  1. First bid so potential overbid Your Offer Price: $60.00 Number of Rooms: 1 Number of Nights: 1 Subtotal: $60.00 Taxes & Service Fees: $15.30 Total Charges: $75.30 I've scored 4* properties in this zone for ~ $42 before, but as is often the case I want a bargain but I also don't have much time to devote to rebids, so I started at a price I was fairly confident I'd get a hit.
  2. In a whole series of bids, I went all the way down to $125 for a 2.5* for Crystal City, Arlington, Capitol Hill/Convention Center, Downtown, Georgetown. Most hotels sold out for these dates anyway, so not surprising. Ultimately used an arrangement through work where I get space available apartment suites in the FDIC's residential housing for $100. :)
  3. Was completely unsuccessful in NYC for this coming Monday night. No surprise, as every property I would have considered was completely sold out! In the end I nabbed an award night at the Sheraton Russell. Turns out that it was the last room available there, too! (In fact every SPG property in Manhattan was, at least as of yesterday noontime, completely sold out -- all 13 of them!) Travel picks up, fewer opportunities for picking up distressed inventory. At the same time, though, I recently nabbed 12 room nights at the Grand Hyatt in DC for less than $70/night when the prepaid web rate on the Hyatt website was $300... so deals still exist!
  4. It's interesting that plenty of mid-level chains offer free WiFi while higher end properties generally charge (though there are exceptions). Many folks seem to think that it's a way to gouge people willing to pay $200+/night for a room (if they'll pay that they'll pay more) and others are offended (If I'm already paying $200, why nickel and dime me another $10). But the hotels have another take on this. The Hilton Garden Inn chain and similar competing brands are populated primarily by business travelers tring to work as efficiently as possible, a very high percentage of their guests want and use the service. Higher end properties believe that their guests are less likely to use and value the service, so the investment that goes into free WiFi makes less sense for them. They're probably able to offer a pay service where the costs to them are low (the per-day fees likely accrue to the outside vendor setting up the service). They choose not to make the capital outlay for something their guests aren't going to value, or so the thinking goes. It wouldn't get enough bang for the buck.
  5. Priceline has broken out Lower Manhattan/Financial District/SoHo/Tribeca and now has two zones: South Street Seaport-Financial District SoHo - TriBeCa Area The (4) properties listed under New York City (Lower Manhattan) in the Priceline hotel list would all be in the SSS/Financial District zone. There are definitely times when I would have wanted to stay in SoHo/Tribeca but not the financial district, so this split is definitely good news! The new zone is not a rebid however as there are most certainly 4* properties that priceline is working with in the new zone.

(Though the geographic limitation doesn't apply to the Delta Amex -- all holders of that card can take advantage of the offer apparently.)
  11. About 800 were booked, tickets are being honored. From the Rocky Mountain News
  12. Signup and Get a $5 Coffee Card, Plus $20 More When You Book a Hotel or Flight Link They'll send you an email in about 12 hours asking for your address to send the card to.
  13. It's actually amazing to me that Priceline DOESN'T do more direct marketing. Sure they send emails, which makes sense as they're an internet property, but even those aren't really personalized. And I've never seen much targeted marketing from Priceline to get folks to use the service (as opposed to sending email to current registered customers). I'd think they might market to small business owners, for instance, maybe direct mail to holders of business credit cards. And I've always wanted them to institute some sort of loyalty marketing to frequent repeat users! :) (Priceline doesn't seem to show my 2002 bids anymore when I go to my bidding history, but I had ~ 50 successful bids in 2003.)
  14. Your Offer Price: $55.00 Number of Rooms: 1 Number of Nights: 1 Subtotal: $55.00 Taxes & Service Fees: $13.96 Total Charges: $68.96
  15. Your Offer Price: $75.00 Number of Rooms: 4 Number of Nights: 3 Subtotal: $900.00 Taxes & Service Fees: $141.08 Total Charges: $1,041.08
  16. Sorry abot that :) I've seen that $119 rate a bunch of times with the irregular room with the pullout bed.
  17. Hotel is kinda worn, actually plans to shut it down exist... but certainly a great deal at the price. I wish I could remember the name of the place, but best inexpensive breakfast of my life was in a restaurant right across the street from this hotel. A little digging around and you might be richly rewarded! (Of course this was 12 years ago, but I still remember it!)
  18. Only a moments left, I'd guess, and only a few dates still working. Found lots of dates last evening. Just tried JFK-KEF 6/26 - 7/8 and got it to price. Alas my whole June is pretty well booked and I just can't take advantage of the deal.
  19. Great property, convenient to Capitol Hill. IIRC I've gotten it for ~ $65 before on Priceline, but for the dates in question I'd say you're doing very well. Enjoy your stay! :)
  20. I stayed at this hotel on an HHonors award a couple weeks ago, the prepaid internet rate was ~ $280 (at one point it was over $300). It's an all-suites hotel, smallest room is 450 or 500 sq ft which is large for a New York property. Don't know if this was high or low for your particular dates vis a vis what you could have gotten (but probably not too high!) but it's certainly great compared to conventionally available rates for the property. I asked for and received a harbor view, which was nice. Frankly found the bed to be a bit uncomfortable and the furnishings dated, but no big deal. It's in the financial distrct, battery park area, and is really quite dead on the weekends. High speed internet available $10/24 hrs.
  21. While it'll always show registration confirmed when going online, I'm guessing this one is targeted - and in my experience the targeted promos you aren't intended to get don't wind up posting in the end.
