  1. I booked this for my parents a couple years ago (about $40 on Priceline)...they said it was a solid 3 star, they specifically asked for a microwave and fridge and recieved it without a problem. They only complained about the parking charge ..... other hotels in the circle do not charge ... however, it is a bit of a walk. Check here for propper reviews... http://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowUserReviews...California.html
  2. trust me, I am considering it .... especially after those two winning posts for New Years at the Jersey City Hyatt for $37 ... that is the steal of the year by far!!!
  3. Just checked, their website has a AAA rate of $204 also. Tough to accept the first time Priceline did not help me at all :) . Still a great track record 99.98 percent!!! I should have dropped to 2 star and gone for the Murray Hill Suites in MTS instead... might have come in in the low/mid $100's ... I saw it on PL/Hotwire packages as the lowest priced option. Hotwire had the 4.5* Omni Berkshire (MTE) for about $240 .... but this was over their $200 limit. The friends refused Lower Manhattan or Jersey where the real deals/savings can be!!!
  4. I just helped a friend get this over the phone... WE tried 4* MTW/MTE/MTS/UM-CP up to $200... tried 2.5* MTE/MTW up to $170... tried 3* MTW/MTE/MTS/UM-CP up to $180 before hitting at $200 Worked out to about $268 with taxes ... cheapest I found this elsewhere was Travelocity for $204 with breakfast so PL was NOT a winner for us on this one. http://www.parksouthhotel.com/as_frames.htm hotel gets decent reviews on http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g6...y_New_York.html
  5. I stayed here twice last year... their rooms/suites are massive. Each has a queen bed, seperate pull-out sofa bed and a small kitchen. The first room I stayed in was a little hard on the eyes ... green green and more green everywhere ... while the second, was a more tolerable blue. The lobby is tiny and the hotel itself is more like an apartment building. They do have a doorman ... I don't understand why ... but they do? It is a great place if you are more than two ... otherwise, I would go for something more New Yorkish. The hotel is also away from the trendy areas ... some reviews complained of the area being a little "rough" ... however, I found it to be OK.
  6. Priceline can not be at fault here because they do not share with the hotel your credit card information. Instead, they issue one of those one-time use MasterCard numbers to be billed after you complete the stay. As others have suggested, you must have given your CC at check-in which is almost always asked for.
  7. Well, congrats on the baby... I think this reason is one of a kind... and you should definitely give it a shot. They will probably ask you to call in to speak to a travel services rep ... who deal with more difficult situations. It seems from my dealings with them that they do have a heart on occassion and I wish you the best.
  8. There's to times to be thrifty and times not .... Slimsurgery, you may have to cough it up ... and I don't mean the strip-view ... I say look up hot-air balloon flights etc (cost me $300 and worth every cent) .... OR, As thereuare suggested ... find something/somewhere else tres cool and memorable around the strip. You'd have better luck it seems getting the Stratosphere hotel's roller coaster operator to pause at the top for you to propose than getting the upgrade at the Venetion. If you like the flight idea, the best way to get up there cheap is to call flight schools ... they offer reduced rates for going up with a student trying to clock their hours. Our upgrade tricks seem to work at the smaller 140 room outfits. Sorry for not coming up with any other solutions for you.
  9. You must have not used the "99999" for the zip code (the link provided has all the detailed info). I have been successful with countless Canadian Mastercards....
  10. I know I suggested the manager first ... however, I now think you should try a regular front desk clerk first and that way, if your first shot fails, you can also try the night shift, than finally a manager. The key is to get one of them to actually plug in a upgraded room number right from now. Also, you could even say you girlfriend made the reservation on her credit card and you need an upgrade because you are proposing. Whatever you feel most comfortable with...
  11. Wow ... congrats!!! I say you call the hotel/front desk manager directly to tell him your plan (mention your present reservation) ... and ask him if there is a special room that would be suitable for your occasion ... or just say you want to propose in the hot tub. That probably has your highest chance of working. Otherwise, the Venetion is just too massive to rely on the other tricks or even a $20 tip. Pretend to be a best friend or a brother and call saying ___ plans to propose ... that way the manager won't ask for more money etc.
  12. Can you believe it's been a whole year thereuare .... once again, have a wonderful birthday tomorrow. Your next birthday, you will be a daddy!!!
  13. Tip??? I never tip!!! ... I try to get by with just the trickery. That was what another board member (BTurner) used to do ... and it worked really well. He usually got upgraded to a suite ... and for a five day stay, the $20 was worth it. There is a past topic on this board about tipping ... and his "20 dollar trick". Sadly, he recently passed away otherwise he was one of the most fequent posters on the board and a pro on the subject.
  14. I am glad travelzoo worked out for you... now, for your upgrade question... The trick I am presently using is to make the reservation under the last name "Honeymoon" and use your last name as the first... Basically, it is than up to the person checking you in or who pre-assigns the rooms to catch the unmistakeable word "honeymoon" ... this will melt them a little and get you upgraded with goodies perhaps before you even arrive. In the past, (this worked almost everytime) I always have my girlfriend stand 20 feet away with the bags and than point her out to the front desk clerk sincerely saying, I really want to surprise her with something super-special ... do you have an "ocean-view" ... with no ocean around for hundreds of miles ... they usually laugh and are inclined to find me something nice. In Niagara Falls, I changed it to jokingly asking for a non-existent "mountain-view" ... and got upgraded to a floor to ceiling window fallswiew room with a hot tub. My final trick when I make reservations for friends is to call the hotel in the middle of the night before they check in and say "Hi there, I am the night auditor at the ____ ____ in ____" (you must specify a hotel and be sure to use a different brand ... also, make sure it is clearly lower in quality than their hotel so they feel superior to you) and that I made a reservation for some close friends using Priceline because there were no employee friends and family rates available... do they have an upgrade available... Having worked as a night auditor myself, we always help our own. BTurner's trick was to slip a $20 bill at check-in and ask for an upgrade... that always worked for him. Otherwise, the standard suite at the Venetian is a massive 650 square feet with a King bed ... An upgrade in your case may end you up in an unwanted "Bella Suite" which has two beds.
  15. Hotwire is listing a 5-star for $157 which is most likely the Venetian ... so, I would bet that you will strike on Priceline between $125 and $135. You have many rebids because no other zones list 5-stars. So, you can also work your way up with $110, $115, $120 etc. You also may want to look at some of the deals listed on www.travelzoo.com ... they have a Venetian suite special listed for certain dates for $125 which includes other freebies. There are also other hotel deals listed too... Just click under the lodging category for Vegas.
  16. When you made the 5-star bid, do you remember the exact amount that they came back with and suggested? We call this a "counter-offer" and it is very useful in knowing how much we should bid next and/or how much is required to win.
  17. Very glad to get this so cheap .... posted rates were outrageous this weekend. I saw this hotel listed using Hotwire packages ($71) and tried to beat it on priceline. I had my friend bid on his account after bidding out on mine. I bid $50 and got a counter for $67 ... tried $55, $58 before striking at $60. Website rate $210 Total was $273.48 http://www.hamptoninntropicana.com/default.asp - free breakfast - free shuttle to the strip and airport
  18. Tried many bids and rebids and finally scored @ $19 for some friends visiting Vegas. Rejected bids were... $20 full, $20 standard, $18 mid, $16 compact, $12 economy, $28 premium, $25 convert
  19. Absolutely oustanding ... and thats an understatement. That will definitely let you walk around my hometown with a bigger smile on your face. God, I miss Toronto!!! Let us know what you choose and how the Quality Hotel was if you end up there.
  20. Your so right ... and here I was actually feeling bad :) that I couldn't score perfectly again. I guess I have gotten my friends too used to me being that Priceline magician ...
  21. For friends... was trying for two nights with no luck so I had to split the dates.... For the second night, tried 3* $55 ... rejected ... raised to $59 for a 2.5* and won. Hotel appears to be a newer condo complex where they rent out certain apartment-style suites (close to Old Montreal). http://www.hotelfaubourg.com/ Montreal 155 Rene Levesque Boulevard East Montreal, Quebec H2X 3Z8 514-448-7100 Your Offer Price: $59.00 (US dollars) Number of Rooms: 2 Number of Nights: 1 Subtotal: $118.00 (US dollars) Taxes & Service Fees: $18.08 (US dollars) Total Charges: $136.08 (US dollars)
  22. For friends... was trying for two nights with no luck so I had to split the dates.... Tried 3*$43, 2.5* $45, $2* $32 1* $30... for both nights rejected ... than $45 for just the 12th and won. Your Offer Price: $45.00 (US dollars) Number of Rooms: 2 Number of Nights: 1 Subtotal: $90.00 (US dollars) Taxes & Service Fees: $15.14 (US dollars) Total Charges: $105.14 (US dollars)
  23. Speaking of the fitness facilities... I had booked the 3* Marriott on Bloor $50 (close to the Quality Hotel) for a friend who was hoping to have a swimming birthday party ... imagine our shock to find out they have no pool .... they offered free access to the Courtyard's facilities which downtown ... is like a time-zone away!!! here is my similarly complaining post: http://www.betterbidding.com/index.php?act...T&f=166&t=4994&
  24. The reviews of this hotel are at least favorable if you end up having to stay here ... I personally stayed at a similar Quality Hotel in Montreal and was pleasantly surprised. Be advised though, Choice hotels in Canada tends to book PL guests into smoking rooms. http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g1...to_Ontario.html
