  1. I suspect that many hotels release inventory to PL on Mondays - I've had several weekend strikeouts followed by wins at lower bids after the beginning of the week. You can repeat your bid after 24 hours. Please reread the instructions on using free rebid zones. The key is to add a zone that does not have properties rated as high as the star rating you want in order to increase your bid in the target zone. If you want a 3* downtown you can increase your bid by adding a zone that only has 2* hotels to the downtown bid. Look at the hotel websites for availability and rack rates for a clue where to start your bidding. For example, if the Hilton Garden Inn City Center is sold out you may have to bid higher than if it has rooms available for $99. (Check the other hotels in the zone too -- I just used the HGI because I have stayed there before.) Good luck and enjoy your trip!
  2. EasyClickTravel.com has a 4* Times Square -- which might be the Hudson -- available for $291: http://easyclicktravel.com/PageHotelDetail...1&tab=hotel That could be your backup, since ECT bookings are refundable. That would let you hold off raising your bid above $200 until just before you leave. Where you stay between NY and DC depends on your tastes, Philadelphia fits the bill as does the Brandywine Valley. Or if you want a change from cities you could stay in a hotel or Victorian B&B in Cape May, NJ, and take the ferry across Delaware Bay to continue your trip. Good luck and enjoy your trip!
  3. I just reread your original post - forget what I said about not bidding in summer months -- you should get great Priceline rates in late October. The NYC marathon is Nov. 4 which should not interfere with your plans to save a bundle.
  4. For a first timer in New York you'll probably find Upper West Side a bit far from the action. Might want to stick to Midtown East, Midtown West and Upper Midtown. I am used to getting 4* rooms in the Times Square and Midtown East areas for under $125, though I don't usually bid in the summer months. Remember that your Priceline bids are non-refundable. I have gotten good deals in New York on easyclicktravel.com which allow cancellations if you want more flexibility. Have a great trip! - Bum
  5. Baltimore is tight this week, with a number of sold-out properties downtown and at the airport. I bid up to $81 for 2.5* in the airport zone for two days ago without success. Hoping that new inventory had been placed in the system on a Monday morning, I bgan my bidding at $65 for 2.5* and was accepted immediately, with an upgrade to the 3* Hilton. Thanks BetterBidding!
  6. Hotwire had a hotel that was probably this one for $95. Rack rate $269 - this winning first bid was 37%.
  7. Started bidding at $75, where I received the first of several counteroffers asking me to increase my bid by $22. Increased by $1 each bid, so this was the lowest possible winning bid for this zone on this date. 4* is probably an over-rating for this older property, but I got a good night's sleep, and you'll have trouble finding a Motel 6 for $81 in Miami in Feb.
  8. Started bidding at $45, $1 increments. Rack rate on the Sheraton website is $139. I hope the room renovations have improved the old Wyndham. This zone was my third choice -- I was rejected up to $82 for 4* in DC's Capitol Hill zone. Something is going on in DC that night, there are rack rates in the $400s and rental cars are up by 20%. The effect seems to be felt at BWI, where I was rejected up to $56 at 2 1/2 *. My main incentive to bid the Inner Harbor zone was a 3* hotel on Hotwire at $72 that looks to be Brookshire Suites. Oh, well. Like I said, I hope they have perked up the old towers on Fayette Street.
  9. Hi everyone, I'll be attending a conference at the Renaissance Sea World resort, which is off I-Drive between the Beeline and Central Florida Parkway. I don't want to stay too far away, and note that there's a Hilton Grand Vacations Club on Sea Harbor Drive just off CFP. Could that be the 3.5* condo that Hotwire has such good prices on this fall? Any other suggestions for 3* and up Hotwire picks in the Sea World area? Thanks.
