  1. My last bid was $90. I saw prices went up slightly on hotwire so I don't want to wait, our trip is 3 weeks away and if for some reason rooms filled up I'd be stuck paying higher prices. I already note that prices are slightly higher than other weeks judging from the prices I saw on the calendar. I planned to increase by $5 until I got it. My criteria was 5* in South Strip. I started with $95. In hindsight with 11 re-bid zones I should have started lower but since $90 was refused a few days ago I started with $95. $95 - received counter offer for $125. I knew I was close as I've read before when people get the counter offer they end up getting it in between the last bid & the counter. added Freemont zone and bid $100. - rejected added another rebid zone and bid $105 - accepted Aria. This is exactly what I wanted (Aria or Vdara). It's in a great location and it's new. I used the PRICELINE link here and I want to thank everyone here for the outstanding help. You guys are brilliant with the re-bid zones and when everyone shares their wins everyone wins!
  2. I read the re-bid zones and I didn't realize that one could verify the zones that do not contain 5* hotels. That is very cool as I am always worried about getting accepted in an area I don't really want. I started at $75 and went by $5 up to $90 and all were refused. Now I have to talk to the mrs. to see what she wants to do. I don't mind a 4* in fact that would be fine, as long as it's not Westin. We may chance it and try 4*. We have 3 weeks.. I'm not sure if prices typically go down or up. I know it depends on their inventory.
  3. Ok so 4* south is out due to westin. I'm not wild about wynn because it's too far north. Really the 5* hotels in south strip are centrally located and if you think I could get them for $89-$95 that would be great. How should I proceed?
  4. just found the calendar feature on the board, that is an awesome feature. Here's what I found: TI $100 Wynn $170 Tropicana $35 (below our 4* minimum but just for reference) Vdara $125 $98 Aria $117 $155 $81 My concern with 4* is getting the Westin.
  5. I'd like to get some help with the bidding as I haven't done this in many years (previous did it here with great help!). yes I will use the links! I haven't been to Vegas in probably 8 years so I don't know many of the new hotels. I think a 4* would be fine for us but if we can get a 5* for a little more then that would be even better. I compiled a list of the latest prices and it seems a 4* goes for around $50-$90. 5* prices vary more but I've seen the low end with Vdara & Aria around $80. These are for various dates. I then checked Hotwire for our specific dates and I see 5* south which should be aria or vdara for $126, the Trump for $137, 4* south for $111 and 4* north for $144. So this tells me the prices for our dates are a bit on the high end (I know priceline can be cheaper than hotwire though). Can someone recommend a bidding strategy? I am reluctant to use "rebid zones" out of fear of accidently getting into a hotel in an area we don't want. I think we have time before our trip. Please let me know what you suggest. PS: We would love Mandalay Bay for the pool but I know there is no way to guarantee that. However if there is a way to bid 4* and increase our chances for getting Mandalay (like using the amenities / descriptions) then I'd be willing to try it. Thanks
  6. I'm in a similar situation looking for the week prior. I do not want a 5* in the south strip because it includes hotels that aren't on the strip. So I get the part about starting at $100 and slowly increasing for 5* north strip. What about the 4* south strip? Where should I start bidding for those? Anything 4* in south or north would be fine.
  7. I won this hotel on a $70 bid with priceline. I immediately came here and then was a bit afraid of what I was going to get. I was pleasantly surprised. Many reviews here are from the best western period or the renovation period. The hotel is much better now. The hotel is very pretty and I have very few complaints. The first is the parking is no longer included, and it's $15/day. A bit steep in my opinion but it's always like that with downtown hotels. Speaking of downtown, if you really don't need to be close to downtown then I would skip it for a comfort inn or something similar outside of downtown. The location isn't in the middle of downtown, it's on the southern edge and there isn't much within a short walking distance. The free breakfast buffet is no longer included either. We bought yogurts and bananas for breakfast. The room was beautiful. Internet access was free and great. The staff was extremely friendly, almost to the point of being annoying (ok I'm exaggerating). This was the most friendly staff I've ever seen. Everyone greeted us. The parking is very accessible and safe. Easy to bring our bags in from the parking. Our room was on the street level and it was quiet for us (4th floor), we didn't hear the traffic. The hotel is very close to the freeway which makes it easy to get to the hotel. Overall we had a great stay. If I couldn't get it with priceline I wouldn't pay full price, I'd go for a comfort inn nearby. Unless you need to be close to downtown. -- if anyone has any questions let me know.
  8. Looks like a new hotel for the priceline list. Not sure what to expect, reviews are mostly positive at TripAdvisor but it recently changed from Best Western to Crowne Plaza. Anyone know if we'll get the same free buffet breakfast & parking that everyone else gets? Not sure if they charge you extra if you book through priceline. See trip advisor review here: http://charlotte-hotels.tripadvisor.com/Ho...h_Carolina.html I'll post a review after our stay. I bid up to $70 for Charlotte 2.5* South Hampton but it was rejected. Downtown was my 2nd choice. Choicehotels' Quality Inn are about $62 minimum for Charlotte, so $70 for crowne plaza seems like a good deal to me.
  9. Bidding 3* Raleigh ($40, $45, $50 using two rebid zones), all rejected. I'm not picking, looking for something better than the comfort inn which is about $55. I like to keep options open so I think I'll stop here and just find a hotel when I arrive (no reservations)
  10. I bid up to $40 for Williamsburg 2* but rejected. I was going for 3* but that didn't work. Checking choice hotels' website, they have quality inn and comfort inn for $54 so I'm not going to bid much more than $40, I prefer just to book direct with hotel so my plans are more flexible. Will update if I bid more.
  11. I finally got a hotel. I was desperate so I started bidding 2.5 star in dupont and then georgetown. I was going to work my way down and keep increasing. Well I got the Georgetown University Hotel for $110/night. After I read the trip advisor reviews I about died. It's 2 miles from the metro! The little write-up on DC zones by travelguy is accurate. But then I read a tripadvisor review that said there is a free shuttle to the metro, and another said there is one to downtown. So if that's true all won't be lost. Thanks michigan guy for your help. Can you please update the subject?
  12. We're willing to stay in the outlying areas but not in an area that's dangerous. We've looked in nearby cities but when I check some of the tripadvisor ratings people mention the front desk being behind bullet proof glass, etc. We're seriously considering just skipping Washington DC altogether. I've never had this happen before, usually the plane ticket is harder to get than the hotel.
  13. I think the cherry blossom festival is messing me up. It ends the 15th and we arrive the 16th. I think if I split my bid, maybe 16 & 17 we could pay a higher price and then get a better deal for the other days. It's just a pain changing because we won't have a car and with the baby and the fact that checkout is usually at 11am and checkin after 2pm, etc...
  14. $120 rejected 3* Dupont $130 rejected 3* Dupont + Downtown $140 rejected 3* Dupont + Downtown + Capital Hill I'm going to stop bidding (it's addictive). Will try again tomorrow, probably 4* up to $200 and then 3* up to $200.
  15. Downtown rejected at $160 (same procedure as before). Capital Hill rejected at $175. I think I give up on 4*.
  16. Maybe I should repeat the procedure with the downtown area as my primary area. We could always take the metro to restaurants in Dupont/Georgetown.
  17. Following the strategy in this thread (). BTW, I've usedthis site and priceline for several trips and this is the first time I really truly understand the power of adding rebidding zones. This is brilliant. Ok, here is what I've done. All access to priceline via savingsbarn.com (click priceline hotels) April 16 - 22 (6 nights) Select 4* Dupont Circle... bid $80 added Alexandria - Old Town Area bid $90 close browser select 4* Dupont Circle + Arlington bid $100 added Alexandria - Old Town Area bid $110 close browser select 4* Dupont Circle + Crystal City bid $120 added Alexandria - Old Town Area bid $130 close browser select 4* Dupont Circle + Springfield bid $140 added Alexandria - Old Town Area bid $150 close browser select 4* Dupont Circle + Arlington + Crystal City bid $160 added Alexandria - Old Town Area bid $170 close browser Now I'm rethinking my strategy because $170 is the upper end of our budget. I could go a bit higher, but I'd prefer to have a 3* $100 room instead of a 4* $200 room. My criteria is to be near the metro, we have a 1.5 year old. I need a strategy for a 3* hotel. I've checked Quickbook & easyclicktravel (through the links here) and Quickbook has nothing and EasyClickTravel is like $254/night. I just added Carlyle Suites as a backup, but it is on request so I'm not sure I'll get it. I can cancel if I find something via priceline.
  18. I was pricelining, going from $60 up to $110 but it didn't work. So I got it on hotwire. It was $109 last night but it went up so I bought it tonight for $116. You never know, it could have went down. Kind of like gambling. It was the only hotel for Strip North. I wouldn't have minded any of the hotels on the hotwire list 4* north, they're all very nice. We wanted aladdin for the soaking tub and central location. It's easy to guess properties from the hotel list using the amenities. And don't forget everyone, use the SavingsBarn.com website!
  19. They went up! I bid $100 then $105 with priceline. Got fed up and bought it with Hotwire for $116 (it was $109 last night). I was right, it's Alladin. Thanks! Michael
  20. Forgot, I'm still on the savingsbarn.com! Don't forget everyone, use savingsbarn, even if it's just to click on their PRICELINE link. Help support this board!
  21. Bid $95, warned it has a small chance. Rejected. Bid $105, warned too small, Rejected. EasyClickTravel shows $130 for 3*, which is a good deal. I will bid $110 tomorrow, maybe $115 max and then go with easyclicktravel. Several hotels in the area are sold out. Many people suggest staying at Williams or Flag, it's definitely cheaper, but Tuyasan is just minutes from the park. I think it's worth the extra $ to try and make it for sunrise & sunsets. -Michael
  22. Easyclicktravel shows $76 for a 3*, must be the same hotel. Direct rate with marriot is $89. Bid $65 rejected, counter of +$17 given Bid $70 ACCEPTED!!! This is the second time for this trip that priceline has countered +$17 and I raise $5 and get it. So I recommend that appraoch. It is the courtyard marriot! And Yes I did use the big SavingsBarn.com!! -Michael PS: this hotel isn't listed in the PL list for AZ so you can add it.
  23. Bid $130 for 5* rejected Bid $85 for 4* rejected Later tried: Bid $140 5* rejected Bid $95 4* rejected I think hotline has a better deal. I'm not sure where you got EasyClickTravel, they're over $200/night. No good deals there. I'm wondering if I should relax and wait, or go ahead and buy from Hotwire? Do prices usually go up with one week left or go down? -Michael
  24. Sorry, knew I was forgetting something! 05/15 - 05/18 (3 nights) and I used savingsbarn.com! :)
  25. Trying again: Bid 4* Strip $75: Rejected. Countered with $127 which is the price they show for Aladdin. At this point I'm confident I'll get the Aladdin if I keep raising my bid. I'm not desperate, I think Aladdin is. So I will bid $80 & $85 tomorrow. -Michael
