Good idea - so let me clarify a bit

What we need: Dec 7 - 9 for touristy trips into the city. 2 rooms, for a total of 4 adults and 2 children (12 and 6). Hoping for a 3* in Long Island City near subway. We're driving in and parking. I'd be thrilled to get the Holiday Inn Manhattan View.

We are traveling in 1 vehicle from New England. My preference is a 3* in LI city for a max of $180 a night (not incl parking, taxes etc). If I cannot get into LIC I'd consider Jersey City on Hotwire, but the transportation doesn't appear to be as smooth. Walking 2 blocks to a bus, transfering to PATH train, then more subway transfers in NYC.

I'm very comfortable with MTA, not so much with PATH and NJ busses.

Just to follow up... I've been bidding on PRICELINE for a 3* in Long Island City and I've had no luck bidding from $120 up to $180. Will let people know what we finally win with..

Right - that's why I prefer HOTWIRE. But most of the reviews I've read have mentioned good sized rooms. One of our rooms could have a single king or queen, but the other would need 2 beds.

I love the site - but I'm still not 100% sure how to use it to it's fullest. Here's what we want to do:

Thanks - that looks like a good one, but we may lean toward Long Island City for easier/quicker access to NYC. From what I can see your 2 options are ferry for $9 ea way or bus stop 2 blocks away, 40 minute ride to midtown.

We ended up getting the Courtyard by Marriot at Dupont Circle for $152 a night through PRICELINE. It was very handy to the city, but not worth the money IMO. I posted a lengthy review about it in Tripadvisor: 'Prime location, but not much else.'

3* Crowne Plaza Hotel Niagara Falls, Canada - Zone 1 (Fallsview area)

$90 on Priceline

Decent older hotel with some rooms that view the falls. Connected to the casino and indoor waterpark. According to Priceline this was 20% off the advertised rate. That's OK I guess. I've done better, but it's pretty late - going in 4 days. Easy walk to the falls. Many positive reviews on Trip Advisor. We'll see.
