  1. Thanks -- but I ended up deciding to stay with a friend of mine. I did take 4* upto $166 in Downtown/Copley and the Airport, as well as 3* to $125 in Logan and Copley -- definitely something going on this particular day.
  2. Just reporting my lack of results. I'm shooting for a 4* hotel in Boston Backbay for one night 10/21-10/22 via SavingsBarn.com and no luck as far as $131 after walking it all the way from $81. According to the Convention Checker, the chemistry convention is in town around this time. :)
  3. Near last minute reservation (next day). Started with a $66 bid, based on other members' experiences. Rejected. Re-bid $70 and was accepted.
  4. Started with a 4* Irvine bid for $70 -- rejected. added Newport and upped the bid to $75 and was accepted.
  5. Going for business and figured I'd save some money. Chicago Millennium Park, Loop & Grant Park Area for 5/5/07 to 5/7/07. First bid of $190/night (based on conference weekend and above poster getting $200 for 4* in NMA) was accepted right away.
  6. Ooops -- title was too long: 2.5* Oakland-Eastbay (Berkeley-Emeryville) Courtyard By Marriott Emeryville, $75, 7/6/07-7/8/07 Started off too high -- $75 was the first offer and accepted right away. I was hoping for the Doubletree Marina (where I have a group staying) but this is half-price, so acceptable.
  7. By the way, if you have a car, you can sometimes save yourself a few more bucks by looking for street-parking on W.98th street (behind the hotel) rather than using hotel parking (something like $15/day). Street-parking tends to be hard to come by, however.
  8. I chose my bid based on previous posters (thanks guys!) -- and my bid was accepted on the first go! I guess I could have gone a little lower...
  9. Well, in the end for the night of 12/12 (Monday night), I took it up as far as $290 on Priceline for 4* in Soho and Midtown locations -- and no luck. I was rather surprised with the pricing difference relative to 12/11 (Sunday night). I ended up staying in a friend's apartment since he went out of town. Thanks for the guidance!
  10. I should have mentioned that -- yes I'm willing to split the bids to different dates. What do you have in mind?
  11. I realize this coming weekend is a busy weekend in New York, but I'm looking for a room for the Sunday/Monday following the weekend. Ideally, we want to stay in Soho at a 4* establishment -- but as an alternative, we're willing to stay 4* at a Mid-town location. I'm having a hard time getting a sense of how expensive these dates are going to be. So far based previous posts, I've bid on PL: 1) 4* (Downtown - SoHo - Financial District) - $200 -- rejected 2) 4* (Downtown - SoHo - Financial District) - $230 -- rejected Before I start bidding up further, does anyone have a good idea as to what the appropriate price point for these dates are?
  12. This is a new one to add to the Priceline Hotel List. (admin?) I've was hunting for a place to stay for one Saturday night (12-Nov-05) during peak Resort season in Arizona -- I had Scottsdale in mind specifically. I started bidding at $96, $106 and $116 and was finally accepted at $126 ($150.11 after taxes). I used the downtown area and the airport to get extra bidding in. Warning: if you start bidding by clicking on 4* hotels, resort button will be checked automatically. The better strategy might be start bidding for a Resort and then click on 4* (assuming you're willing to stay at a resort classified as a 4* hotel). PS: I forgot to use SavingsBarn.com -- sorry!
  13. There was this: Thread about SavingsBarn.com. BTW, the parking at this hotel is $13/night with in/out privileges, which I thought was rather high for the area...
  14. Thanks to the previous poster for the information -- This is exactly the hotel I needed. I bid $55 and the bid was accepted on the first go!
  15. Started hunting for 3* LAX location starting at $42 and walked it up in $1 and $2 increments to $50. The last rejected bid was $48. I added pretty much every alternative location except Downtown and Manhattan Beach. I got this reservation one night before check-in.
  16. This is for a Friday to Thursday stay, and I walked my bid all the way from $53 to $65 before it was accepted. The last bid that was rejected was at $63. It seems to make a big difference for this property whether you are staying in the weekday or weeknight. It's an airport hotel, afterall. For what I believe to be the same hotel, on hotwire is was $77, $77, $71 on Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights and became $104, $128, $123 on Mon, Tue, Wed nights.
  17. I've frequently used downtown LA hotels for my work -- but I still haven't found a good place to park. Hotel parking run generally $25 or $30 per night (with free in/out previledges) and public parking in the area typically charge $15 for overnight parking. Even motorcycles get charged these rates. An alternative is to park on the street and risk getting towed at 8am. Does anyone know of a good alternative or good places to park?
  18. Another late post, but better late than never.... I tried lower bids first (upto $80) and then won at $85. ----- Check-In Date: Friday, August 26, 2005 Check-Out Date: Monday, August 29, 2005 Hotel Name: Marriott Copley Place 110 Huntington Avenue Boston, Massachusetts 02116 617-236-5800 Your Offer Price: $85.00 Number of Rooms: 1 Number of Nights: 3 Subtotal: $255.00 Taxes and Service Fees: $42.75 Total Charges: $297.75
  19. I'm posting this late, but I also got this off of Priceline. PS: I didn't think the Millennium Biltmore was anywhere nearly as nice as Westin Bonaventure, which is also another 4* hotel in Downtown Los Angeles. Compared to the Bonaventure, the Bilmore is older, has thinner walls (can hear traffic) and less comfortable beds. ------ Check-In Date: Monday, August 22, 2005 Check-Out Date: Thursday, August 25, 2005 Hotel Name: Millennium Biltmore Hotel 506 South Grand Avenue Los Angeles, California 90071-2607 213-624-1011 Your Offer Price: $78.00 Number of Rooms: 1 Number of Nights: 3 Subtotal: $234.00 Taxes and Service Fees: $43.54 Total Charges: $277.54
  20. I bid awhile ago and never got around to posting. This is for a Saturday night (9/17, regularly $299) and a Sunday night (9/18, regularly $199). I bid $202 and was immediately accepted -- probably could have gone lower. :)
