  1. I started by bidding $50 for a 3.5 star hotel in the "Downtown" region. This was rejected, and they suggested going up to $63. I then bid $53, added "Madison South," and kept it at 3.5 stars. Rejected; suggestion of $63. I then bid $54 and added "Madison Southwest" and kept it at 3.5 stars. I won the Hilton! Also notable: when I searched for hotels for these dates on Priceline, selecting 3.5 star hotels, the Sheraton (an extremely regular Priceline NYOP hotel) didn't show up as having rooms available. At the same time that I bid, I checked Hotwire and believed the 3.5 Star Downtown hotel to be the Hilton, based on other posts in this forum. The price was listed at $65/night, and the amenities were: Indoor Pool(s), Airport Shuttle, Smoke Free Rooms, Fitness Center, Pool(s), Restaurant(s), Business Center, High-Speed Internet Access, Golf Nearby Ratings: 95% like, 4.5 for everything: (overall sat, condition, quality of service, room comfort, room cleanliness, location) - these could change over time. So, I saved $$ by going with Priceline instead of Hotwire. For 3 nights-total costs: $232.85 - 194.76 = $38.09 savings with Priceline! I also booked a stay with similar techniques/results that I will put in another post.
  2. I started by bidding $40 for a 3.5 star hotel in the "Downtown" region. This was rejected, and they suggested going up to $49. I then bid $43, added "Madison South," and kept it at 3.5 stars. I won the Sheraton. At the same time, I checked Hotwire and believed the 3.5 Star Downtown hotel to be the Sheraton, based on other posts in this forum. The price was listed at $51/night, and the amenities were: Free Parking, Free Internet, Indoor Pool(s), Smoke Free Rooms, Fitness Center, Pool(s), Restaurant(s), Business Center, High Speed Internet Access Ratings: 95% like, 4.5 for "overall sat, condition, quality of service, room comfort, room cleanliness". And a 4.0 for "location of hotel" - these could change over time. So, I saved $$ by going with Priceline instead of Hotwire. For 4 nights-total costs: $243.62 - 206.36 = $37.26 savings with Priceline! I also booked a stay with similar techniques/results that I put in another priceline hotel post.
  3. Any help you can give identifying this hotel would be greatly appreciated. 3.5 Star - $63/night - "State Capitol - Univ. Area - Central Madison" 12/28 - 1/5/13 Amenities: Indoor Pool, Airport Shuttle, Smoke Free Rooms, Fitness Center, Pool(s), Restaurant(s), Business Center, High-Speed Internet Access, Golf Nearby Thank you!
  4. Price dropped from $53 to $51 after I checked it a bunch... Smoke-free FItness Center Pool Restaurant Business Centre High Speed Internet 95% of Hotwire customers recommend It is the Hilton! Right now I believe the other hotel with the same amenities and a 90% rating is the Sheraton...hope this helps!
  5. So, I ended up getting the hotel I wanted for the dates I wanted, and I learned a few things in the process that I thought I would share... -After doing the same hotel search, (City, dates) everyday for around a week, the price dropped by $2/night ($53 to $51) -Having a friend in a different state do the same search resulted in them seeing a price that was $4/night ($55) more than the price I was seeing for the same hotel/area -Using the 3G network on my iphone and NOT allowing them to "use my current location" resulted in a different price ($55/night) -Using the 3G network on my iphone and ALLOWING them "use my current location" resulted in yet another price ($54/night) -Using Firefox also resulted in $55/night at the same time Safari was offering ($51) Conclusion: By doing the same search over and over, you could possibly drive the price down Also, I saw someone else post a purchase recently for a 3.5* hotel in Madison, WI for the night of 12/2 and they said it was the Sheraton. Soon after that post, I did the search myself and saw the hotel being offered for that night had a 90% recommendation. I made the assumption that the Sheraton had 90% and the Hilton was 95%...and then I waited until the 95% hotel showed up for my dates...then I booked, and it WAS the Hilton.... I think right now it is pretty safe to assume that these ratings are accurate...if you see the 90%, you are getting the Sheraton, 95% the Hilton...
  6. Hey everyone, Any help IDing this Madison 3.5* hotel would be amazing! Amenities: Smoke Free Rooms, Fitness Center, Pool, Restaurant, Business Center, Hi-Speed Internet, 95% recommended, $53/night Based on the amenities list, I know that it is NOT the Concourse because it doesn't have a shuttle. That leaves the Sheraton or the Hilton. The dates I would like to stay are 12/27 - 1/1 (5 nights). I thought I would play with my dates a bit to see if I could get the hotel "recommended" rating to change...it did...to 90% when I changed my dates to 12/27-12/30. Clearly either the Sheraton, or the Hilton has 95%, and the other one has 90%... Based on historical wins, some people have mentioned the Sheraton having a 90% rating, or have mentioned that the Hilton is rated higher in general. What does this mean for Hotwire? Is it safe to assume that the 95% hotel is indeed the Hilton? I would greatly prefer this hotel. Also, how does a long (5 night) stay, or a stay over prime dates such as NYE affect which property you get? Thanks!!!
