  1. Did exactly that! Thanks so much for the excellent advice, as always.
  2. There is a HUGE convention in town, that is actually why we are going. The rates for the convention hotels are high too. Any idea what this place is? Thanks.
  3. For June 29-July 4th, 2005 we are looking for a downtown hotel near the Skydome. Hotwire has a 3* with Restaurant, Pool, Fitness Center, High-speed Internet Access, golf nearby and tennis nearby. No similar listing on the list - Any ideas what this hotel is? Thanks.
  4. I'd love one! Thanks so much for all the help ...
  5. The Copthorne Tara is available at Londontown.com for 105 pounds. If I could get the first 2 nights for 50lbs each then my average price per night would be 70ish pounds a night. The Dolphin Square Hotel is booked for the 28th and 29th (nice website though!) The Hilton is available, I am going to get on Trip Advisor now and check it out, thanks for the suggestion. Edit- Well I just did, not good reviews and a ways out of city center...
  6. Ok - uncle already! I've tried bidding twice more since last I posted - up to 105 for 5* and 95 for 4* and have been rejected. Looking on Expedia, etc. it definitely looks like Saturday night is the problem. Before I bite the bullet and book at a higher price I'd like to give it one last shot. We don't particularly want to change hotels - too much time lost and, obviously, inconvenient. What do you think f just bidding on the 27th and 28th then calling whatever hotel I get and booking the 29th. I guess there is a small chance of them being completely booked that night but it seems like a better shot than a separate priceline bid for the 29th. Any thoughts?
  7. Good Morning Well, I tried...to no avail. Got on Savings Barn and tried as outlined for me above (thanks thereuare!). Since we are awfully close to our travel dates I think it has more to do with low bids than rooms being released. Will wait the mandatory 72 hours and try again I guess, maybe increasing bids by $10 or 15. Any further thoughts on the matter would be appreciated.
  8. I think I would stick with the zones in the order I originally bid. For a 5 star I'd be willing to go up to 85 but would be nearly as happy with a 4* at 75 or less. Thanks for your input! Shaya
  9. I don't care which zone the hotel is in so much as being centrally located and near the tube. I would like to stick to my budget of $75 Are 4* in the zones you mentioned not as nice as 4* elsewhere?
  10. Hello- I have tried bidding once on Priceline for a room in London from 11/27-11/30. I first tried Mayfair-Soho 5* at 65 added Bloomsbury-Marble at 70 added Westminister at 75 added 4* at 60 added Kensington at 65 All rejected. I am looking for a room for no more than $75 a night. We will be tourists and would like a centrally located hotel, hopefully 4*. I saw several successful bids for the Copthorne Tara but it wasn't offered to me. I can bid again tomorrow- any advice would be appreciated.
  11. What dates were your reservations? Please post what you think of this hotel- I am going nuts trying to find one for our visit in September!
  12. That WAS good timing! Glad you made it. How long was the power out there? I bet checking in was fun... I have decided to up my bids significantly. For a 5* I'll bid t0 $150 and for a 4* to $125. There just aren't any cheaper deals to be had on Expedia, hotwire or quickbook. What do you know of the Helmsley hotels - I have seen declining reviews on trip advisor. They and the Mayflower on the Park had some less expensive rates... Thanks, Shaya
  13. Bidded on 4* in ME. MW, CPS and MS (up to $105) without success.
  14. Hi Guys- Just repeated my 5* bids, going up to $120 without success. Grrrr... :)
  15. Just tried the above strategy without success. Am willing to try again in 72 hours but do you think $105 is too low? Thanks again!
  16. (Thanks Welldone!) I have tried twice since my last post to get a 5* for September 18-21, bidding up to $130 without success. I know I need to move on to 4* but am at a loss as to which zone would offer the best hotels. We are basically playing tourist. Plan on seeing a show, sightseeing, museums, some shopping, etc. Any suggestions on what zone to start with? I'd be willing to bid up to $105 I think, probably will start at $80...sound reasonable?
  17. Thanks for the info. I have tried twice since my last post to get a 5* for September 18-21, bidding up to $130 without success. 18. Thanks so much for your responses! Yes, I think understand what you are saying about going through all the rebids with the 5*s first. And, if I understand correctly, starting an entirely new bid with 4* would extend the possibilities for me if my max 5* bid is rejected. I am willing to pay up to $120 max for a 5 star. My gut says we'd probably be just as happy in a 4* (which I am guessing I should be able to get for $100 or less). It must be my competitive spirit that makes me want to get a 5* room ;-) Welldone Rumproast's post certainly shed some light on why things are so tight. Unfortunately, we've already gotten our time off and train tickets. Now, please tell, how can I get 7 re-bids??? Thanks again.
  19. Hello- First time using these boards. I have tried three times (with 72 hour waits between!) to find a 4 or 5* hotel in Manhattan for 9/18-9/21. My last session went as follows: MTE / 5*/ $100 - rejected MTE / 4 or 5*/$90 - rejected MTE,MTW / 4 or 5*/$98 - rejected MTE,MTW,UWS/4 or 5*/$105 - rejected So either NYC is very full that weekend or I am still bidding too low (I was hopeful after seeing the Waldorf Towers for $105!http://www.betterbidding.com/style_images/1/icon1.gif). Any free re-bid suggestions? Also, have heard great things about the Jolly Madison in MTS but am scared to bid 3* since I don't know what else I may end up with! Any thoughts? Thanks!
