  1. The first day I tried bidding for a 3 star starting in the airport area @$72 then adding Newport at $74, Laguna at $76 then Spectrum at $78..all refused. I stopped bidding because I didn't want to add areas or lower from 3 star because there are a couple of 2.5 star and 2 stars in the airport area Im not fond of. I think the 2 star airport area Express Deal was the Comfort Suites@ $71. It gets decent ratings, Im just not crazy about that hotel. But if I would have failed again, I think I might have bid on it The following day I started bidding for a 2 Star at $72 in Newport refused, added Laguna @ $74 refused, added San Clemente @$75 and it was accepted I am happy with my outcome and looking forward to the Ramada since they routinely get $120+ during summer and tripadvisor ranks it a 3 star. I used the Better Bidding PRICELINE link for both my search and bidding
  2. Like Aaron suggested, there are some great deals near ORD. A quick look for your dates, shows a 2.5 star in Schaumburg PE Express 8+ rating for $50. If you have a car thats about as good as it gets...I would take a 2.5 in Schaumburg over a 3 around ORD anyday..and Schaumburg has the BEST Lou Malnatis deep dish pizza in the metro area(IMO)
  3. I was in Chicago last night and tried bidding last minute, no dice. Prices were so high, I made the long drive home instead The prices are really firm right now because everybody is stuck at OHare due to the heavy storms, flooding & cancelled flights. Weather is clearing up, so prices should moderate soon as stranded visitors can leave
  4. Click Orange County, then a new set of cities can be viewed Other than the Laguna Cliiffs Marriott(its really Dana Point), once long ago I got the Doubletree(it was a 4 star hilton then) on Hotwire. The best deal in the area is the Holiday Inn Express in North San Clemente that is often on Hot.wire
  5. I have always received acceptable rooms from PL and Hotwire. The only case when I received a bad room and was told I couldnt change because of the agency, it was Orbitz. But the WORST room was booked directly with Westin, they gave me a room that was used for meetings, wreaked of smoke, unclean, stained furniture w/a crikety bed that folded out of the wall Orbitz gave me a credit, Westin didnt...go figure
  6. In the top right corner, is it still saying you are a Hotwire Express member? If your purchases fall below a certain number, they discontinue your Express status
  7. I promised to report back on this hotel. I had a pleasant stay and feel its worth the Priceline rates. Thin walls, stained carpet, and minor cosmetic issues really wont discourage me from bidding on this 3 star. Because otherwise, its a nice, clean hotel in the heart of downtown with a friendly staff
  8. A wild guess would be the Hotel Hacienda Real del Caribe let the board know where you go with this one
  9. When I went to Israel and Jordan, I found Booking.com had the greatest selection of properties. And they worked fine for almost every city but Eilat, where kayak linked me to a hotel directly. In Jerusalem I stayed in the American Colony section of E Jerusalem, at the Ritz hotel. It was a fine budget 4 star next to the UN facility, but I dont know if I would stay there again with the riots they have had since. If I were to go again after looking around, I would probably go with MT Zion hotel. Its a nice 4 star in a great location for tourists
  10. I think you got a really good deal on an excellent hotel in Paris, BUT you might have booked the 2 person rate and not the 3 person rate your winning post implies. If so, keep in mind that Parisian hotels and hotels in Europe often charge for extra people and beds. I might suggest emailing the hotel and asking for a room that will work for 3 so there are no surprises when you checkin
  11. I remember hunting Hot.wire for a deal on Barbados, ended up paying retail to stay at Oceans 2 across the street because of location. We turned down a Hot.wire deal at the Hilton because this location is better. There are two good beaches that are a short walk, and its 15 min walk to the Gap. We did eat a few times at Oceans 15, its a popular restaurant bar with good breakfast, lunch and happy hour specials. Even though Tripadvisor rates it a 3.5 star, that is a stretch. But the location is great and I think $84 is a good price
  12. I think 2 of those came up when I was searching my dates. Like yellowdog, I felt the 5 star was the Mondrien, but I thought the Novotel City South was another possibility along w/ H10 for the 4star
  13. If you check Better Biddings 'Hotel List' tab, you can see the amenities reported with each hotel. The Old Town Hilton has been reported with several different sets but none with a casino. Notable differences is 'pet friendly and laundry' amenities in some sets for the Old Town Hilton From the amenities reported with your inquiry, I would guess the Hilton Prague not the Old Town Hilton
  14. The only 5 star hotel on the Hotwire list of reported wins with a casino I see is the Hilton Prague. You might check their website and see if they have that small resort fee for more evidence. With a 90% approval, it looks hard to go wrong with this one
  15. I didnt realize your $159 was all inclusive for 2 nights, I thought it was a per night number. Still, consider that 4* w/100% approval and 4.5 TA rating...imo, its a deal
  16. For the same price you are getting in the 19th arrd for a Tripadvisor 3.5, you can get a Hotwire 4 star in the Notre Dame/Marais area with a 100% approval and 4.5 TA rating. Unless you have a good reason to be in the 19th, this is one of those golden properties you can find on HW. The Hotel Parc St Severin is a possible match and my guess
  17. Have you checked Price.line? There are some good PRICELINE EXPRESS deals with high ratings w/your desired price. imo- I wouldnt take a property that had a low 35% approval on Hot.wire without really examining the possibilities as you are considering one in Bloomsbury - St. Pancras Station - British Museum area. I think that property is the Opulence Hotel if you want to check them out on Tripadvisor
  18. You probably already know this, but an important part of your research will include trying to identify properties with those found on Better Bidding Hotwire & Priceline hotel lists. I didnt check the properties above In general with well rated properties 70% or above you have a chance to identify them, unrated ones are more difficult
  19. Yes, These are non refundable so reasearching the area of the city you want , hotel quality wanted and price you are willing to pay is important. Example as a pure tourist: If I were short on money with just a few nights to visit Paris, I would hunt for something INSIDE the Paris Peripherique. Hotwire has a gambler special 3* at $52/nt in Montmarte/Moulin Rouge w/no rating. Or better, the Oprea Granier at $75 on HW. However, If I could stretch it, I would try for something in a prime area like the Latin Quarter/Marais/Opera East or West... lesser Champs Elysess/Effiel There is a 3* PRICELINE EXPRESS deal for $90/nt Champs Elysess on your dates with a 7+ PL rating..thats very acceptable in my book. Or you might try NYOP $78 Champs Elysess if rejected add Latin Q @$81 if rejected add Marais @$84 if rejected add Opera West @$86 if rejected add Opera East @$88 if rejected take the PRICELINE EXPRESS deal @$90 Your rebid zones are all premium, so if you get lucky you might get a 3 star there. I am not suggesting you do the above, but rather a type of strategy to can use for your special case.
  20. I would recommend the El Ranchito, great food good prices if you want white table cloth expensive Mexican, there is a place in the outdoor spectrum mall. Its good, but pricey. I cant remember the name, but their margaritas are like $8. I had on the bone Carnitas there. Like I said good, but overpriced for mexican. The Hotwire 3 star looks like the Laguna Hills Lodge, by the amenity set, TA and HW rating. Its a nice older property but a notch below the HI
  21. Really nice win That property is near two of my favorite restaurants when Im in CA. You can walk to Peppinos for Italian, and probably the best Japanese IVe had in the States is Fukada a few minutes away @Irvine Center/405. I think the last time I was there I had a HUGE piece of fresh well prepared Chilean Sea Bass with several sides for sub $20...unbeatable
  22. It turned out we needed a room(s) for the 6th-10th, not just the 9th/10th While the 7/9 price was $93, the 6th-10th Express Price was $107. We started bidding for 2 rooms at $93 in Kensington, added Bloombury, Mayfair, & Westminster up to $99 and was declined, never received a counter. Instead of 2 rooms, we opted for a 3 star triple room w/breakfast for $170 from a intl chain hotel in Kensington If we were 100% sure the Tara wouldnt have been a possiblity, we would have gladly bid higher for a 4 star. Thank you thereuare and yellowdog We are looking forward to our trip to the UK and the great deals we found here on Hot.wire and Price.line. We always use Better bidding links for our searches and purchases
