  1. Errr, sorry, didn't recognize that this thread was from last Nov. ! Anyway, I looked it up again, looks like the resort fee is in the range of $20-25 and parking $40. Supposed to be a lovely place though.
  2. I'm a little curious as to whether there will be an additional resort fee of $40 and parking (if you have a car) of $37. I saw this property for under $200 but noted the additional fees mentioned on a review webiste. The extra ~$70 put me off it.
  3. Hello and excuse me for a late comment/question on this topic. I was struck at booking by how much the fees were, and was trying to figure out why. Still satisfied with the result, just curious though.
  4. If I don't stay over the third night, but just check out in the early evening, that won't present any problems, will it?
  5. Thanks so much, it is indeed the K+K George Hotel, 4*. Using the BiddingHelper.com link, I booked three nights, (November 17-18--19), at $103/nite, plus taxes/fees totaling $83 for the three nights. I'm really happy about this as the reviews are great, plus it appears to be just steps from the Earl's Court Station, which I understand has an elevator (I'll have 1 small and 1 larger suitcase). Any other information I should post?
  6. Back at it and I think I am closing in on it. I've decided to do a three day booking if reasonably possible. This morning a search of Kensington-Earl's Court via bidding helper link shows a hotel with 4* and amenities Business Center, Fitness Center, Restaurant, No Smoking rooms, and bed choice available. It also has a 9.0/10 rating. The rate is $103/nite. Maybe the Holiday Inn again, at a slightly better rate? The "bed choice" doesn't exactly match however. Any other guesses? K+K George has bed choice but states free wifi which is not indicated here. ? Thanks again for your patience and help. PS. Just realizing, PEX may also have hotels from the PL bidding list? Reviews of the KKGeorge are overall quite good.
  7. You are awesome. I was attending to parturients continuously all night long and am just getting back to it now. $80/night is beyond satisfactory. I've realized that with my flight departing London at 1040pm, I might be better off taking the room for another day, if I can get it at that price. That way I could stay out all day in London, come back to the hotel, get cleaned up, change clothes, etc. at my leisure. I don't want to leave late checkout to the discretion of the hotel. The results for a three night stay come back (4* with same amenities) come back at $107/night. Doing the third night separately on two searches (same descriptors) gives either $80 or $122. Can I do the two separate bookings and hope to not have to change rooms? Easy questions but a bit confused on no sleep. BTW I looked up sunset for London and it is just after 4pm in mid-November!
  8. Right, thanks AJB. I've seen a few wins for the Doubletree in Kensington for less than $100, and I'm thinking I'll take a shot at it. If not, I'll adjust my budget upward eg. the Holiday Inn, vs. drop my expectations and stay somewhere cheaper eg. a 3* hotel that has decent reviews. That is my working plan at least. Just been interrupted all day and lining things up to start bidding in that direction, wish me luck!
  9. Yes, you are absolutely right, I overlooked "restaurant". Also thanks for steering me to the BiddingHelper.com -- it is to find the already priced deals, which may also give an idea of prices for bidding?
  10. Hello all, Dates Nov 17 - 19 (Fri-Sat nights), prefer easy access to and from LHR. Using the BB link, I am finding on PRICELINE EXPRESS a 4* hotel in Kensington - Earl's Court at $114/night, with the following amenities: Free Internet Bed Choice Business Center Fitness Center Non-Smoking Pool The match I see on the hotels/amenities list is the Kensington Close, which an internet search suggests is now a Holiday Inn. I am going to start bidding as well and will post what I find. Thank you.
  11. Sorry for the tardy response here, been under the weather. Finally went with a "vacation rental" place, paying around $140/night, but nearby, has kitchen for convenience and so forth. Thanks !
  12. OK I went back through the link. Here is what I get Newport Beach 4* $122 FULL AMENITIES: Pet friendly, Airport shuttle, Fitness center, Pool(s), Restaurant(s), Business center, Internet access, Golf nearby, Tennis nearby, Spa services, Accessible for visually impaired, Accessible for hearing impaired, In-room accessibility, Accessible bathroom, Accessible parking, Roll-in shower A few others came up that I might consider Seal Beach 3.5* $131 FULL AMENITIES: Free parking, Free breakfast, Free Internet, Suite, Fitness center, Pool(s), Business center, Self-service laundry, Internet access, Golf nearby, Accessible for visually impaired, Accessible for hearing impaired, Accessible path of travel, In-room accessibility, Accessible bathroom, Accessible parking
  13. Yes, thank you so much YD, I had a feeling that was part of the issue. Right now I'm on the fence about this vs. one of those vacation rentals places. But this clarifies, I was wondering about that amenities list as I had seen that mentioned elsewhere on this forum. What a great resource.
  14. Thanks Gentlemen. That was the part that threw me off, that the Hotel list for Priceline "Express" shows only the two and not the Fairmont. How about this'un ? It is from Hotwire, says it is 4*, in Newport Beach area. 15. Hello All, Need to be up in the Huntington Beach area for a few nights (June 25 - 28) and thought I would give the bidding helper a whirl. The way I am understanding this, is that only certain hotels are in the Priceline "Express" domain. Specifically for the Huntington/Newport area, for 4*, it would be either the Newport Marriott Beach Hotel and Spa, or the Hyatt Regency Newport Beach. Here is what came up, priced at ~$120/night Newport - Huntington Beach Rated 7.0 out of 10 (or higher) Indoor or Outdoor Pool Pets Allowed Restaurant Fitness Center Airport Shuttle Business Center Price per night: $118 Rooms: 1 Nights: 3 Room Subtotal: $354.00 Travel Insurance $0.00 ( DECLINED ) + Add now Recommended! Taxes & Fees: $67.65 Total Price: All prices are in U.S. Dollar. I would be happy at either the Marriott or Hyatt, however, if somehow the Airport Fairmont slipped into the mix, I would have to think it over. What is your take on this ? Thanks !
  16. Thanks Mykel, just looked up this property online and at least from the photos it does look quite nice. But I understand completely your feeling about it. Funny though, I also looked up Le Marianne on Jetsetter but it says "no longer available". (Maybe they discontinued their booking contract?) On Le Marianne's own site the rooms are in the range of $275+ now.
  17. Thanks TUA ! Not sure if I have used the Bidding.Helper before but will give it a look. Best, John
  18. OK just double checked it, and it looks like that was the per room price. Sorry I just got a little confused when I clicked it through the other time. :(
  19. Simple question here. Looking at Paris, for two rooms for four nights, and thought I would see what PRICELINE EXPRESS offered. (Used BB link of course ! ) Price quoted for one option was $285 per night. I couldn't tell if that was per room, or for 2 rooms per night. I picked a really cheap option and clicked it through, but without entering guest names. It showed what the cost and fees would be and it appeared that the quoted price included the cost of both rooms. Seems like a small issue but just a little confusing to me. I don't want to get hit with twice the expense that I expected. 1. Can anyone answer this definitively? 2. Also wondering about the standards for the hotels in Paris, if the three and four star hotels are comparable to what we would expect here. 3. Are weekend or weekday prices more expensive ? I figured weekend so thinking of making the jump over from London during the week but can change plans. Thanks so much. I will post any winning bids or reservations made through PRICELINE EXPRESS. :)
  20. Thanks for the gracious responses. Just a follow up, I was offered a $20 room upgrade when I checked in to the Beverly Hilton, which I declined. There was no pressure and the girl was actually very nice. They let me check in early (around 1230pm), she said they had a lot of rooms available. So I was in what I think was an older wing, my view was of a small parking lot with a park beyond that ie not a premium room but it was fine. The room was smallish but was really quite nice and elegantly appointed. If there was anything that showed its age it was just the nobs on the shower/tub. I had a mission to eat at Umami Burger (it was so-so), but Trader Vic's poolside at the hotel was tempting. Photos of movie stars dating back to the 1920's lined the walls of the common areas, which lent a nice touch. Total damage was around $200, OK as I could only stay one night. Would recommend and would stay there again but would most likely I would look for some place a bit less costly. Really nice experience.
  21. Just saw mentioned on tripadvisor that self-parking is $38, wow that is rather steep.
  22. Here is how it ended up. The thing is, I would have preferred to stay two nights rather than have the stress of a one night turnaround, so I had made some phone calls in an attempt to ascertain the importance of my attendance at a Tuesday night meeting back home. I was in the middle of bidding for both Monday and Tuesday nights but when I got up to a total of $330+ for both nights, I decided to take another stab at finding out about the Tuesday night meeting. Because, if I payed for two nights and then later it turned out I needed to be back home, then I'd be out the payment for Tuesday night at the hotel. So here's how it went down, I decided to go with the name your own price, as by the time I figured out what to do, the deal I found on Express Deals was no longer available, well that's the way it goes, you snooze you lose. For 5-14 to 5-16 (two nights) Bid $120 4* Beverly Hills - West Hollywood rejected Bid $130 4* Beverly Hills - West Hollywood and added Culver City rejected I was about to go up to $140 by adding Inglewood, but then I thought I'd just try again to get more info on the meeting, as the expense was going up. I found out I probably needed to go to the meeting, and so I changed my dates to: 5-14 to 5-15 (one night only) Bid $140 4* Beverly Hills - West Hollywood and added Culver City The total with taxes and fees is around $170. Bid accepted, it is the Beverly Hilton, I hope the place is OK, they'll probably get me for another $25 on parking, right? Goodness when did life get so expensive? ? ? :o
