  4. Started bidding at $40, increasing to $42 using free re-bid zones. Reviews are good at tripadvisor. Major problem is that the hotel is a few miles from historic downtown. But no problem as I'll have a car. Free parking. Stayed at many Courtyards before, so I'm pretty happy with my winning bid. 5. Started bidding at $40, increasing to $43 using free re-bid zones. Reviews are good at tripadvisor. Major problem is that the hotel is a few miles from historic downtown. But no problem as I'll have a car. Free parking. Stayed at many Courtyards before, so I'm pretty happy with my winning bid. 2.5* Courtyard By Marriott Savannah Check-In Date: Wed, Sep 14, 2005 Check-Out Date: Thu, Sep 15, 2005 Your Offer Price: $43.00 Number of Rooms: 1 Number of Nights: 1 Subtotal: $43.00 Taxes & Service Fees: $12.77 Total Charges: $55.77
  6. Was looking for a 3* hotel near the themeparks, 3 nights 9/12/05 to 9/15/05. Four free rebid zones meant many attempts possible each 72 hour period. Started bidding at $34 going all the way up to $50 without success. Price after taxes would have been $59. Decided to stop there as there are many decent hotels in that area for that price range. You gain the benefits of direct bookings which in my opinion outweighs the marginal savings. Posting this for members who may share similar thoughts. I'm a big Marriott chain fan (platinum member) and you can get the Fairfield Inn for $69 after taxes. Excellent reviews at tripadvisor. As there are 4 of us travelling, decided to go for the guaranteed 2 double bed suites at Springhill Suites for $79 after taxes. Even better reviews at tripadvisor. And yes, I did make my reservation via the Betterbidding support page to support this friendly forum.
  7. I was looking for a room in the city from 9/1/05 to 9/5/05. Realistically, there's nothing cheap on Manhattan, so I decided to go for Jersey City. Only one zone for quick access into the city and that is Jersey City. Strategy was to make a 3* bid, then if unsuccessful increasing bid and lowering quality to 2.5*. 3* likely to be Hyatt/Doubletree, 2.5* to be Courtyard. All very good value hotels, good reviews on tripadvisor, slight inconvenience in terms of travel time, but potentially big savings through Priceline. Been trying for the past few weeks for these dates at $40, $45. After lock out then $50, $55.... up to $90. No success for the four nights requested. Price jump noticed on Expedia for Saturday night, so decided to split dates. Same strategy, separate bids for 2 nights at a time. Quick success for first two nights. First bid 3* at $55 failed. Follow up bid 2.5* at $60 was successful with a Priceline 'upgrade' to 3* Hyatt. Best price now is $165 off Expedia, 64% savings. Extremely happy with result. 3* Hyatt Regency Jersey City On The Hudson Check-In Date: Thu, Sep 1, 2005 Check-Out Date: Sat, Sep 3, 2005 Your Offer Price: $60.00 Number of Rooms: 1 Number of Nights: 2 Subtotal: $120.00 Taxes & Service Fees: $25.48 Total Charges: $145.48 No success so far on the next two nights sought, 9/3/05 to 9/5/05. Even tried splitting to single nights without any lucks. Bidding to date up to $90 for 2.5*. I have a backup reservation at the Courtyard Jersey City for those two nights. Will keep trying and post if successful.
  8. My previous bid before winning was $78, 3* 4 zones (Downtown, Copley, WTC and Cambridge). Then I kept the zones, raise bid by $2 and dropped to 2.5*.
  9. Boston is notorious for expensive room rates and I've been trying to get a "cheap" hotel for many weeks already off Priceline. Wanted a hotel close to the city centre so stuck to 4 zones. Downtown, Copley, WTC and Cambridge. Many many bidding combinations possible so I tried many different bids each 72 hour period. Didn't mind either a 2.5* or 3* hotel, so for each zone, I bid for 3* first. Then lowered to 2.5* and increased by bid slightly. Bidding ranging from $50 to $75. As hotels may become availabile anytime at any price, I stuck to the same bid prices after each lockout. Got a bit desperate today, so I raised my bid levels but sticking to the same strategy. Final winning bid was $80, 2.5* 4 zones (Downtown, Copley, WTC and Cambridge). Happy to be 'upgraded' to a 3* hotel in Cambrdge. Anyway, bottom line is that at this time, the cheapest 3* hotel you're going to get of Priceline in Central Boston during that period in my opinion is $80. Currently, room rate is $237. Great savings of 66% coupled with good reviews on tripadvisor. Would have liked to pay less, but I'm pretty happy with the overall result. 3* Marriott Cambridge Check-In Date: Tue, Sep 6, 2005 Check-Out Date: Fri, Sep 9, 2005 Your Offer Price: $80.00 Number of Rooms: 1 Number of Nights: 3 Subtotal: $240.00 Taxes & Service Fees: $40.52 Total Charges: $280.52
  10. Wanted a 3* hotel in South Beach. Two free re-bid zones = 4 bids per 72 hour period. Started bidding at $32, $35, $37 then $40 (WON). Currently, room rate is $139. Awesome savings of 71%, more when you consider free parking. Mixed reviews on tripadvisor, so not expecting much in terms of service. Should have a decent clean room which is all I need. 3* Holiday Inn South Beach Resort Check-In Date: Sun, Sep 18, 2005 Check-Out Date: Tue, Sep 20, 2005 Your Offer Price: $40.00 Number of Rooms: 1 Number of Nights: 2 Subtotal: $80.00 Taxes & Service Fees: $18.51 Total Charges: $98.51
  11. Wanted a 3* hotel in Niagara Falls, NY. Two free re-bid zones - East Niagara Falls and South Buffalo = 4 bids per 72 hour period. Started bidding at $30, 33, 35, 38. After lockout, continued at $40, $43, $45 (WON). Based on history of wins, I figured it would either be the Holiday Inn Select Niagara Falls or Four Points Sheraton Niagara Falls. Mixed reviews on tripadvisor, so not expecting much in terms of service. Hoping for a clean room. Made reservation a week ago and is currently showing no availability at this hotel. However, you can get a night at the Holiday Inn for $87.20. Savings of 50%, can't complain. 3* Four Points Sheraton Niagara Falls Check-In Date: Mon, Sep 5, 2005 Check-Out Date: Tue, Sep 6, 2005 Niagara Falls, NY 114 Buffalo Avenue Niagara Falls, New York 14303 Your Offer Price: $45.00 Number of Rooms: 1 Number of Nights: 1 Subtotal: $45.00 Taxes & Service Fees: $13.37 Total Charges: $58.37
  12. No. I do not recall how much I had bid. I think $47 was my first try because I did not expect to get anything below $50.
  13. Hi. I'm looking for a hotel in New York City too but for 9/1 to 9/5. If you're willing to compromise a bit on location, there are 3* hotels in Jersey City worth considering. Based on posts of previous wins in that location, the 3* hotels are Hyatt Regency and Doubletree Club. You can catch the PATH train into the city. Slight inconvenience, but substantial savings. I visit Manhattan all the time and I can tell you that transport will not be a problem. Winning bids seen from $70 around that time. I started bidding at $40 (no harm as it's still early) but failed. There are winning bids from $40 onwards but they are for off-peak non-summer times. Will keep increasing bid and post final winning bid here. Reviews of these hotels on the internet are good, particularly the Hyatt. Winning bids for 3* hotels in the city around this time is well over $120. Factor in taxes and charges, I'll be saving over $60 a night (maybe more if I'm lucky). Other things to consider is that for the same star rating, Priceline rooms in the city are generally smaller, older and come with poorer service. Just my 2 cents.
  14. Stayed here for several weekends in May/June 05. The hotel is located just off Highway 401, about half an hour drive to CN Tower in Toronto. It's adjacent to a Residence Inn, and down the street from the Mississauga Radisson. The surrounding area is extremely quiet, in a large business park area (many corporate headquarters type offices in the vicinity). Even after the regular work week begins, it is still fairly quiet, never a lot of traffic in the area. You need a car if you're staying here as there's almost nothing within walking distance. With a car, it's much cheaper to stay outside downtown and drive in. Free parking in hotel, no traffic and cheap parking into the city on weekends. The Courtyard and Residence Inn are side-by-side. Both hotels are very clean and new, about a year old. Courtyard is your typical hotel room whereas in the Residence Inn, you get a studio type suite with kitchen facilities and a couch seating area. The Courtyard has six floors, The Residence Inn has 3 floors. Both have very easy access to the elevators from the parking lot through the back doors. There's your typical restaurant in the lobby where breakfast is served, but I didn't use it. My room had one king bed and is what you can typically expect from a hotel under the Marriott chain. Professional service, no mention about Priceline use at all. A friend joined me for one weekend and I had no problem requested a room with 2 double beds instead of just one king sized bed. You get free breakfast at the Residence Inn (continental fare) but not at Courtyard. Other positives. Free parking. Barbeque area. Basketball halfcourt area. Excellent staff. Indoor pool and jacuzzi (although I didn't use them). Free high speed internet in room. Very cozy business area that shared a glass fireplace with a nice little lounge area. Small bar area in the lobby (again, I didn't use it). Quiet. TV has LOTS of channels, including the US network affiliates from Buffalo and quite a few US and Canadian cable channels. Laundry facilities. This place is great value for a 2.5* hotel. Would definitely stay there again.
  15. Posting previous wins and hotel review for community benefit. My work took me to the upstate New York area in May/June 05 and I decided to cross the border during the weekends for mini-breaks. You really need a car if you want to see the different areas of Toronto. And with a car, it's much cheaper to stay outside downtown and drive in. Free parking in hotels, no traffic and cheap parking into the city on weekends. Based on winning bids and reviews of Priceline hotels available, I was aiming for the Marriott brand hotels in Mississauga. Bidding strategy was to start bidding at $25 gradually increasing bids by $1 and adding zones. At these rates, I was reasonably confident I would end up in that area. Very happy with results, as follows: $25 - 5/20 to 5/22 (Courtyard by Marriott) $28 - 6/3 to 6/5 (Residence Inn by Marriott) $26 - 6/10 to 6/12 (Courtyard by Marriott) $25 - 6/17 to 6/19 (Courtyard by Marriott) The Courtyard and Residence Inn are side-by-side. Both hotels are very clean and new, about a year old. Courtyard is your typical hotel room whereas in the Residence Inn, you get a studio type suite with kitchen facilities and a couch seating area.
  16. Already had 2 nights at 3* Radisson Laval. Decided to extend trip by 2 nights and hoping to extend stay in this hotel. Based on history of winning bids in Montreal, this hotel is the cheapest 3*. Started bidding at $36 and surprised to win at first attempt. Very happy with results. 3* Radisson Hotel Laval Check-In Date: Sat, Jul 2, 2005 Check-Out Date: Mon, Jul 4, 2005 2900 Boulevard Le Carrefour Laval, Quebec H7T 2K9 450-682-9000 Your Offer Price: $36.00 (US dollars) Number of Rooms: 1 Number of Nights: 2 Subtotal: $72.00 (US dollars) Taxes & Service Fees: $16.16 (US dollars) Total Charges: $88.16 (US dollars)
  17. Montreal Day public holiday on 7/1, so I knew prices would be higher than usual. Started bidding at $40 gradually raising bid and adding zones. Pretty happy to get this hotel. Decent reviews on the internet. 3* Radisson Hotel Laval Check-In Date: Thu, Jun 30, 2005 Check-Out Date: Sat, Jul 2, 2005 2900 Boulevard Le Carrefour Laval, Quebec H7T 2K9 450-682-9000 Your Offer Price: $47.00 (US dollars) Number of Rooms: 1 Number of Nights: 2 Subtotal: $94.00 (US dollars) Taxes & Service Fees: $19.39 (US dollars) Total Charges: $113.39 (US dollars)
  18. Decided to take an extra day off during my holiday to Montreal to visit Quebec City. Just needed a cheap room to rest my head between driving from NY to Quebec City. Hotel reviews on the internet suggests a clean room with free internet access. Bidding strategy. Started bidding at $30 for a 2* hotel gradually increasing bid by $1 and adding more zones. Based on history of winning bids posted, I'd eventually end up with either the Comfort Inn in Dorval or Laval. Pretty happy with outcome. Check-In Date: Wed, Jun 29, 2005 Check-Out Date: Thu, Jun 30, 2005 Dorval Airport Area 340 Av Michel Jasmin (Off Cote De Liesse) Dorval, Quebec H9P 1C1 514-636-3391 Your Offer Price: $34.00 (US dollars) Number of Rooms: 1 Number of Nights: 1 Subtotal: $34.00 (US dollars) Taxes & Service Fees: $11.19 (US dollars) Total Charges: $45.19 (US dollars)
  19. I will be in Montreal at that time and have managed to secure accommodation in Laval for $36 a night. Significant savings if you're willing to live outside downtown. Usual pros and cons of renting a car. Will be posting details of my winning bids now.

  22. Started bidding at $50 gradually increasing to $67. Very pleased with the outcome as half the price listed at other websites. From the hotel reviews, I'm expecting a standard room at a great location. Will post my own review once I get back from the trip. Sheraton At Fishermans Wharf Check-In Date: Wednesday, March 30, 2005 Check-Out Date: Saturday, April 2, 2005 San Francisco, Fisherman's Wharf 2500 Mason Street San Francisco, California 94133 415-362-5500 Your Offer Price: $67.00 Number of Rooms: 1 Number of Nights: 3 Subtotal: $201.00 Taxes & Service Fees: $35.52 Total Charges: $236.52
  23. Started bidding at $55, using free re-bids at $60, $65 and $68. Priceline made a counter offer for an additional $17 when my bid was $60 which I ignored thankfully. I've been trying for a 3* hotel in Waikiki South for the past 2 months, with bids starting $50 to $65. Decided to up bid to $68 after seeing a recent accepted bid posted here. Pretty pleased with the outcome. From the hotel reviews, I'm expecting a basic room at a great location. Will post my own review once I get back from the trip. Radisson Hotel Waikiki Prince Kuhio Waikiki South 2500 Kuhio Avenue Honolulu, Hawaii 96815 Check-In Date: Wed, Mar 23, 2005 Check-Out Date: Tue, Mar 29, 2005 Your Offer Price: $68.00 Number of Rooms: 1 Number of Nights: 6 Subtotal: $408.00 Taxes & Service Fees: $61.65 Total Charges: $469.65
  24. I have just returned from a 6 night stay at the Radisson Waikiki Prince Kuhio won through Priceline at $68 a night. I had no hiccups during check-in and was given a room with a king-sized bed. The quality of the room and furnishings exceeded my expectations for the price paid. My fiancee and I had no problems with noise, smell, cleanliness or service. We parked the car at the hotel garage for $10 a night and always found a spot. You save a lot of hassle doing so (in-out privileges) and it will make the holiday much more enjoyable. However, spaces were small and could potentially cause problems if you had a large car, SUV or van. The location is great and there's plenty of restaurants around. I found this quaint Korean BBQ corner store called "Me BBQ" particularly good value situated 3 blocks away west on Kuhio Avenue. The beach is only 2 short blocks away and Waikiki attractions are within walking distance. There is a useful ABC convenience store across the next by the bus stop which I used to buy drinking water and misc stuff. Other attractions on the island are easily accessible by bus. The concierge has a local map with directions to all of the island's major attractions from the hotel by bus. However, I would recommend getting a car for part of your stay as it is much more convenient to get around and saving half the travel time making the same journey by bus. Using travelzoo.com, I rented a car from nearby Budget at $18 a day. Total for 6 nights with taxes and fees came to $470. Having travelled extensively over the past 3 years, I think this hotel represents excellent value, perfect for a hassle free holiday. Would definitely stay here again in the future.
  25. I have just returned from a 3 night stay at the SF Sheration FW won through Priceline at $67 a night. I had no hiccups during check-in and was given a room with a double-sized beds. The quality of the room and furnishings exceeded my expectations for the price paid. My fiancee and I had no problems with noise, smell, cleanliness or service. We didn't mind sharing a double bed because the beds were very comfortable. The only problem I had which is typical for San Francisco is with parking. Parking at the hotel is $32 a night which I wasn't willing to pay. A cheaper option I found was to park at parking lot across the hotel on Beach Street for $20. There is an Enterprise Rent a Car office at that parking lot, you can see the sign. You get to leave the car there for 24 hours even though the parking receipt says "up till 0:00 AM". However, there is no in-out privileges. The cheapest way I found has to park on the streets outside the hotel. Meters operate from 7AM to 7PM. Easy to find spaces at night. You'd have to wake up at 7AM to feed the meter, or better yet, move the car to the aforementioned parking lot on Beach Street. On weekdays, if you park your car at that lot before 9AM, it's only $7 till midnight. Then move your car back onto the street for free. Don't forget to wake up at 7AM. The location is great and there's plenty of restaurants around. You can walk all the way to Chinatown and Union Square. Alternatively, catch the famous trolleys from the nearby station. Total for 3 nights with taxes and fees came to $236. Having travelled extensively over the past 3 years, I think this hotel represents excellent value, perfect for a hassle free holiday. Would definitely stay here again in the future.
