  1. Used Priceline Express deals through the Betterbidding Priceline link. Hotel showed at $53 in the Midland area, was able to select two double beds for $59. After taxes and fees came to $71 and change for the total one night stay.
  2. I am looking for strategies in the Midland Area for 5/1 - 5/2. Some of the 2* Hotels listed on Priceline don't seem too desirable (in Bay City) so I would like to avoid them, try and keep 2 1/2* and up. The 2 *s listed in Midland look like Baymont or Hampton but in Bay City, Euclid Inn??? Would like to keep it around $50. Our events are in Midland on Friday 5/1 and in Bay City on 5/2 so either area would work for hotel, on the night of 5/1 Not sure if it is the better route to go Express Deals or Name your Own Price, also have no experience with Hotewire, but would be up to trying that as well. I did attempt a few bids today, as I won the Midland Hotel and Conference center 2 years ago with a $50 bid and thought I could do the same this year (d'oh). It doesn't look like the property is still there and I believe it was a 2 1/2*. So I initially tried a 3* $50, rejected, added 2 1/2* @ $50 and was Rejected. That was earlier today, not sure how long I have to wait to rebid. Midland only has one Zone available too.
  3. Just wanted to follow up with this thread. We received a $50 rate at the Quality Inn on Yarborough Ave through the tournament we are attending and decided to book with that instead. Thanks for you help, this site is usually my first stop when traveling and looking at hotels. I am actually about to start a thread in the Michigan section for another trip in May. Thanks again.
  4. Ahh, I see... Every time I have used Price.line Bidding in the past I have always received two beds.. Didn't realize there were sometimes only single beds in the rooms (never thought about king rooms.) We had 4 in a King room in Vegas a few years ago at the Golden Nugget.. Worked well, had 2 in the bed, one on a roll a away and the tag a long got the floor :) We booked that right thought the Nugget though.. Usually I call after I win a bid (a few years ago in New Orleans) and see if I can request two beds and has never been an issue, but I guess like you said, it depends on the market. Thank you, I will talk with the guys tonight and see what they want to try and do.
  5. Just browsing around and looking at the BiddingHelper and it says that the Priceline Searches are Double Occupancy only. We MIGHT have a third person going with us (one of the reasons I wasn't sure if I was ready to book yet.) Are there any options for a third person or should we still just book like normal?
  6. Check in 5/18 check out 5/22.. Downtown would be the best, could probably settle with El Paso West Sunland and the ELP Airport.. We will more than likely the renting a car as well. Not quite sure we are ready to book quite yet, just exploring options at the moment, but if the pricing looks right I could book today. They usually charge the whole stay up front right?
  7. Headed to the USBC Open Championships (bowling tournament) at the end of May. Just looking to see if anyone has had any recent experience with the El Paso area lately? Search shows only a few wins in 2014. Can get a few properties for around $70 through various websites (Kayak, etc) and the Ramada for around $60. Wasn't sure if it would be worth trying to bid on something in the $40 range. It's been a few years since I have bid on anything and will need to re-read the re-bid strategy.
  8. Finally hit on the Holiday Inn New Orleans Downtown for $100. Used the PRICELINE links provided. Thank you for your help! -Joe
  9. Bid 75 on Downtown, Rejected Bid 80 on Downtown and Garden District, Rejected Bid 85 on Downtown and Garden District and New Orleans East Rejected. Trying French Quarter Now. French Quarter Rejected.. Trying Downtown and French Quarter Now.
  10. Looks like the two re-bid zones would be New Orleans East and Garden District.. So I bed 75 and was rejected. I need to add New Orleans East and bid 80? If that is rejected then add Garden District and bid 85... COrrect? Do the same with the other two strategies? NOEast has a 2* max and Garden District is 2 1/2* .. so if I enter 3* chances are I am not going to get those two zones?
  11. The goal is to keep the cost down. Don't want to spend a lot more for the quarter or downtown. Would like to try the first two adding in the third later. But if the convenience of the quarter is worth the extra, would be willing to pay for it. Really Don't want to go over 100 a night. That would probably be the max but I don't know what would be realistic. Since we won't be getting a car till Monday I guess that money saved could be put into hotel. Say a max of 120 a night. So I guess from your post it would be the least expensive 3* or better in the FQ/downtown first adding in the third (or all three f that's a better strategy).
  12. Minimum 3 star hotel in the FQ , The downtown and the convention cent warehouse/arts district.. Listed in order of preference.
  13. Swag, Thanks a lot for the reply. Answers a lot of my questions! :) We are arriving at 3:30 on Saturday on Amtrak (Enterprise is right around the corner and they close at 4:00 so it would be cutting it close) but we are flying out of MSY on Thursday at 1:45 pm. I would like to pick up the car from Enterprise and return it to the airport. I will look into the other agencies as well. I did look at the rental costs and most of them were at least double to price to rent from the airport.. Crazy... 212 downtown and 389 at the airport for the same time periods.. -Joe
  14. Hello, all. I am looking at May 19-21. We will be renting a car as well, as we are bowling in Baton Rouge on the following Tuesday and Wednesday. So with that into consideration, would it be wise to get the car when we get into town on Saturday, or wait until Monday when we are leaving? I am seeing most properties in the FQ have $28/day parking fees. If we bid on Downtown, will we need a car and are there large parking fees there as well? Is a car really needed? I would like to spend around $100/night as well, but lower would be fantastic, maximum would probably be in the $120 range, as it seems I can book directly for those rates. I am not sure what star levels would be appropriate. I have not been to New Orleans before so I am not sure what type of things we'd like to do there. I know I'd like to visit the FQ and Bourbon street. I am 29 and my traveling companion is 62 (but still is still willing and able to do everything from walking distances to staying out late). Thank you, Joe
