologies for being indecisive . 1. But need to cap my bid at max 125 USD, so that in all it comes to 145-150 USD per night. This would be for a room for 2 people. MUST is a ensuite bathroom. 2. Need you to suggest the order of preference amongst zones. This is what I came up with purely on basis things to do towards evening and being best connected with public transport CPS,TS,MTW,Chelsea,MSG,ESB,Soho,LES,MTE Assume this order of preference would impact the bidding strategy Request for a new bidding strategy basis the above
  12. I read about the re bidding link. I think I have understood it. Since I am bidding for 3.5 star, the following are my re bid zones (5 in number) ie civic center south, marina-lombard street, richmond, sfo north & south sanfrancisco. Please confirm if this understanding is correct so that I start bidding .. I would restrict my bids to max USD 100, so please recommend that if 3.5 star in USE fails, then which zones should i try next USW or Financial district? or Should i be trying 3 star in USE for max 100 ?
  13. Understand what you are saying , so lets stick to 3.5 star and for around 100 in USE..i won't be comfortable staying in tenderloin - so if there is way to mitigate that risk then we could look at USW - maybe bidding for 4 star in USW helps to secure a good hotel in USW. Also open to financial district if you think that will also help us experience the vibrant nightlife( bars and food) and also be in position where we can access the other must do sites of the city easily via publication transport... If the wove fails then the bid price increase to 120 usd, again first preference would be USE Please help with bidding strategy
  14. Objective is to get east expensive 3.5 or 4. Star. I have read USW can be tricky for less than 4 star....so prefer USE..unless my understanding is not correct....would other areas like mission district/ north beach also fit the requirement ? Or it wud be bett for. "First timer" to SF stay in UNion square area....? Ideally I would be happy with 100 USd and around for a 3.5 star and 120 for 4 star Thks
  15. Please help with the bidding strategy to follow to secure a 4 star or min 3.5 star in USE ideally if not , then I guess USW unless you would recommend any other area besides USW within 100-120 used per night Looking at places which are safe, have easy access to public transport to see the " must do" , close to night life - bars, street food and shopping area Basis what I have read USE fit the bill
  16. Thank you very much. Will update all . And assume the below process I should try in one go and don't spread is over days / time
  17. Frankly, I dont have a point of view on MTE, but rather stay in a livelier area, so in that sense MTE could be avoided. Also not sure the order amongst the rest. Hotel should be easily accessible through public transport, have wifi ( ideally free)and clean rooms with ensuite bathroom ( a must) and confortable bed. Not looking for anything particularly fancy ( anycase my budget doesn't allow anything of 3 star), as would hardly be spending much time in the room / hotel. Will await what should be bidding strategy and the process Thank you all for the help
  18. Well, while I have read up , not sure if these are the best zones for what we want to do Here goes zones - which would be safe, well connected and have lot to do at night - clubbing, drinking ,eating Central Park South, Chelsea, Empire State Building Area, Lower East Side,Madison Square Garden,Midtown East & West,Soho & Times Square Please let me know how I should proceed. If 150 USD for a 3 star is unrelaistic, then perhaps can go upto 180 ( all inclusive) Thanks
  19. Thanks. What should be bidding strategy : location and amount for Manhattan given our requirement?
  20. So in 150 per night in Manhattan - is 2.5 star more likely? Econolodge in timessquare and hotel newton are available for around 200 per night or there is verve hotel in lic for around 160 per night incl taxes Please recommend
  21. Hi We are couple in mid 30's travelling to NY for the first time. We would be there from 4th June till 8th June Besides the must do things like Central Park, Brookyln Bridge, Empire Stare Building , we would like to go clubbing /drinking & shop for clothes & home decor. And yes love to try our new cuisines / street food & do a cruise After reading up, ideally would like to stay in Manhattan - towards midtown or south & close to a subway We have a max budget of around 150 USD per night ( including taxes) to stay. Just looking at a very clean & safe place to sleep ( don't require many amenities)- so 3 or 3.5 star would do fine. Is it possible, cause rates currently on traditional booking sites cost is around 200 USD ( including taxes) in Manhattan & around 170 USD in Long Island City. Would much rather stay in Manhattan to avoid commute time. Calling all experts to for tips & recommendations Cheers
  22. Thank you aaronjb I don't quite understand what you said about Hotwire I'd not reported, assume you mean this perhaps is a new hotel in the list and thus cannot be guessed So basically I would need to rely solely on Priceline to try and secure a better hotel in the union square area than the "grant" in around 100-120 USD. Will try to start bidding at Priceline for 90 and go upto 120 with incremental of 5 in each bid, I would be happy with a 3.5 star or 4 star. Lets see if I get lucky Hope I have understood the advice correctly ?
