This was my first bid for this zone combined with a couple others... I was hoping for a Courtyard or Welsley Inn.

Thanks for posting this thereuare, I had rocky road on a sugar cone .... awesome!!! :)
I recently won a standard at HNL for $24 .... and was upgraded to a convertible once there. They first tried to charge me $10 for an upgrade than tried $5 ... I declined ... and it turned out, they had no standards and upgraded me for free anyway.
I found that upgrade rates were very reasonable on all three islands I visited.
Just found this... unfortunately, you have to enter the promo code at the very last step with your credit card info, so, I can not test it to see if it works!!!
If you are planning a summer trip and need a hotel room, here's a deal. Get $25 off at Hotwire with code HOTUW5CGC1 (5/15). Hotwire
EDIT by thereuare: that code is from 2001
I also noticed that there was a box for promotional codes, so i did a quick search and found that "giftcard03" gives $10 off per night (for first time hotwire customers - max 5 nights)
Whoa.... with all the pros on this board, how did we all miss this...
Photobean, thanks, you have uncovered some potential spectacular savings for all of us!!!
I mentioned my honeymoon at check-in ... and they upgraded me to a full oceanview. Very nice hotel, prime location, beachfront ... totally exceeded my expectations. I'll definitely post a review.
I actually got lucky at all 3 of my stays ... and got full ocean-view upgrades at the Radisson in Kauai and the Renaissance in Waikiki.
Can anyone come up with a logical explanation for why Priceline would be jacking up the price of this room on their packages' feature?
I have seen this a few times... as recently as yesterday...
Packages for San Diego-Del Mar listed the Hilton as the cheapest suggesting their $32 rate and we ended up having to bid up to $53 for the Doubletree .... in this case, it was most likely because we were bidding for two rooms (although, my package search was for 2 rooms).
In the past, the Hilton Phoenix Mesa showed a very high rate on packages while I was able to win it for a much lower $32.
New York .... On Vacations, Grand Hyatt listed much cheaper than the Waldorf ... ended up with the Waldorf.
Previous examples aside, Vacations has still proven very very useful ... such as: Vacations Packages
A friend won this a few weeks ago...
He wanted the Laguna Cliffs Marriott Resort but was rejected at $50.
He was also rejected for Disneyland area hotels.
Prior to this win at $41, he was rejected at $38 for Costa Mesa.
http://marriott.com/property/propertypage....arshaCode=SNADP
A friend of mine won this... after being rejected at $41 first. Reviews are pretty poor ... but, he's happy with the deal.
My friend just won this.... with my help over the phone!
First tried downtown up to $55 for a 3*
Than Del Mar which failed at $32,
We tried Mission Valley 3* up to $45 returned to Del Mar and at 3* $45, we got a counter to add $13... tried $50 and than won at $53.
PL Vacations showed the Hilton Del Mar available as the cheapest so, we were surprised not to get the $32 deal that has been going around!!!
Free parking and decent reviews!!

I had great luck with cars....
HNL... booked a standard and at check-in, I was asked to upgrade ... I said "no" ... given a convertible <<< awesome!!
KOA... booked a compact ... they once again said 'you want an upgrade' ... I asked if they actually had compacts ... they said "plenty" ... I said "no" .... turns out, they had none and I got a free upgrade to a premium.
LIH... booked a compact ... I didn't play there game and declined upgrades ... turns out, they had tons all beat up and crappy ... so, I talked to the manager and said we're honeymooners (as Scorp had suggested) and she gave us a Jeep for $7 extra per day.
It all worked out great!!!
I booked a ton of rooms here for a wedding in 2002 and stayed here myself for 8 nights. Here's a couple extra features...
Great hotel... very friendly staff and the bellman were hilarious.
As mentioned, free net access in rooms plus, hotel had a business center with free internet and printing.
Most of their rooms have heated bathroom floors :) ... the first and only time I have ever experienced this.
Huge fitness facilities and they have both indoor and outdoor pools!!!
Having bid this recently, I tried to actually get the Marriott Resort for nights not available through the package listing and did not win .... so, I think in this case, Packages tells the tale accurately. However, I have seen also vacation listings change from one day to the next so, I would try for the Hyatt ASAP.
I took a chance last month trying to get 8 rooms on Hotwire... and indeed, got them on two tries.
The best thing you can do is narrow down the odds against you with a little research... Determine the hotel, their size, how frequently do they offer rooms on Hotwire/Priceline ... and also, call up the hotel and say you need to do a large group booking and specifically how many rooms are they showing available ... often, they may say their wide open etc (best time to call is evening so, you are just dealing with someone at the front desk and don't have to get transfered to a manager)...
Also, I'd book it as quick as possible...
Well, Betterbidding.com, we now have something more in common, we share anniversary dates... year 2 for betterbidding and year 0 for me!!!
Cheers to all of us and many many more safe travels!!!
Thanks thereuare for brings us all together!!!
I do not quite understand how I can leverage the info on PL Vacations to my advantage. It will not let me put in that I am flying in from Phoenix, naturally, but then if it's a total of $400 per person from Seattle (for example), how do I know how much the room alone might go for? I am going down on points. Perhaps I just use PL Vacations to look for availability during my dates and then use this BB to search for probably prices?
PL Vacations shows you...
which hotels are available ...
their relative price...
which is the cheapest offering in each zone ... which helps you avoid pest hotels
and by using a dummy airport, you can also search airfare prices to aprox calculate the hotel price...
Take a hotel that comes up where you actually know the price based on board history and predict the others
It is also sometimes deceiving because some hotels never show up on Vacations...
Here is an example that you should actually act on right away
if you would consider staying in Fountain Hills!!!
LAX to PHX ... 2 rooms, 5 nights
Mar 31 - April 5
Homestead ($224) is the cheapest ... and just by already knowing they go for $25 - $28 in PHX ... I can calculate other hotel prices easier
An amazing deal has now popped up...
the second lowest price hotel today is ($239)...
Courtyard By Marriott Scottsdale/Mayo Clinic
13444 East Shea Boulevard
Scottsdale, Arizona 85259
http://marriott.com/property/propertypage/PHXMY
So, $239-$224=$15*2 people per room = $30 divided by 5 nights ... equals $6
So if the Homestead usually goes for $25 .... you can get this Courtyard for around $31..
I say bid 2.5* Fountain Hills $25 and if it fails,
add Mesa and rebid $27 ... if it fails ...
add Tempe and rebid $30
I have already searched using 2 rooms so, I know they have 2 rooms available!!!
My prediction is $27 takes it!!!!!! ... this is a steal
