  1. Priceline only guarantees double occupancy so you MUST bid two rooms. Hotwire, on the other hand, will allow you to request hotels for 4 adults, but in Paris, precisely, I doubt there are many hotels that will come up on that search. The size of the room will depend on the hotel, but in general, European hotel rooms are NOT large and spacious, and the bathrooms follow the same suit. However, they are perfectly adequate in my opinion. If you do a search above for PARIS, you will be able to see all the winning bids that have been posted. Study up and see what you come up with.
  2. Very early, but was giving it a try. Started at 4* $55 and went eventually with free bids to $70 for 4* Logan Airport. Hotel prices and Hotwire look fairly high to me, although I am not that familiar with the hotel normal fees. I hope prices come down before the summer. We have a very late night stopover and early flight out, so the airport is where we want to be.
  3. When searching for hotels etc. at these websites, google first to see if there are any coupons/promo codes online. I was successful through the Hotels.com link here to reduce my London hotel bill by 10% with a code I found online. I was also looking at a hotel through Expedia that accepted their promo code also. Always good to try to find these online promos, and then apply them here through the search/support links. FROST11 for Expedia and 139274 for Hotels.com. Good luck. There may be more out there for more websites. These are the only two I tried and saw the promo was applied to final price. This website gives so much information, saves us so much money.. let's support them!
  4. Amazing rates can be had at the Hiltons worldwide including breakfast and late check out... Budapest $69. The weekend "begins" on different days at different hotels. Sometimes as early as Wednesday.. others typically Friday through Sunday. Book before January 31st but available all year. Don't forget to use the hotel support travel link here!
  5. We stayed here a couple nights in July 2010. It was a fantastic hotel in a great location. We walked to markets, the bus depot for a trip to York, and there were many nice restaurants, beauty salons, etc. nearby as it is off a very central street. Since it is not in sight from the road, we did have to explain to more than one taxi driver exactly how to get into the alleyway that approaches the hotel and plaza it is on. Typical Marriott room with wonderful amenities and comfy beds. No complaints or unusual negative observations. Staff was very friendly and courteous. Bid low to start in this town. We won it at $49 on the first priceline bid!
  6. I have never seen shuttles at ORD charge.. nor anywhere at any of the American airports I have visited. Google the location of all the 4* hotels one usually wins on Priceline to see how close/far they are. They should be fine. I wouldn't worry about it too much as they are fairly clustered within 10-15 minutes of terminals. Check Hotwire also as you may be able to decipher the EXACT hotel that way.
  7. This is very risky. Try using HOTWIRE through the links here and then start checking the other support links for special deals. Good luck. Even if a third person FIT in the room, you MAY be asked to pay a third person FEE at check in.
  8. ha ha! my daughter asked the same thing! But in this case, I really doubt I can be tempted as few 4* PRICELINE hotels get the rating the melia does.. and unless I start seeing wins at some great 4* for my date at a better price ( would have to be under $90).. I think this is a keeper. special birthday trip, so, in this particular case, the temptation to go with the unknown is much less. I was so glad that coupon worked. You can probably get 10% off with an Expedia frost11 coupon or the Hotels.com 139274. when I was looking at the hiltons I was able to do so on one of those websites.. not sure which one it was. yes, the bidding is addictive. and usually FUN. Was NOT the case since early December. One gets spoiled from past amazing deals and assumes next time will be similar or only a LITTLE more expensive. You can tell I have very little work. Never spent so much unsuccessful time bidding in my life. I wouldn't risk 3 in a room most places. You could get stuck with an extra person fee even if they DID allow the third person ( assuming he even FITS). Nothing on HOTWIRE for you?
  9. Fortunately I didn't win anything on Priceline after going up to $100 in Kensington, and higher closer to the river.., nor did I take an unidentified Hotwire hotel. I found through the support link here a 48 hr sale on the Melia White House for my dates , PLUS a Hotels.com 10% off coupon I found googling online. Total 4 nights at Melia White ( spent a few days here once for a convention and it is really a nice hotel), no breakfast, incl. tax... $519. The Hilton Olympia with breakfast came back down to $542 with the Expedia FROST11 coupon, but compared to the Meli
  10. Thanks for all the support. I will obviously just have to spend a LOT more for these nights in London than I had expected/ "hoped"! I am sure something will come up soon. The lastminutetravel does have some nice hotels (I like Park Plaza county hall) for about $170/night with breakfast. I wish there were a support link here still.
  11. All hotel prices now have skyrocketed. This is starting to look grim as I have not booked a cancelable reservation yet.. ( had hoped to receive something before this). The Hilton Olympia has now gone way up as have a couple hotwire hotels. Looks like I will be going higher than I hoped once my 24 hours is up.
  12. yea.. a bit envious at most of the winning bids lately. well.. now have bid up to $94 Chelsea/Knight.. $98 in RPark/ Kens/The City getting $25 counteroffers after $90 $100 in Mayfair/Westminster/Bloomsbury getting $25 counteroffers after $99 and the hilton deals are rising in price.. so not a happy camper yet. Now I am really feeling pressured to do something. Hotwire has a 4* Kens for $109 which looks like it may be the Millennium Bailey's ( by reviews.. small rooms but great location)if all else fails and it is still available when I make this decision. The $79 Kensington 3* is gone, as are a couple "interesting" offers i saw on a website with breakfast included for NH hotels. Done for tonight!
  13. I have already scoured those "offers" and nothing seems to come up for my dates.. feb 16-20.. or worst case scenario.. feb 17-20. Hilton seems to be the only one with a substantial OFFER, however, not prime location and not excellent reviews. I may still go with the Olympia ( only one available all four nights with discount) since I have stayed there before and had no complaints and know the neighborhood, although I will pursue bidding the more central areas a bit.
  14. Have gone up to $97 again in May/Blooms/West/The CIty. Receiving constant $25 counteroffers. Have gone up to $93 in the Ken area. Hope to close this up this week . Getting totally bored, Not even fun like it usually is! LOL!
  15. Please always recheck these ID's before purchase. Number 1231761 is not THE 4* Mint Hotel , but another Mint place, ( for example). new additions from my tedious search 1205154 Park Plaza County Hall 4* 1221517 Park Plaza Westmintster Bridge 4.5* 1201483 Holiday Inn Gatwick 18877 Europa Hotel
  16. I thought you had booked that harrington hall also. I am also now thinking that if our flight is late, we will have to take the Gatwick Express instead of much cheaper Southern line into london.. ( the Southern line doesn't run all night).. so maybe an airport hotel is a good idea. Which means I could start all the bidding all over again with different dates. Too many variables right now once the bidding was so disappointing. My expectations were higher.. ( from past experience). I have to readjust my approach.. or spend more money or go cheap. I usually am very lucky and can go cheap, but with a bit more luxury than a 3*. Do you know that if I book that 3* only from the 17th til the 20th it is down to $62/night!!!!! ( If I were going alone, I would have no doubts)..save the money, forego the POSSIBLE luxury. Will the Hilton Kensignton ( 17th-20th with 50% discount) be a LOT more luxurious? A LOT better located? Positives.. I think the location will be NICER.. and the rooms and lobby and public areas NICER. Beds are usually not queens, though ( I called the hotel) . A couple buses at the door.MAYBE as I am Hilton Honors, I MAY get a nicer room. Negatives: Price difference 4 nights Hotwire 3* $329 (90% sat.) THREE nights Hilton K 4* $440 ( 76-80% sat.) + must stay somewhere else ( Gatwick.. $100) that one night. Total.. $540 but we will have a HILTON breakfast three mornings and late check out the 20th. These customer satisfactions are all over the map, too, depending on where you look. Oh well. Still scouring websites for other possibilities. I think it was Travelocity ( used support link here for the searches) had the NH Kensington for $109 a night for awhile ( no breakfast excluding taxes). But now that is gone.
  17. Thanks for the suggestions but I have gone up way past $90, including RP. I also on the Marriott once and loved it. We used the convenient bus once to go into town and back on the tube. HOTWIRE, however, in some instances, rates hotels LOWER than PRICELINE (Copthorne Tara, for example). The 3* with breakfast, 90% satisfaction has now gone down to $79/night for my dates.. so the temptation is rising, however, I am still looking at the Hilton Kensington as their calendar is back up offering Thursday-Sunday at a low price with breakfast. I will still have to stay elsewhere on Wednesday, so there is a big trade-off for going the Hilton route, as far as convenience is. Or, the Olympia, although it has been downgraded to a 3* on Priceline.. it will allow the breakfast rate 50% off from Thursday.I did stay there once a few years ago and didn't mind it. Not sure if being Hilton Honors will get me a better room. I understand there are very varied in appearance and size. P.S. I would NEVER count on any PRICELINE hotel allowing more than 2 people in the hotel. There have been some horror stories of HUGE payments for extra beds, or in some cases it not even being ALLOWED and having to buy an extra room upon registration. I am doing my searches through your links here, and hotel support page links also. My problem now is just deciding whether we stay at a 3* or spend about $180 more for a 4* hilton for the 4 nights, and in one of the cases have to change hotels from wed to thursday. I think a 3* Hotwire with 90% satisfaction should be fine, but no less still a 3*.
  18. I think that hotel is going to be fine. Rarely do you see a 4 out of 5 trip advisor that's not a fine place. The only lower mark it gets is for location. However, buses stop at the door, I think, and I am fonder of buses anyway and like to learn a new route here and there instead of always going underground and walking a few blocks to the tube. The price with the low taxes is a real bargain, as usually taxes/fees on Priceline are almost one night's stay when you stay for four nights.Other hotels on Hotwire have much higher taxes/fees than that 3*, too. Expedia has the hidden secret hotels, too, and they coincide with the Hotwire list, but the fees and taxes are lower. So check them out, too, through the support page link when searching if you are considering Hotwire. You still have a LONG time before your trip, if I recall.. so probably no need to even do this now. There may be some more sales in the future you can take advantage of with breakfast, etc. Or more hotel rooms may be available with Priceline. Good luck, whatever you do.
  19. Frankly, who knows? I have won the Copthorne Tara and had a nice room and found it fine for the price I paid. I think all the other 4* hotels won in Kens/EC are better reviewed than the Copthorne, so should not be too bad. Everything is just more expensive the dates I want to go , so I will have to deal with it. I see the taxes go up.. then down.. Pretty funny. That Holiday Inn gets good reviews.. better than some 4 stars one can win, which is why I am considering it. I am not sure if closer to the date I will have something better and cheaper. The Hilton is having a 50% off sale thursdays thru Sundays but the deal is not available any longer for MY weekend at the cheaper options ( Olympia and Kensington)and I was seriously thinking about that one as it includes breakfast.. a HITON breakfast. so.. that was a good deal although I was then left with the Wednesday at a very high price or stay at airport when we get in very late (11pm) I hope to have this wrapped u soon.
