  1. Distance to the subway was almost a breaking point in renting the place. But finding a place with 2 bathrooms for $300/night was hard to pass up. We've stayed upper east before in a vacation-home-rental and walked 3 blocks to the subway. So we'll deal. On the nosey. We have 9 of us paid and committed. We have up to 5 speculating. If all come through that would be 2 rooms. (we girls are chummy and don't mind sharing) Just to share: this started as a birthday get together and has blossomed into a wedding. Hence the added interest. So, there's going to be birthday, celebrating, wedding, celebrating, a little sight seeing, and some celebrating. This is a close the bar down crowd. This is also a fashion conscious crowd, so there'll be costume changes (and probably cocktail priming) in the early evenings. Trying to think like them, I'd put this between no and absolutely not. I always do :) In the hours since, I've hotel mapquested the address and found a couple of places that may do. We're really looking for beds for these people; any activity will be taking place at the apartment or on the town. St Marks Hotel has great reviews around the internet, and a 2-bed room goes for $170. Bonus - it's only 4 blocks away. Do you think given the complexity of our set up, our budget, and location this might be a better plan? Appreciating the input as always. :)
  2. The fact that it's a new zone helps explain why there aren't any wins posted here. I'd need Oct 1 - 5. The apartment is in the East Village, 10th & 1st Ave. Four Points looks to be about a mile and a half away. Basically, we've rented a 3 bdr, 2 loft, 2 bath apartment, and are heading towards a guest list 14 people long rather than the original 6 to 8. We're all for roughing it for a good time, but no one wants to sleep on a floor for 4 nights. I'm thinking max bid should be $200, $150 if we can get away with it. ETA: Do hotels lower their acceptable bid price for multiple room reservations?
  3. I have need to bid for a hotel in the Chelsea area for the first weekend in Oct. A core group of us have rented an apartment for the stay, but more people keep wanting to join, so I'm trying to find a hotel not too far away. I've been all over gathering info. It seems that I can bid Chelsea for 3* with rebids in Long Island City, Upper East and Upper West. Also, the only 3* listed in the Chelsea listing here is Four Points Sheraton. That location wouldn't be too shabby at all. What I haven't been able to find is any winning bids for the area. Does no one purposely try to stay in this area? :) With so few rebid areas, I wanted my first bid to be smart. Also, with no winning bids posted, how do we feel about the completeness of our Chelsea hotel listing here? Thanks for any help!
  4. Started the bidding at $50 and went up in $5 increments. Tried a few days ago to get Downtown at same * level, and gave up after $88. My friend lives just east of downtown, so figured I'd save some money and stay in Bellevue. Used PRICELINE link at the top of page. Thanks guys! :) Oh: 2 nights at $70 came to $168.88. For those wondering about taxes and such.
  5. Thanks for all the feedback. I thought about it and decided staying downtown was more important to me than saving $10-20. So I went back in today and started at $60 for 3*. I got the Marriott Renaissance for $76. So I guess you can change the thread title. :) Thanks for the tips, and yes, I used the PRICELINE link here when I bid. :)
  6. Last minute decision to see a Mariner's game, so looking for a hotel (coming from Spokane). Thought I'd see if I could get a deal on a 4* first, then move down to 3*. Downtown - 4* - $70 Add Lake Union - 4* - $75 Add Lynnwood - 4* - $80 Same - 4* AND 3* - $45 Add Everett - 3&4* - $50 Add N Everett - 3&4* - $55 Add Bothell - 3&4* - $60 That's it. U of WA, Renton, SeaTac, and Bellevue all have 3* and up, so I was done. Is this too last minute to get a deal? If I try again tomorrow (can I go again that soon?) will I have a chance? Should I go read up on the 2 1/2 stars that go for Downtown? Thanks for any guidance. :)
  7. Bid Revere Logan, $45 Added Brighton, $55 Added Medford, $65 - done. :) Only one 4* showing on Hotwire just prior, for $186. Hilton's online price, $199.
  8. Having JUST taken a look at the subway sitch for my gf arriving at JFK, I see that "A" line runs from the JFK Airtrain, straight into the financial district. Here's a link. That's all the help a non-resident can provide. :) Also, I just got Downtown/Soho 4* for $175. Granted that's for a couple of weeks from now. My thread is up. :)
  9. Hey, we scrimp it up on the hotels & airfare (half of us are getting there on miles) so that we CAN spend too much money while we're there. :) Thanks again.
  10. Have I told you all before how much I love this site? Well, I do. You
  11. Date of stay: Nov 3, 2005, Thursday Priceline paid: $65 Star rating: *** This is back to back with the Holiday Inn Express, on Dexter Ave about 3 blocks from the space needle. The choice here by Priceline was very helpful, as I was staying for an event at Key Arena. That alone made it a good deal. When we arrived, I went to the desk and gave them my name. There was no mention of Priceline, just the usual check-in. Parking was only $4.50 for our stay, the garage being under the building with a key-entry door. Very safe looking and feeling once we drove in - clean too. I was happy to pay it. Elevator runs a might slow, mostly because you can't encourage the doors to shut with the button. When we got to the room, it was so incredibly clean and tidy. I was pleased. The layout was very logical, so they fit a lot in. They had given us two doubles, and a room with a fridge, microwave, separate sink and disposable plates & utensils. The fridge was nice and cold (hate when you have to turn them on to get them going). Our 5th floor room looked out over the King5 station, and even though we saw the helicopter leave their roof at least twice, we could barely hear it. Bathroom had everything necessary, and a note to let them know if you had forgotten anything they could provide. Free internet in your room, and they'll provide the cables if you've forgotten yours at home. My only complaint was that there was no breakfast in the lobby to come down to. Not even some coffee and/or tea to take with you as you go out the door. It's not that I was promised any, that's just something I'm used to - have a glass of juice and a muffin while you get ready to head out. Oh well. Overall our stay was uneventful and very restful. Will stay again, Priceline or not.
  12. I love this site. I love everyone here. I love the hotel gods that have smiled on me today. :) I was getting a bit desperate. My friends had booked The Westin during a sale for $119/night. They called and said hey we found a good price for our long weekend, we're staying here. I thought, $120 a night is no bargain. I'm in Spokane and have never really visited Portland. I'll find something better. Unh-uh. I looked and I searched and I scrounged. I've been on so many hotel sites, and travel agency type sites searching for a deal. I thought I was screwed. Finally, today, 3 weeks out. I found someone here made mention of how you can rebid and rebid for 4*'s in Portland, since Downtown is the only area to have them. My eyes opened wide, I leaned forward... oh reh-heh-heally? I tried it. $75, $80, $85, $90 - BINGO! As I scrolled down, I couldn't believe it. I got the Westin. We're going to be in the same hotel - and they'll never be the wiser! :) Thanks again for all the help here. It made all the difference. :o
  13. *Update* 3* accepted at $65 (after a reject at $60) - Holiday Inn Not an amazing deal given the hotel won, but I'm pleased since my stay is for an event at the Key Arena, not even 7 blocks away. :) Total with tax & fees is less than they are stating on their site. Not sure what star rating Hotwire gives this place, but there is currently a 2 1/2 for $72, and a 3 for $84. Thanks for all the help this site gave me. Made all the difference! :)
  14. Oh sure, I can wait. It's your experience that more hotels are added to the list in this area closer to the date? I can live with that. :)
  15. I guess I'm the take it slow kind. :) Here's my latest attempt: 3* Downtown $45 - failed 3* Downtown & Lake Union $50 - failed 2 1/2* Downtown $45 - failed 2 1/2* Downtown & Lake Union $48 - failed I'll go take a look at the Hotwire breakdown. Thanks. :) ETA: Here's the breakdown from Hotwire (not a great number to choose from) Downtown: 2* = 56 2 1/2* = 66 3* = 89 Lake Union: 3 1/2* = 84 Pike Place: 2* = 73 2 1/2* = 85 3* = 90 3 1/2* = 77 (:)) Anyone care to analyze these? :o You know, it's a pretty big event (in the circles I run), could this be keeping the selection small this far out, or is it hotels not submitting rooms for sale yet? Thanks for any thoughts.
  16. Thank you for the replies. :o I had NOT taken a close look at the "Downtown" boundaries. :) It extends nearly to Pioneer Square - - wasn't expecting that. I'm booking for an event at the Seattle Center, and I was hoping for something in the general vicinity. But, if I can catch a deal, it would be worth the hassle of fighting traffic. :) I'll let you know.
  17. I roamed through this site educating myself on the best way to approach Priceline. I thought it only fair that I post my findings thus far. :) 3* Downtown $40 - failed 3* Downtown & Lake Union $45 - failed 2 1/2* Downtown $42 - failed 2 1/2* Lake Union $44 - failed I was hoping to catch a deal on such an odd night (Thursday in early November), but I guess I will wait the 72 hours and rebid starting at $50 for 3*. Any comments in the meantime would be appreciated. :) Thanks for the very helpful site.
