1. 4 start in Worthington area listed for $59 with with 95% approval and 4 out of 5 TripAdvisor - which always seems to be the Sheraton Suites, and it was. Amenities: free parking, pet friendly, indoor pool, smoke free, fitness center, pool, restraunt, business center, internet access Note that internet free in the lobby but not in the room. Always a great place to stay. Was happy to see this on HotWire for a last minute trip. Was just in Columbus last week and stayed at the Crowne Plaza via this PriceLine win.
2. Started bidding at $48 for a 3.5 star the night of 7/19 in the Worthington/Polaris corridor a week ago. Worked my way up to $60 yesterday with no luck while watching Hot.wire. (I typically bid 2 time in a day by adding Columbus North and then sometimes adding Fairgrounds or East areas which only have 2.5 star offerings). Today I saw that the Crown Plaza had dropped to $63 on Hot.wire from $68 yesterday. The North Pointe Conference Center had also dropped from $91 to $86 and although a little pricy for what you get, I was almost ready to take that if today's bids on Price.Line were not accepted. As it turns out, my first PL bid today was $58 and that was accepted. $17.68 in fees tacked on. Stayed there in early June (with what seemed to be about 1000 cheerleaders - luckily none on the exec level) for an accepted bid of $59. Time before at the CP I got it for $52. Had the Sheraton Suites for $57 via Hot.wire in May. Booked these via the PRICELINE links on this site.
3. Started looking for a deal in the Polaris/Worthington area via Hot.Wire & Price.line a week ago with the goal of getting the Crown Plaza, Sheraton Suites, DoubleTree for $55 or less. My PL bidding started at $49 and I worked up to $59 by yesterday with no luck. I was thinking of a starting PL bid of $57-58 today but went with a repeat of the $59 bid -- and got the Crown Plaza -- which is what I really wanted because of the connected indoor/outdoor pools. The grandkids will be happy with this one when we bring them over to splash around. $60 was my max before going with the Sheraton Suites via their web site pay-your-age promo which becomes a decent bargain when you're my age. The Crown Plaza was listing on Hot.wire (3-1/2 star, 85% recommended) at $69-71 for the past two weeks then $67 yesterday and $64 today. PriceLine.Express had it at $65 today. Regular PL rate was $114 for the CP and $141 for Sheraton Suites. Booked via the PRICELINE link on this site.
4. 4 star with 95% HW approval and 4.0 Tripadvisor rating for $57 per nignt totaling 142.75 for two nights. Booked via the HOTWIRE link on this site. Had been listed at $54 per night just a couple of hours ago. Great place, stayed many times over the last few years. Hotel Amenities: Free Parking, Pet friendly, Indoor pool(s), Smoke Free Rooms, Fitness Center, Pool(s), Restaurant(s), Business Center, Internet access Note that the internet access is only free in the lobby.
5. Booked via the PRICELINE link on this site. Figured it would be the Crown Plaza or DoubleTree. Didn't bother working up from a lower bid seeing as it is a last minute booking for tomorrow night. Perhaps could have gotten it for around $47-50 if I had the time. Total is $68.43 Stayed here many times - it's an okay place and a good value when you can get it under $50. Hot.wire listed it at $58 for this date.
6. HW search was for Westlake. Found an inexpensive 2 Star with 95% approval rating and decent reviews which looked interesting. I figured it was the Red Roof Inn in Westlake or Middleburg Heights. Both had favorable reviews via TripAdvisor and Hotels.com. The RRI site indicated recently renovated (but didn't defined the word "recently". Unfortunately, I didn't mark down the amnities and they were not shown on the confirmation page or email. And, it didn't come up when I did not HW search for Westlake. It ended up being the one in Middleburg Heights which goes for $44.99 plus tax on their site. So the HW total was $49.81 meaning the savings was a whopping $4 for the price of not being able to cancel or change. Can't wait to see how it turns out. But, I just needed an inexpensive, last minute place to spend the night, so that's why I picked it. If the newly renovated Sheraton at the Airport would have shown up on HW for this date, I might have spend the extra $25 (it's typically listed with 3.5 stars and 90% approval in the high $50/low $60).
7. Booked via the HOTWIRE link on this site. Listed as 4 star with 95% approval (used to be a 3.5 start with 95%). $58 per night + $40.22 tax/fees for 3 nights. Trivago listed it at $87/night plus tax. HOTWIRE also listed the CrownPlaza for same dates: 3.5 start, 80%, $56. It popped up at $54 last week, but when I decided to book the next day, it was no longer listed. Had been watching for it to return. Amenites: Free Parking, Pet friendly, Indoor pool(s), Fitness Center Pool(s), Restaurant(s), Business Center,Internet access This will be the 3rd Xmas holiday staying at this Sheraton Suites via Hotwire. It was $58 last year (they upgraded me to the large business suite that time - I've stayed here many times via Hotwire over the past few years). Saw a November win posted on the Priceline page for this one at $48. Was tempted to bid via PL but really wanted the Sheraton this visit and knew that there was a good possibility of getting either DoubleTree or CrownPlaza instead (although both are acceptable).
8. HW customer recommendation was listed as 95%. Fees were $15.26 for a total of $75.26. Trip Advisor rating on HW was 3.5. Hotels.com listed it at $99 with a customer rec of 4.0. Last booked this hotel in April 2013 via HW at $55. At that time it had a TripAdvisor rating of 4.0 and we were quite pleased with it, hence the reason for picking it again even though we only needed an inexpensive overnight while on our jouney. Amenities: Fitness Center Restaurant(s) Business Center Self service laundry Internet access Golf Nearby Accessible for the blind Accessible for the deaf Accessible path of travel In-room accessibility Accessible bathroom Handicapped parking Roll-in shower Also saw that the HolidayInn Express Perrysburg was listed on HW as a 3 star, 90% recommendation with TA rating of 3.5 for $62 on same date. Stayed at that one a couple of times - certainly the HI Waterpark is a much better property and a superior value considering the price. Of course, the HIE Perrysburg includes breakfast, which used to be pretty decent (recent reviews regarding the breakfast did not appear to be very kind). Hey, if the HIE was maybe $10+ less, I probably would have taken that. Whatever the case, stay away from the 2.5 star Red Roof listed with an 85$ rec for $42.
9. Started bidding at $49 on hotels in this area a few weeks ago for the Oct 4-6 dates. Anything decent on HOTWIRE was outlandishly priced. Found out that the Presidents Cup was taking place in Dublin Oct 3-6, hence the high prices for hotels in the area. I was bidding Worthington/Polaris 3.5 stars and then adding Easton, Dublin and then Columbus North to get in multiple bids each day. Early on I booked the Best Western Franklin Park Suites/Polaris directly for $89+tax just to make sure I had a room. Worked my way up on PRICELINE to $70 with no luck as of yesterday. However, I noticed the pricing on HOTWIRE was starting to drop and I figured some rooms might begin to open up today (last minute), so I started at $64 this afternoon -- and wa-la, it was accepted. Maybe I should have started a tad lower, but I'm somewhat happy with what I got - perhaps a little pricey for the Doubletree, but much better than the BW. Total for two days is $158.42 -- about $40 less than the BW was, do it's a relative bargain. Tivago listed the Doubletree today at $159/night (it didn't show as available on Trivago, Kayak, Hotels or Orbitz for the last week or so). Just so happens I got this one for $64 a few months back via PRICELINE - you can check that priceline win.
10. Booked it last night at $49 + fees = $61.38/night for two nights. Started PRICELINE bidding at $42 and submitted 2 bids per day each increased by $1. Ended up taking 4 days before bid was accepted. Pleased with the results even though two recent posts indicted they have it at a slightly lower price -- it's still a reasonably good deal. The CP was listing on HOTWIRE in the $58-$60 range during this period (plus fees which would bring it into the $70/night arena). Hotels.com listed it at $102+17 for restricted and $119+20 regular. Last stayed at the CP in May via PL at $62 after bidding for several days. Pretty good place to stay now that it has been renovated - maybe a tad better than the DoubleTree ($64 via PL in Jul) but not quite up to the Sheraton Suites ($61 via HW in Aug). Always strive to book via the BB links.
11. 2 Star with 90% HW recommendation rating and 4.0 TripAdvisor rating. Previously booked this property via HW in late April - and it was a $45 listing at that time. Prior stay was Dec 2012 at $39, which was a bargain. The $59 for this stay is certainly not a bargain, but it was last minute (booked the night before), I knew exactly what I was getting and other tenable HW listings in the vicinity were much higher. Property is okay but has gotten a little tired. However, for the price, it's clean, comfortable and out shines the Tinley Park LaQuinta which is listed on HW with a way over rated 3 start and pricing substantially higher (stayed there a couple of times during the past year or so, once via a Wyndham booking and then via an unfortunate HW pick). Beds and pillows are comfortable, towels are somewhat soft, just wish the shower curtain was on a curved rod. Breakfsst is diy waffles & other run of the mill stuff. No luxury here, but a solid 2 star which is at least as good as most HW 2-1/2 star listings. Amenities: Free Parking Free Breakfast Free Internet Pet friendly Laundry Facilities (self-service) High-Speed Internet Access Golf Nearby Accessible bathroom Handicapped parking
12. Well it was pretty shabby. Certainly in the Motel 6 class and certainly not more than a 1 star. This facility has to be 40+ years old and likely has not been refurbished. No coffee maker or frig or mw in room and an old tube TV, but it worked. HVAC seemed to work well and was not too noisy. Street level rooms have outside entrance while second floor rooms are inside entrance - but no elevators. We had a 2nd floor room with 2 double beds. Hall carpeting was in really bad shape. Room capeting as a tad better, but I didn't care to walk on it without shoes. Amazingly, the beds were very comfortable and the pillows were okay. However, the bed covering was in poor shape. Other than room carpeting and bed cover, the room was decently clean, but it just didn't feel clean. On the plus side, the bathroom was quite clean. Too bad the shower curtain was hung somewhat inside the tub which meant you were up against it most of the time while showering - ugh. Unfortunately, the bathroom had thin sheets of sandpaper in place of fluffy soft towels. Hope I don't inadvertently get this one again.
13. Amenitees: Free Parking Listed at $37 with 95% HW approval rating. HW Reviews looked good. Total with $13.38 tax/fee is $50.38. Trip Advisor lists it with a 4 approval (but this is not shown on HW). I've had a few disappointments with HOTWIRE, but this is absolutely lousy pricing seeing as Kayak has several sites listing it for $46.40 --- including Hotels.com where it is 46.40 + $6.73 totaling $53.13. Oh well.
14. Stayed here many times over the past two years and this one is always a winner. Unfortunately, it didn't show up on Hotwire for my recent trips to Columbus (ended using Priceline for two of the trips), so I was thrilled to see it pop up for this last minute trip. Maybe a little pricy when listed at $61 ($76.24 with fees) but worth it when you see the other HW listings and pretty well know what you are getting. (Two years ago I was getting this one for $44-$49 via Hotwire.) Hotels.com listed it at $155 + tax for this date. Amenities listed: 4-star Hotel in Worthington This Hotel features the following amenities: Free Parking Pet friendly Indoor pool(s) Smoke Free Rooms Fitness Center Pool(s) Restaurant(s) Business Center High-Speed Internet Access Booked it via the BB HOTWIRE link. If you haven't seem my previous posts for the Worthington area, you should check out the LaChatelaine French Bistro on High Street in uptown Worthington for an outstanding breakfast or just a great croissant -- and you absolutely won't be disappointed with dinner or Sunday brunch at J Liu, 6880 N. High St.
15. Started bidding at $54 for 3.5 star in the Worthington area. Rebid by adding Columbus North area and then Dublin area adding while increasing by $2 each time. Took two days to work up to the $64 bid which was accepted (which came out to a total of $82.38 with tax & fees). A tad pricy for the Doubletree, but it appears the Worthington/Dublin area was priced higher than usual for this particular weekend. At least it's just a short distance from uptown Worthington, so I'll be able to enjoy an exquisite morning croissant at the Lachatelaine French Bakery/Bistro at 627 High Street. From what I can surmize, it appears the Doubletree was going for $78 or $79 on Hotwire. Kayak listed it at $109. Booked via the PRICELINE link on this site.
16. Listed with 80% recommendation and 3.5 TripAdvisor rating. Also check my post on the Ohio Priceline page. Free Parking Indoor pool(s) Smoke Free Rooms Fitness Center Pool(s) Restaurant(s) Business Center High-Speed Internet Access Accessible for the blind Accessible for the deaf Accessible path of travel In-room accessibility Accessible bathroom Handicapped parking Roll-in shower
17. Well, based on what I just wrote above, my son in Chicago advised he booked the Crown Plaza Columbus North via Hotwire at $58 per night for these same dates. So he ended up getting it for a total of $10 less than what I paid via Priceline.
18. I picked the Worthington-Polaris-Westerville area, and selected 3.5 star. My bid today was $62. Over the past two weeks I've been bidding daily on a 3-1/2 start in this area starting at $48 and increasing to as high as $68 this past Monday without success. I've been watching Hotwire as well during this time but didn't find anything appealing other than what I believe to be the old Wyngate Polaris which is being renovated and rebranded as a Four Points (listing with 3 stars and a 35-45% recommendation at $66-$68). I had given up on Priceline for a few day and when I went back today, I started at $62, which may have been a few more than needed for the Crown Plaza win but not in the ball park for the DoubleTree. (I figured there was no way Priceline would have this property in the 3.5 star catagory - my bad.) Unfortunately, I've stayed at the Crown Plaza North a few time via Hotwire and thought it was over rated and over priced when I was getting it for $48. Hence, I've avoided it when it comes up on Hotwire (you can tell from the reviews). My guess is that this property just recently became available again on Priceline. It's on Hotwire and was listed today at $59 with 3.5 stars, an 80% recommendation and 3.5 TripAdvisor. This place has been undergoing renovation since late last year. Review on TripAdvisor are not great and the going price on Hotels.com and the Crown Plaza site are $85 for the same dates, so I'm a tad disappointed that I didn't get true bargain. Stay tuned for a posting of the postscript.
19. No luxury here - just basic 2 star accommodation. Older property, but clean. Switched from a King to a room with 2 beds, mini frig, small mw and LCD TV. Beds were fine (pillow top), pillows kind of okay - slept well. Bath towels were pretty thin. Breakfast was DIY waffles, toast, hb eggs, cerial. Overall it was fine for the price and would readily pick it again at $45 or less.
20. Great place, but be aware the HW room is a single queen studio suite with a "studio" couch. You can sleep a kid on the couch (it does not open to a bed), but don't expect anyone over 4'10" to sleep on it (the desk will provide sheets, blanket, etc.). Hotel is in great shape, must be rather new. Room has small kitchenette, utensils, full frig, mw, 2 burner stove top, sink, dishwasher. No oven, so don't expect to cook a frozen pizza. M-Th has evening snacks & bev. Comp breakfast is quite complete with eggs, meat, 2 varieties of breakfast pizza, cheese, muffins, yogert, diy waffels with strawberry toppings and whipped creme, etc. Breakfast area is well done and sizable. Beds, pillows are okay. Small exercise room and indoor pool. Arrangement with the TV does not work well at all for viewing from bed or couch by more than one person. It's set in a full enclosure between bed & couch with a pull-out swivel base, but does not pull out far enough to allow that second person to see the screen (yep, they know - but it is what it is). Rooms are not as quiet as you might expect, but overall okay. There are a few rooms with 2 beds and rooms with kings, but not for HW folks. There is also a two room suite which looks really nice (1 queen and 2 doubles. By the way, when I entered 2 adults + 1 child on HW, this listing disappeared - so I guess that's a clue.
21. btw, room had mini frig, small microwave, coffee maker.
22. Facility was much better than expected, not very old, looked clean, felt clean and was quite quiet on a Thursday night. Room was fresh, comfortable and almost "spacious". There was plenty of room for some type of "easy" chair, but only had a sturdy chair at the desk. Got a room with 2 queen's - but not pillow top. The quality of the pillows (4 per bed & marked with 2 different comfort levels) left a little to be desired. Towels were outstanding. Excercise room had limited equip, but passable. Restaurant pricing was reasonable for breakfast. Very pleased.
23. 3 Star with 85% recommenation rating and TripAdvisor 4.0. Booked it a few days ago and just got around to posting now. Listed for $101 on Expedia. I just look for an inexpensive one-night stop along I-80 and I've gotten the Hawthorn Suites, Super8 and HIE Perrysburg over the past year, so this will be a new adventure). Review look decent as long as you avoid the waterpark crowd. Amenities: Fitness Center Restaurant(s) Business Center Laundry Facilities (self-service) High-Speed Internet Access Golf Nearby Accessible for the blind Accessible for the deaf Accessible path of travel In-room accessibility Accessible bathroom Handicapped parking Roll-in shower
24. 2 Star with 90% HW recommendation rating and 4.0 TripAdvisor rating. Quite an improvement in ratings since I last booked this property via HW in December for a Dec 29, 2012 stay - and it was a $38 listing at that time, which was a bargain. The $45 for this stay is certainly not as much of a bargain. Property is okay, but getting a little tired. However, for the price, it's clean, comfortable and out shines the Tinley Park LaQuinta which is listed on HW with a way over rated 3 start and pricing in the $70-80 range (stayed there a couple of times during the past year, once via a Wyndham booking and then via an unfortunate HW pick). Amenities: Free Parking Free Breakfast Free Internet Pet friendly Laundry Facilities (self-service) High-Speed Internet Access Golf Nearby Accessible bathroom Handicapped parking
25. Staybridge Suites Aurora/Naperville. Listed as 3 start with 90% recommendation and 4.0 TripAdvisor. Hotwire reviews looked pretty good. Expedia & Hotels.com listed it as a special rate for $99 and 4.6 review rating (Expedia runs both Hotels.com and Hotwire). Had been watching this one for the past two weeks. Only shown for 1 or 2 in room. If you tried with 2 adults + 1 child it disappeared from the HW listing. Glad to get it and see that it was the Staybridge - but it appears that the rooms are 1 queen bed. (Hope there will be an option for king or two beds.) Amentities include: Free Parking Free Breakfast Pet friendly Indoor pool(s) Fitness Center Guests have access to exercise equipment; an additional charge may apply. Pool(s) Business Center Laundry Facilities (self-service) High-Speed Internet Access Golf Nearby Accessible for the blind Accessible for the deaf Accessible path of travel In-room accessibility Accessible bathroom Handicapped parking Roll-in shower
