  1. Started at $85. Last unsuccessful bid $89. Looks like PRICELINE EXPRESS has this hotel for $119.
  2. Lastminutetravel.com has the Hilton Downtown for $182/nite, available.
  3. Why not book The James via Last Minute Travel Club for $148/nite...cancelable up to 3 days before checkin...while you continue to bid on Priceline? If you can't see the Club prices, just call LMT direct and ask for the lower rate for The James.
  4. Just hate it when first bid accepted. Selected Midtown East only, and got the Roosevelt. Originally had Courtyard Midtown East via Lastminutetravel.com, but saved $250+ with this deal. Roosevelt website quoting $290/nite. Used PRICELINE link on BetterBidding website. ETA: Hotel lists show as 3.5*.
  5. Just for security, why not book the Holiday Inn Civic Center...3* on Priceline...on Last Minute Travel Club for $75/nite while you continue bidding on Priceline. LMT reservations are cancellable up to 3 days before checkin
  6. If you're willing to accept any 3* hotel in the downtown area...which you would have to do if you "bid" through Priceline, why not just take the 3* Express Deal in the North Michigan Avenue - River North area for $56/nite?
  7. Omni having a Black Friday/Cyber Monday sale through 11/26 for bookings through 1/31. Booked December Christmas trip to San Francisco. Got a Black Friday deal without leaving the couch. Use promo code CYBER.
  8. You can book a cancelable backup at LMTClub...Hyatt Embarcadero for $185/nite or Omni for $196/nite, and continue your bidding. Either of these are just a few $$$ over your current limit.
  9. As a cancelable backup, I would book the Holiday Inn Golden Gateway for $78/nite on Lastminutetravel.com, via LMT club...cancelable up to 3 days before checkin. It's in a reasonable location right next to the California line cable car terminus, and near some major bus routes, as well as close proximity to restaurants. That way you can keep bidding via Priceline. Good luck.
  10. Looks like I got a free membership to LMT Club, so don't have to call for lower rates. Got the Omni for about $100 less than Omni website for my birthday weekend. Again, will watch how bidding goes over the next few months.
  11. Ess a Bagel doesn/t look too far from the Omni...will check it out next month.
  12. Glen's Diner, steps away from the Brown Line Montrose stop has quite an extensive seafood menu. They always have about 20 choices printed on two walls, and have a special with salad, chowder, choice of fish for around $16. As far as steak goes, there are plenty of great places, and the only time we actually went to one, was Gene and Georgettis. Always busy and great steak and Italian food. Joe's Stone Crab is a great steak and seafood place, but most people don't know they serve some pretty darn good fried chicken. We usually split a salad and get the fried chicken. 4 big pieces...all white meat for an extra $5. We'll be headed to Chicago this Wednesday...looking for the Chicago hot dogs and Italian beef...Al's or Luke's maybe. Also looking for decent...not deep dish...pizza in the little Italy area.
  13. Give Lastminutetravel.com a call. They have a bunch of 4*s in Anaheim for $77/nite, but they ask you to call for a cheaper rate. Also, most of their reservations are cancelable up to 3 days before your stay.
  14. Why not book the Embassy Suites on State Street for $154/nite on Lastminutetravel.com while you continue your bidding? LMT bookings are cancelable up to 3 days before your stay. If you're going to be out and about most of the time, you'll probably just need a place to park your head for a couple of nites.
  15. You should be aware that Priceline will always take less than their counteroffer. With the number of rebid zones in San Diego, you could have up your bid $2 at a time and got it a bit cheaper.
  16. Not sure if this helps, but Lastminutetravel.com has the W Lakeside for your dates for $269/nite, for 2 rooms/5 adults available. Might be even cheaper if you call them. I booked the Sutton Place for $160/nite via their website, and a few days later I called and the rate was $139 for my dates...9/19 - 9/22. If you don't mind taking the L, the Hilton Chicago in the Loop is $195/nite for your dates, also available.
  17. Not a mod here, but a Priceline user. Understanding how to determine rebid zones is essential because they can change at any time. What you do after you are presented with the Priceline screen that shows all the zones, is click on one at a time and record those that don't have 4*....you are looking for a 4*, correct. Any zone that does not have a 4* will have it greyed out, hence a safe rebid zone. Check all the zones and then you are ready to bid. Good luck.
  18. Decided to try a little bidding, and see what happens. Knew Omni was probably out because of price, and the other 4*s would be adequate. Started bidding in Financial District/Embarcadero area at $100 and got counter at $118. Bid $105 and success...got Hyatt. Saving $50/nite over LMT works. Best rate on Hyatt website is $229. Used PRICELINE link on this site. Please put this thread under appropriate heading.
  19. For the OP's dates, on the Lastminutetravel.com website, the second hotel down is a 4.5 Downtown/Union Square/Nob Hill offering for $152/nite. If you click on the pictures, you can clearly see it is the Hyatt. It is listed as "on request", which means LMT will try and negotiate with the hotel to book at the listed price.
  20. Might finally be taking a trip to New York this October, and need to know reasonable areas to stay in. We have two free nights to use at the Omni Berkshire...out of a 4 night stay...and would like to know if that area/zone is central to public transit and tourist destinations. Any others that might be recommended are welcome. We would be flying into Laguardia. Thanks.
