  1. This is a beautiful hotel - have stayed there may times through Hotwire. Rooms are 420 sq ft and fabulous. You will not be disappointed. We'll be there July 13-17 - next week.
  2. I have to agree with DeltaPurser - the WaterTaxi is fabulous. You can get on and off at any of the stops all along the intracoastal waterway all day long for $5 (special rates for 3 day passes). And while you're on, the staff provide a wonderful tourist commentary on all the homes and yachts on the waterway, current info and history. It really is amazing. We're going to visit FLL next February, and I can hardly contain my excitement at riding the watertaxi again! Don't miss it!
  3. We just returned from Fort Lauderdale 5 days ago (Mar 2/04), and stayed at the Sheraton Yankee Clipper for 2 nights. It is a beautiful hotel. We paid $70 through Hotwire, and were upgraded to the beachfront building. The rooms were very spacious and the beds were very comfortable. I would definitely stay there again. It is about a 10 minute walk to the start of the "action" on the beach, and then you just keep walking! Didn't see the Holiday Inn or the Yankee Trader, so I can't comment. Whatever you choose to do, if you select Yankee Clipper, you won't be disappointed.
  4. I wasn't sure where to post this info, so feel free to move it to a more appropriate spot if necessary. This is for info for Hotwire users. We just stayed at the Amerisuites and Sheraton Yankee Clipper in Fort Lauderdale pre and post cruise. When I got home my Visa statement was waiting for me, and lo and behold, there was a charge for the Amerisuites stay, even though it was a prepaid Hotwire purchase. I phoned the hotel and they will be issuing a credit for the error they made. So make sure you check to see that no additional charges (for rooms only) are charged after your stay. As for the hotels, the Amerisuites was okay, but not spectacular - I found the beds to be very uncomfortable (I actually took the cushions off the couch and chair an made a makeshift bed on the floor which suited me better!) But their shuttle gladly took us to and from the water taxi, which was a nice perk. All in all, the hotel was worth the $43 we paid, but I don't think I'd spend more than that. However, I have heard from many who thought the hotel was just great. On the other hand, the Sheraton Yankee Clipper was beautiful ($70 - I overheard people commenting on their $160 room rates (who got the deal?!)) - right on the beach, the most comfy beds ever, water taxi is just across the street. I would definitely stay there again - in fact I can hardly wait to go to Fort Lauderdale again - what a lovely place. Hope someone finds this info helpful.
  5. Definitely add betterbidding to the "things I love". Patience certainly paid off for me. I was so annoyed with myself for not booking the "beach" after I had such success with my downtown choice (Amerisuites) for pre-cruise, but procrastination took over and I ended up kicking my own self in the butt! Was very afraid that the prices would not come down, but I'm glad they did. And I'm glad I had such great sources for researching.
  6. Okay, I took a chance and can confirm that this is indeed the Sheraton Yankee Clipper. I booked two nights (post-cruise) at $71/night, and booked one night at $70 for our friends - don't know why two nights is a dollar more each night, but two bucks won't break me! I am very, very happy with this purchase, considering that at the beginning of the week the same property was $170. I had a backup reservation booked here, and the best I was able to do was close to $150/night. What a bargain. I love Hotwire! I love Florida! And I love cruises! Mid-February can't come soon enough for me.
  7. Hotwire Feb. 29- Mar. 2 3*, Beach Access, Restaurant, Pool, Fitness, Business, Laundry, $71 I think the amenities almost match the Yankee Clipper (except previous identification doesn't list the laundry amenity, and Yankee Clipper is actually right on the beach, not beach access (of course, I could be misinterpreting something here). Any suggestions for this one!
  8. I don't think it's the Holiday Inn. According to research on this site, the Holiday Inn appears to be a 3* with different amenities.
  9. Can anyone help identify this hotel? Searching February 29-March 2 (2 nights) 2* Beachfront, Restaurant, Pool, Tennis Nearby $91 I've checked the lists and can't seem to find this property listed. Any ideas?
  10. Thanks for the info. I'm prepared to wait it out and hopefully get more of what I want. I am sad to learn that the HI is across the street from the beach - I thought it was on the beach! So I may revisit that one and book a different backup hotel. Any suggestions or recommendations? We want to be on the beach - coming from the frozen north (northwestern Ontario), why would we be anywhere else, right?! Ultimately I hope to get the Sheraton Yankee Clipper through hotwire (it's identifiable), so maybe I should book that one as my backup. What do you think?
  11. I've been holding out for a good Hotwire rate for FLL Beach for Feb. 29-Mar. 2 post cruise. Looking for at least a 3*. The rates are coming up over $100 for those dates, and in March the rates are still (what I consider to be) high. However, in April/May the rates drop down to $60ish (broke my heart when I saw the Sheraton for that price!) Am I going to have to pay $120+ for our room - I guess the rates are higher because of the time of year, but I wonder if it's possible that they'll drop. We have a room booked at the Holiday Inn Beach hotel, just in case, but that rate is $136. Any comments/suggestions? Thanks. Megan
  12. Do you recall what the amenities were for this hotel?
  13. Just booked the Winnipeg Sheraton (Downtown) for my daughter for 3 nights, August 1-4, 2003. Amenities: restaurant, pool, fitness centre, business centre Star Level: 3.5* Price: $30US (approx. $42CDN at current exchange rate) Had phoned this hotel previously and could get room for $125CDN, so this is a saving of approximately $85/night. Don't you just love Hotwire?!
  14. No, it doesn't have to be the Holiday Inn - just hoping to get a nice place on the beach (and an incredible price would be nice, too). I know that the hotels Hotwire is associated with are nice hotels, but I never was one for surprises! I like that we're able to play detective here! (but some are better detectives than I).
  15. Still looking for Feb. 29-Mar 2. A 3*FLL Beach has come up at $58/night, amenities are beach, restaurant, pool, fitness centre, business centre. When I look at the packages (couldn't get my dates - too far in advance - for September, the Holiday Inn FLL Beach matches. What are the chances that this would be the hotel? Any other suggestions?
  16. It's for post-cruise. Sail to/from FLL, but fly home from Miami. Have Amerisuites booked pre-cruise. Thanks for the reply.
  17. Searching for Feb. 29, one night, Miami Beach. Can anyone suggest what hotel this might be: Amenities: boutique hotel, beach access, complimentary breakfast Cost: $59/night Was trying for Fort Lauderdale, same night, but the hotels (downtown/beach) are very expensive at that time - any suggestions as to why? Perhaps a convention or something? Thansk for the help.
  18. Is it possible to pick up a Hotwire car rental at Fort Lauderdale port and drop off at Miami airport?
  19. With the assistance of info here at betterbidding.com, I just purchased the Amerisuites in downtown FLL for pre-cruise stay next February. $43 per night for three nights, plus taxes of $20.95 = $149.95. The cheapest rate I could find on Amerisuites website for $159/night for the same dates. Am I happy? :) I was a bit nervous as this was the first time I've used the internet for anything like this, but it went quite smoothly. Thanks for the help!
